Am I the only one that finds the PS3 ads creepy? That one with the crying baby doll gives me the heebie jeebies worse than any horror movie I've seen in the last decade.

I've only seen the ones where the black drips and takes over a white room with different things being shown.  I think it is a subtle but lame attempt to get some synergy from Venom and Spider Man 3.

I had to youtube the one you were talking about, (http://youtube.com/watch?v=gqkNPcUMffU) yeah that's creepy and doesn't make me want to buy anything.  I was sort of hoping for some cooler ads.

Score another point for Sony.

I dunno, they're no creepier than the King (from the BK ads).  Some of those used to creep me the hell out...especially the ones where he'd creep around a corner or be in someone's bed.

What the hell?  I don't get it.  How is creepy baby supposed to make people want to buy a PS3?

I always thought the BK ones were funny.

Also, it was easily made into a game, heh.

The first couple of weeks they started running the hype ads for PS3 I was in downtown Toronto a lot. All I heard on the subway platforms was "Spider man 3? Next month?" No one could tell it was for PS3. Couple weeks later all the ads were replaced with ones that had "PLAYSTATION 3" written all over them. Go Sony.

Current PS3 ads are not about selling PS3s. Marketing knows they'd sell out and be in high demand past christmas. It's all about being edgy right now.

The Wii ads are apparently good, though. My supervisor saw one and wants a Wii now.

In order to overcome my irrational fear of The King, I am actually going to pick up a copy of that Sneak King game for the Xbox.

ETA -- That doesn't, however, hold true for the PS3.  My fear of it is based on the price tag and lack of games, not the ads.

Being compared to the Burger King guy is not favorable at all, and should make Sony execs shit their pants. They make me want to slap art directors and copy writers not buy a PS3.

The King still freaks me out more, but that baby's coming in a close second.  God, I hate the King.  All the creepiness of a clown captured in still-life. And the delicate features (HE HAS WOMEN'S HANDS) that don't match the mask are just unnerving. 

Reminds me of a time I went to the drive through at a local McDonalds and saw a person in a Ronald McDonald outfit waiting in a van in the parking lot.  I havent been back to that McDonalds since.  I drive another couple miles out of my way for my weekly sausage biscuit fix.

Just watched the YouTube crying baby ps3 ad. Seems to me that the point is to be memorable, and get to people talking about it.

Seems it's worked. Here at least.

Maybe it's just me, but if I was Sony, I'd want people talking about how fun it looks, not how creepy the ad is.

I saw that crying baby ad and it just screamed to me that Sony has gone completely off the deep end, and doesn't even remember what fun is supposed to be.

Sony's ads have been degrading for awhile. I think it all started with the original PSP ads. They seemed more keen on selling the media part of the PSP as if they knew there wouldn't be enough games for them to warrant advertising the game part.

Regardless, this thread is all about the "Man, did you see that Sony PS3 ad?" "Yeah, it's like, totally freaky dude." Which is clearly what the aim of the ad is. Product awareness and all that = a win for the ad company.

Not, I also agree this ad is stupid and pointless, but if it were not for the ad creeping people out and causing them to start this thread, I'd never have watched the ad, nor would I be talking about the bloody PS3 right now..

See what I mean?

Sneak King is actually a lot of fun, moreso if you have friends over, and they brought some beer and pot.

I need more friends like that. They all got old and had kids.
