Title: 11/06 Rainbow Six: Vegas

It's out, does it have herpes?

Rainbow Six is UBISoft, in which case, no, it doesn't.

Also, get the 360 version. Ho ho ho.

I'm picking up the 360 version. (Cant believe I just wrote that)

Does co-op mode work for the singleplayer campaign like GoW or is it more like co-op multiplayer vs bots?

I'd have to pick up a 360 to do that, and I like my PC and my wife likes her nice new sony bigscreen. Not going to happen.

So no securerom or evil russian programs?

No, just no.  I've got to admit that Gears of War has tempted me, especially since I've been playing the new Splinter Cell on the 360 and am starting to feel more competent shooting on a console, but even not sucking as bad as I used to the fact remains that shooting doesn't feel good on a console.  Were Splinter Cell a straight up shooter there's no way I'd have touched it on the 360, but as it is I just endure the shooting parts so I can get to the sneaky goodness.

Waiting for the PC version myself.

Though I might pick up one of those $100 360's at Amazon (or try to, rather) for my little brothers, in which case I might get this game to go with it. But seeing as I won't likely get it, they'll have to deal with getting another basketball.

The recent HoMM games use SecuROM so it's likely this one will as well.

Umm, Friday. No really, that's it - don't listen to anyone else. (really at 11am Pacific tomorrow)

Nothing like playing on live with a friend co-op.

Friend: Ok, how we going to do this? I'm hanging outside a window. I can pick off a few.
Me: Hrm..
*crashing noise*
Friend: Did you just... (He was watching my theatrics at this point)
Me: Teehee!

He crashes through a window, backs into a corner with me and we both die to an incendiary grenade. I just can't help but jump through glass ceilings. GOD THIS GAME IS SO GOOD.

Here's a question: Since the single-player game supports more than 2 operatives, can you have more than 2 people playing co-op?

I'm in love with RS:Vegas.  The single player, coop, and versus all are rock solid.  It almost feels like a beefed up console version of CS, but not quite.

If anyone wants to play on XBL add Happy Hedonist to your friends list and send me an invite.

I've actually always preferred R6 multiplayer to CS. It's just that counterstrike was free with HL and HL2, while R6 was not.

R6 has always had superior hit mechanics.

I'm not allowed to buy R6:LV until after Christmas because I made the mistake of putting it on my Xmas list.

They're not from F13. I do have someone with a name close to Morph's, so I mistook him for the asshat. I have little to do these days aside from make sure my school registration goes well, so if you want to play co-op just add me - Nixel

Just bought Gears of War and RS:V today, and holy shit are the controls for Vegas better than GoW.  Much more sensible, much less Quake-like.  I've only played the first level of GoW, but I'm already feeling the buyer's remorse.  Vegas is just that much better a game.  I didn't automatically hate the shooting in it, and the cover scheme is much better done.

Yeah...as much as people have been making of Gears, I personally perfer R6.

Just give it a little time BG. Once you get used to the controls GoW is awesome.

I'll admit GoW is good as a game, but RSV just kills it, in my opinion. I traded in GoW to get RSV and I've already had RSV longer and don't think I'll be trading it in. Ever.

Title: Re: 11/06 Rainbow Six: Vegas
Post by: Moaner on December 08, 2006, 11:56:31 AM
I agree with Nix here.  After playing the single player campaign and some MP in both GoW and RSV I have to say I'm enjoying RSV much more than I did GoW.  Attack and Defend is all love.

I've been super busy with work the last week and haven't had the chance to sit down and play.  I apologize to those who have sent an invite.  If I see you jerks online this Sunday when I can actually play I'll send out some invites for some Terrorist hunt or coop :)

Title: Re: 11/06 Rainbow Six: Vegas

Okay, new question...  Whose dick do I have to suck to create a custom MP character?  Every choice is lit up but "custom character", which is, of course, unselectable.

That's one thing about console games that fills me with pure hatred.  I already bought your fucking game, assholes.  Let me get at the content without performing like a goddamned seal to get at it.

Title: Re: 11/06 Rainbow Six: Vegas

Did you go into Multiplayer mode? Cause, if you didn't, there won't be a customer character to select.

So I have to play a multiplayer game before I can create my custom character from the options screen?  That's the whole purpose of creating a custom character, to take him online.  If that's how they've set it up, it's really counter-intuitive.

Choose Multiplayer, then Xbox Live, and it should prompt you to create a PEC, Persistent Elite Character. Silly name.

Title: Re: 11/06 Rainbow Six: Vegas
Post by: Strazos on December 09, 2006, 01:31:56 PM
Generally, Head Shots warrant the big M.

Title: Re: 11/06 Rainbow Six: Vegas
Post by: NiX on December 09, 2006, 02:59:32 PM
No, headshots don't warrant the big M. Blood does and I'm serious. GRAW is T and this is M. Why? GRAW doesn't have blood. When you headshot (or anything that should cause spatter) there's a "flash" type deal. This game? Full blown blood spatter everywhere. And I love it!

Just got in a few copies of the PC version today.

The system rec's are...steep. Looks like if I ever own this game, it will be on the 360.

Does the highest res mode require a Phys-x card like GRAW did?

Title: Re: 11/06 Rainbow Six: Vegas
Post by: Strazos on December 16, 2006, 10:58:05 AM
I didn't see anything about a physics card in the spec box, but I did see the minimum CPU speed as being 3.5GHZ. Has any other PC game had req's this steep yet? This might very well be the first PC game my rig Could Not Run.

You know what's ridiculous? This game came out on the 360 - 720p native, 1280x720.

The PC version doesn't natively support widescreen resolutions...including 1280x720.

I thought the 360 was really going to help out my niche a lot, since I play games on a 720p monitor, but they can't even support an /option/ on PC that's /native/ on the console. That's a goddamned crime.

Some chap made a hack, I'd assume to a dll (that's how I got Bloodlines working widescreen, my first .dll hack). If some internet tards can hack the dll for widescreen, what the fuck is wrong with developers? Three years ago when I got my hdtv, I could understand, but now that Joe fucking Walmart has a 720p console in his living room, the high-end pcs have to hack the dll to get it? Double-you Tee Eff.

They want you to buy a 360.  This is what MS is up to with their Games for Windows thing, I guess.

Though I did read somewhere that MS was planning on moving the XBox Live online community to PC, so you can play people with folks on either Xbox or PC. Is that still suppose to be coming?

The 'xbox 360 controller for windows' thingy seems to be going that direction. Even supports the headset plug in.

Yes, though it's not so much "moving" Xbox Live as making it accessible from multiple platforms -- i.e. Xbox (of cousre), Windows Vista, Windows Mobile phones, Java-enabled phones, etc..

Edit: BTW it's called "Live Anywhere" if you want to Google about it.

I've never seen a worse performing game on the pc. It just lags my video to hell like nothing else. (And I have a 7950 GX2.)

It is the worst console to PC port ever. Plus the network/multiplayer part is horrid. Takes like 3 tries to connect, then every match that shows open games is full, then you go to play one and the other person's server crashes.

BTW - it also has massive technology so you get to see ads for AXE body spray.

Quote from: Anandtech
Also, because the game doesn't yet officially support SLI, the 7950 GX2 doesn't see the type of performance in this game that it should, and so it was omitted from our tests. We would have very much liked to have seen how quad SLI handled the game, but unfortunately we will have to wait and hope a patch or driver update will allow this.

There's a hack. A guy made up some .bin files for different resolutions. I grabbed it and looked at it here on my mac (in textedit) and can't see what he did. Maybe it's visible on a pc and you could do it yourself. I don't like premade hacks ;)

Instead of storing the resx=1680 resy=1080, someone decided to store them as hex values.

Title: Re: 11/06 Rainbow Six: Vegas

Wonder why that didn't show up in textedit...I don't know why they did that. Goddamned developers. At least the Games for Windows thing includes widescreen support. About fucking time. I could understand the lack in 2003, I was a pretty early adopter. Who isn't buying widescreen monitors these days, the omnipresent Dells if not hdtv? And it's not like it's tough to implement or something, it's a 3d viewport. Bah.

I'm using some shareware thingie that looks just like debug.
