Title: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: SnakeCharmer on November 07, 2006, 05:41:25 PM If you were to buy 3 games for the 360 on your initial purchase, what would you buy?
1) One sports (football, soccer, baseball, whatever) 2) One RPG 3) One anything Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Strazos on November 07, 2006, 05:47:13 PM Does the 360 even HAVE an RPG besides Oblivion out yet?
Sport - NHL 2k7. Hockey is the only sport I really give a shit about. Anything - Hmmm...Are we talking right now, or just "at some point"? Gears of War is not technically out yet, Mass Effect has some time to go, as does R6: Las Vegas...Um, Dead Rising? I should really become better versed in the 360 library. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Zetleft on November 07, 2006, 05:49:27 PM Dead Rising, does Phantasy Star Online even count for an RPG, and since no NFL 2k series ever got released on xbox who cares
Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Yegolev on November 07, 2006, 06:01:30 PM Dead Rising, Gears of War, Saint's Row. You can label those however you like.
Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: schild on November 07, 2006, 06:02:46 PM Dead Rising, Gears of War, Viva Pinata.
Dead Rising is the sports title. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Yegolev on November 07, 2006, 06:05:27 PM Hey, I almost picked Viva Pinata, but then I remembered Saint's Row.

Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Scadente on November 08, 2006, 12:54:10 AM Three games
Sport: Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (aka. Winning Eleven), I'm just remotely interested in football but the GAME is so great. RPG: Wait, some ok'ishly looking RPG's are coming out. Oblivion, but I wouldn't recommend it. Anything: Dead Rising and Ridge Racer 6, great games, kept me glued to the screen for a long time. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: murdoc on November 08, 2006, 07:01:37 AM Sports: NHL07 - The control stick is AWESOME for offense. The rest of the game is meh. NHL2K7 has the better overall package, but NHL07 has a bit better graphics and that control stick, SO GOOD. If NHL2k7 had the control stick it'd be the bestest hockey game EVER. If you're gonna play online, make sure you get 2k7.
RPG: Is there really any other choice other than Oblivion. I've been playing it off and on since I bought my 360. I still enjoy it, but I think that's because I play for hours, then don't touch it for weeks, then go back. Hasn't gotten boring for me yet. Other: The fanboi in me wants to say Gears of War, but since I haven't played that I'll say Dead Rising. I really liked Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, but I think I'm in the minority with that game. GRAW was pretty good too. My initial purchases were GRAW, Oblivion and Call of Duty 2 (which I've already traded in) Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Riggswolfe on November 08, 2006, 07:21:42 AM If you were to buy 3 games for the 360 on your initial purchase, what would you buy? Fight Night Round 3. Hands down the most fun I've had with a sports game.1) One sports (football, soccer, baseball, whatever) Quote 2) One RPG There are only 3 to my knowledge, Oblivion, Enchant Arms and PSU. I'd say Oblivion. That game kept me busy for over a month and if you have a HDTV it is sometimes unbelieavably gorgeous.Quote 3) One anything Hmmm...hard call here. Most of the games in the "other" character my friends and I enjoy aren't really the thing on this forum. (stuff like Dynasty Warriors, we love the mindless coop action). I'd say probably Kameo (for the fun gameplay) or Gears of War. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Sky on November 08, 2006, 07:50:36 AM mindless coop action (http://ci.weston.mo.us/pages/whattodo/red_barn/images/rbf-f.jpg)Has anyone actually played GoW before recommending it? Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Yegolev on November 08, 2006, 08:05:28 AM Has anyone actually played GoW before recommending it? No need. The TV commercial is awesome and IGN says it is the Killer App. It is obviously better than Cats. I'd buy it again and again. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: HaemishM on November 08, 2006, 10:02:10 AM For sports on the 360, remember that the EA sports games that have come out are GIMPED TO FUCK on the 360. FIFA 07 has about 1/4 of the teams, leagues and stadiums as the X-Box version, and Madden 2k7 is supposed to be buggy.
Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Morfiend on November 08, 2006, 10:03:47 AM 1) Sports - Tony Hawk Project 8
2) RPG - Marvel Ultimate Alliance (RPG very lite) or Oblivion 3) Gears of War 4) Other must haves - Saints Row if you like GTA style games this one is a must buy. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Rhonstet on November 08, 2006, 10:12:13 AM I hate sports games. So no advice there. Instead I'd probably recommend a fighting game, like Fight Night or DOA 4. DOA 4 is also a great game if you want to put that HD to the test.
For an RPG, you don't have many choices. I'd probably suggest Oblivion, Dead Rising, or Enchanted Arms. Dead Rising feels like an RPG crossed with Resident Evil. For my 'Anything' pick, Chromehounds or Saint's Row. Chromehounds if you have Live, Saint's Row if you don't. What I would suggest you do before anything else though is to hit XBox Live and start trying demos. A big part of the 360's appeal is the Live demos, those might give you some clues about what you want. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Nekon on November 08, 2006, 10:23:19 AM For the questions about Gears of War, it is indeed all that is awesome. I had no interest in the game originally and decided to give it a shot since i remembered it came out yesterday. I'm a pretty jaded gamer and don't like giving anything praise these days but all i can say is "wow." I played it from start to finish in one sitting and never even thought twice about putting the controller down or doing something else. It has some problems but not enough to outweigh all the awesomeness that is GoW!
edit: This is the first game in years i'll actually play through more then once! Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: murdoc on November 08, 2006, 10:52:52 AM I played it from start to finish in one sitting and never even thought twice about putting the controller down or doing something else. This concerns me. Me too. But considering I suck at aiming with the controller, Im sure it will take me longer than one sitting. Hell, I died 5 or 6 times on the first "Close the multiple Emergance Holes" part. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Sky on November 08, 2006, 12:05:45 PM I'm not holding your hand when it comes to avoiding the sarchasm. OH NOES1!!1(http://www.jenanne.com/mt-static/archives/20050326trainwreck.jpg) Quote I played it from start to finish in one sitting I don't play those games. $60 for one sitting? Does it come with an special ending massage?Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Big Gulp on November 08, 2006, 06:42:54 PM 1) Fight Night Round 3 (As Riggs said, it's the best fighting game I've ever seen. Yeah, I even think it's better than Soul Calibur. They captured boxing perfectly. My buddy and I can't get together without at least once taking part in the great grudge match: Hagler vs. Leonard.)
2) Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (Seriously, the 360 needs some RPG love, and NOT the Japanese pedophile, gay man-boy horseshit coming on the horizon). 3) Dead Rising Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Sky on November 09, 2006, 07:55:48 AM I assume Gulp is not excited about the new RPG: "Nocturnal Assassins: Mighty Bladed Lionheart Attack!"
Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Surlyboi on November 09, 2006, 08:03:35 AM Gears of War
Knights of the Old Republic Gears of War. Yes, there are THAT MANY good games out for the 360. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Morfiend on November 09, 2006, 10:55:11 AM Gears of War Knights of the Old Republic Gears of War. Yes, there are THAT MANY good games out for the 360. Im sorry you dont like awesome games. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Rhonstet on November 09, 2006, 11:18:36 AM Having played Gears of War, I would strongly suggest a rent-before-you-buy approach. The controls are similar to Dead Rising/Saints Row, only with a lot of context-sensitive actions.
A lot of people are going to get pissed at the combination of strange controls and difficulty, and a lot of FPS junkies are going to be pissed because their supposedly 'leet' circle-strafing/bunny-hopping skills are going to get them so very, very owned. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Sky on November 09, 2006, 11:47:41 AM Quote a lot of FPS junkies are going to be pissed because their supposedly 'leet' circle-strafing/bunny-hopping skills are going to get them so very, very owned. RTFM. I hate people who say controls are weird and when you ask them if they looked in the manual they say no.Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Sky on November 10, 2006, 07:21:49 AM That's one of my gripes about the Battlefield series. It's been moving in the direction of circle strafe/jumptard for a while now. In 1942, bunnyhoppers consistently died quickly, unless it was a real high ping situation. In BF2, it was a very mixed bag. Prone/crouch was still pretty good, but so was bunnytarding and dolphin diving. Basically, people are retards who need to find every cheesy game flaw to use to their advantage because they otherwise suck donkey semen.
Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: SnakeCharmer on November 13, 2006, 09:40:39 AM So, I went and bought a 360, and bought 2 games to go with it.
Gears of War = teh awesome. Great, great game. Stunning graphics, awesome soundtrack, really good gameplay in and of itself. Trying NOT to rush through it, but it gets hard sometimes. Much to my wife's chagrin, I could sit and play for hours with the surround sound waking up the neighbors. Tiger Woods '07 = have played it sparingly, but have enjoyed it nonetheless. GoW is taking all my time up. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Morfiend on November 13, 2006, 10:03:47 AM So, I went and bought a 360, and bought 2 games to go with it. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Sky on November 13, 2006, 11:51:12 AM In the new PC Gamer mag, there's a piece on Vista. In the Gaming for Windows pics, there is a shot of the retail stand with Gears of War. PC port? Woot?
So....why the heck would I buy a 360? Fight Night, Dead Rising, Saint's Row, NHL? That's even less than I buy for the pc in a year, and I hardly buy anything. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: NiX on November 13, 2006, 07:22:03 PM PC port? Woot? I don't know. I figured if they did do a PC port of GoW, why wouldn't they make it one of those games that can interact with 360 players? They seem to really want to push this Live anywhere thing and using Gears would of been the best way to get people using it.Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: eldaec on November 14, 2006, 12:55:14 AM PC port? MS have to maintain the illusion that there are things an Xbox can do that a PC can't - I'll be surprised if their marketing people don't warn them off the idea of allowing PC and Xbox users to share a multiplayer game. Plus, isn't GoW basically an FPS? Wouldn't anyone with a mouse just crap all over anyone with an Xbox controller, unless they activate some sort of auto-aim cheat for the console types? Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Trippy on November 14, 2006, 01:00:56 AM Wouldn't anyone with a mouse just crap all over anyone with an Xbox controller, unless they activate some sort of auto-aim cheat for the console types? That's what they are doing for Shadowrun.Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Sky on November 14, 2006, 07:28:31 AM I'm pretty sure GoW would be Live Anywhere. It's one of their flagship titles. They push 4 parts of the initiative: Games for Windows branding (for compatibility, especially the 360 controller on the pc), Live Anywhere, XNA, and something else :) It's kinda funny in the article there is some dev commentary saying pc gamers would basically have an unfair advantage. Should be very interesting.
Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: Big Gulp on November 15, 2006, 05:55:18 AM It's kinda funny in the article there is some dev commentary saying pc gamers would basically have an unfair advantage. Should be very interesting. What's really funny is that I have friends who only know shooters through consoles who claim that they're just as responsive as any PC player. Now granted, I'm absolutely worthless playing a shooter with a console controller (that's why I don't buy those games on a console), but I've seen these guys play stuff like Halo (and unlike me, they're actually good at shooters with a gamepad), and any half-assed PC gamer would just smoke 'em. Someone really good would tear into them like a priest into an altar boy. No matter how often I reiterate this, though, they just won't believe it. For some god-awful, unholy reason they've equated the gamepad as the "proper" controller for shooters rather than the hacked together kludgy abortion that it is. Title: Re: 3 games for the XBox 360 Post by: eldaec on November 16, 2006, 07:26:10 AM On the bright side, playing vs PC players might at least convince console gamers that their systems need a mouse+keyboard; oh, and a high resolution screen (since it is used to watch the action, we could refer to it as a "monitor"); then they'll need enough RAM to support the higher resolutions of course. We could start calling them 'Personal Consoles', or 'PCs' for short, and eventually forget about the whole horrible episode that the spread of gimped computers sold as gaming "konsouls" has been.
