First frothworthy title of 07. Lost Planet. Now, if we want some f13 matches in this shit, I'm all sorts of down. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Velorath on January 08, 2007, 11:44:40 PM I was a little underwhelmed by the demo, but then I haven't tried any multiplayer.
Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: stray on January 09, 2007, 12:02:11 AM This was one of the action titles that made me look at the 360 (besides Gears), but it's only been getting slightly favorable reviews so far. Is this a problem with the XBox crowd, or the game itself? From what I can tell, it seems pretty great. Mechs, a frozen planet, screens full of baddies, giant worms...What's not to like?
Apparently it's real short though. Moreso than Gears. 10 hours. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Morfiend on January 09, 2007, 12:03:41 AM I played both demos. I wasnt impressed with ether one. Graphics are ok, gameplay is ok. Nothing special. I might pick it up if the reviews start coming in really good.

Apparently it's real short though. Moreso than Gears. 10 hours. It just seemed really bland to me. Bland gameplay, bland environments, ugly UI. Hell, even the one mech I got in just felt clunky. I assue the grappling hook is suppose to add to the gameplay somehow, but I'll be damned if I could tell how much use it is from the demo. Maybe the demo just sucked, or maybe multiplayer is where the fun as at. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Velorath on January 09, 2007, 12:17:18 AM Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: schild on January 09, 2007, 12:17:29 AM Dude. omg grappling hook. Hope into multiplayer, and latch onto someone halfway across the screen in a mech and shoot him as you're flying over to him.
Edit: Seriously one of the coolest gameplay mechanics ever. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: stray on January 09, 2007, 12:23:54 AM Sounds....Spider-Man-ish.
Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Velorath on January 09, 2007, 12:24:06 AM Dude. omg grappling hook. Hope into multiplayer, and latch onto someone halfway across the screen in a mech and shoot him as you're flying over to him. Edit: Seriously one of the coolest gameplay mechanics ever. See, that's the kind of stuff I'd be interested in hearing about. If the multiplayer in this game is really good I might pick it up. Otherwise I'll just wait for the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta (oh yeah, and that Crackdown game it comes with...). Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Moaner on January 09, 2007, 01:35:40 AM Dude. omg grappling hook. Hope into multiplayer, and latch onto someone halfway across the screen in a mech and shoot him as you're flying over to him. Edit: Seriously one of the coolest gameplay mechanics ever. That brings back some nice memories of Quake and Thunderwalker CTF. Nothing like firing a rocket down a huge hallway, immediately grappling down the same hallway and smacking yourself in the face with the ass end of the rocket you just fired. Weee! I can't seem to get very excited about Lost Planet though. I still have a bunch of games I should play before I even think about buying anything else. I haven't even finished FFXII yet. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Sky on January 09, 2007, 07:38:39 AM 1. EXTREEEEME
2. Schild approved 3. Grappling hook 4. Short = Oh hell no ;) Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Viin on January 09, 2007, 09:59:50 AM I wasn't impressed with the multiplayer demo. Seemed too unbalanced in the demo, maybe the real thing will be better.
Getting slaughtered by spawn campers != fun gameplay in my book, especially since it's takes 20 mins to get to the next round. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Morfiend on January 09, 2007, 10:25:22 AM Sky you forgot number #5 - Meh Gameplay that we have seen time and time again.

And maybe even sweat beads! Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: murdoc on January 09, 2007, 02:54:33 PM I redownloaded the demo since the first time I found it really meh. Explosions were some of the best rendered that I've ever seen, but it was still pretty meh. I kept wanting to take cover and shoot at the hordes of buggies, but it seemed the cover system wasn't quite working...
Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: schild on January 09, 2007, 02:58:11 PM I seem to remember people here didn't like Dead Rising as much as me.
These responses are not unexpected. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Velorath on January 09, 2007, 06:40:57 PM I seem to remember people here didn't like Dead Rising as much as me. These responses are not unexpected. I love Dead Rising. Still not finding Lost Planet fun. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Yegolev on January 10, 2007, 07:23:20 AM I seem to remember people here didn't like Dead Rising as much as me. These responses are not unexpected. I can try to get some feedback from someone that likes Dead Rising WAY TOO MUCH. Killjoy just got a 360 and he called me three times a day, giggling like a schoolgirl, trying to describe Dead Rising to me. He is thinking of buying a s-video cable for his 360 so he might be able to read the text. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: schild on January 10, 2007, 09:57:31 AM What the hell is Killjoy doing with a 360 if he things like "uses composite cables" describes him.
Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Yegolev on January 10, 2007, 08:38:16 PM Killjoy defies logic, a lot like Kramer with dreadlocks. Using composite cables with a 360 is only the tip of the iceberg. His TV only has the RCA plugs, but it's at least better than the wood-paneled floor model that he used to play WoW. Apparently he found something to convert VGA to RF, like the old consoles, after his monitor blew. He couldn't read my chat and I almost drove two hours to his house so I could kick him in the nuts. So when he tells me he might buy a s-video cable for his 360, I just tell him he's a fucking retard and move on with the topic at hand. Our conversations are easily derailed. My point is that if he likes Lost Planet, there's your... uh, guy who loves Dead Rising that also loves Lost Planet.
He didn't buy the 360, he got it in trade for rebuilding a closet. I'm going to get him to bring it to my house. We could make a TV show out of our lives. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Morfiend on January 11, 2007, 02:42:41 PM Screw Lost Planet,
I want to hear more of this "Killjoy". Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: squirrel on January 12, 2007, 01:16:45 AM I seem to remember people here didn't like Dead Rising as much as me. These responses are not unexpected. I love Dead Rising. Still not finding Lost Planet fun. Kinda agreed with this, although my gaming time is so limited as of late I can't speak with any credibility. I didn't find the MP demo that engaging, but that might be because I'm playing GoW through for the second time and am at the early stages of RB6:LV. And trying to get my boxer to not suck in Fight Night 3. And restarted Oblivion. With about 10 hours a week available for gaming. So ya. But it didn't WOWZOR me. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Ironwood on January 12, 2007, 01:32:00 AM Speaking of wanky marketing speak; The latest advert for this game over here has a big disclaimer on it :
"Graphics Representative of Game." What the Fuck does this mean ? Because the advert looks REAALLLLLLY cool. However, does that mean it's merely representative ? (Ie, there are tanks and blokes and guns, but it's not as nice as this), or that it's representative (This is TAKEN FROM THE GAME BITCHES) or is it representative (When you boot up this game you have to listen to the star spangled banner while it takes ten minutes to load and then you are in control of your very own stickman, fighting in 256 colours). Perhaps Morgan could explain to me. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: schild on January 12, 2007, 01:47:18 AM Much like Dead Rising and RE4, nearly most if not all of Lost Planet is apparently ingame graphics. As such, in the commercials "graphics representative of game." I don't like that the word "are" isn't needed in that sentence, but sounds a whole hell of a lot better. Graphics are representative of game.
Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Ironwood on January 12, 2007, 01:55:44 AM Yeah, which is fine if they're showing you actual cutscenes, but there's no way to tell if what they're actually showing you is a 6 month CGI effort from a seperate design studio. :x
But you take my point and answered my question. I think. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: schild on January 12, 2007, 05:57:54 PM I'm on missions 5 now. Pretty much kicks ass.
Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: schild on January 13, 2007, 04:19:20 AM Beat it. Took pretty much exactly 11 hours. And it was a damn fine way to spend that time. There's more than a handful of fucking great sequences in this game.
Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Morfiend on January 13, 2007, 12:45:18 PM I think I will probably pick this up soon and give it a try. I was not impressed with the demo, but after skimming the strat guide, it looks like there is much more to the game than the demo let on.
Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Yegolev on January 16, 2007, 05:50:41 PM I don't like that the word "are" isn't needed in that sentence, but sounds a whole hell of a lot better. Graphics are representative of game. Once I come to power and implement the New Grammar, you could say that with just "grafics game represent". Yes, there will also be a New Spelling, sans capitalization. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: schild on January 17, 2007, 01:35:38 AM I've been playing this game nonstop when I get home. Non. Stop. I think our toon is level 37 online or so. Seriously - multiplayer is fucking awesome. Only a handful of the maps are really good, but they're REALLY GOOD.

Also, just use a comma whenever you would slightly pause in speaking. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: Signe on January 20, 2007, 09:05:57 AM Why a comma? I hate commas. Can't we just keep our finger on the space button for as long as we're paused?
Like this: I see you shiver in antici pation. or The obfuscated Perl code was designed in an um pretty err spirally pattern. Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: NiX on January 20, 2007, 10:13:49 AM From now on, Signe, we will use your space bar antics.

You can't run, everything is stunning you. Tore my hair out on the first boss, 2nd was doable and the 3rd is the DEVIL INCARNATE. I guess I could look for tips online but this game has actually generated a white hot rage of unquenchable fury in my soul.
Graphics, however, are the shiz and I haven't tried MP. Unless MP hooks me this is getting traded in for CoD3. /Quick plug for UNO on the 360. Very fun to relax and chat and burn two hours of your life before you realize it. :-) Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: schild on January 21, 2007, 10:41:40 AM Odd. We beat the game in one sitting. No boss took more than 2-3 tries...
Title: Re: 1/12/07 - Lost Planet (360) Post by: stray on February 06, 2007, 11:39:20 AM Slightly off topic, but I found this earlier. Lost Planet Budget = 20 million development + 20 million marketing (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4680&Itemid=2)
I love Capcom, and I hope they make it back, but either way, I find that news kind of sad. Is this going to become the norm, especially for "new" IP like this was? Also, port that bitch to the Playstation! |
