My wife and I argued about if she was soing to kill him off in this book or not. My bet was on yes, as it's painfully obvious she hates writing and just wants to enjoy more money than she could burn in her lifetime with an automated money burning robot.

If she kills Potter off, I'm totally convinced some sixteen year old girl will go all Kathy Bates in Misery on her ass.  Which is awesome, so let's hope it happens.

Anyway, actual reason for the necropost is that a release date of 21st July has now been set, and the Book is finished according Rowling interviews all over the damn the place.

Well it's confirmed that 2 characters die.   I'm going with Ron and Snape, as I agree with Eldaec that killing Harry is just lazy.

Any bets on how long before the book (or at least the most spoilerrific excerpt) gets leaked to the Internet, now that it's all done?

Generally, when it goes to the presses, there's a leak in that chain somewhere. I expect 1 month before release.

I'm betting one of them is Dumbledore.

I think the adult cover versions are used only in the UK and maybe Europe, but not in the US.

Those are the US cover and UK adult cover.  There's also a UK kids cover that looks like an explosion of suck.

Yeah, I heard there were different US covers for Terry Pratchett books as well, because the UK ones were too complicated and complicated covers sell less books in the USA. First I laughed because I thought it was a joke, but it seems that it is a widespread practice for international books to have a simpler US cover.

Well, in the case of the Potter books in America, one has a different title and they all have different text with spelling a item names Americanized. I'm trying to remember, but I think the children's edition might have a different slightly larger typeface as well.

I'm looking forward to this book probably more than anything else this summer. A statement that three or four years ago I wouldn't have made before the fateful Christmas season I worked in a B Dalton's Bookstore. I was literally the only employee from the stockboy up to the high management who had not read Harry Potter. I got a lecture about how they weren't children's books and borrowed the first book from a friend.

Damn those things are addicting and I couldn't tell you why. I'm looking forward to the last one.

They sell the adult covers in Canada too, whenever one of the books is released there are always at least six people per subway compartment reading them and they are usually the adult covers.

They should have them in the US.  I might've read them by now if not for those ridiculous covers.

And I know I'm not supposed to do that.

It's easy enough to buy them, then take off the dust jacket.  Hell I do that anyway, because the jacket gets ripped to hell travelling to and from work in my and my wife's bags.

Not my point.  I've bought books, I know the dust jacket comes off.  :-P

Point is that I'm vaguely interested in checking out the series, then I see the cover and it instantly extinguishes any enthusiasm I might've had.

Yah, I'll be gone from the internet a week prior to release and however long it takes me to read the book.  Spoiling this one is going to be a sport for some people.
