Title: Number of Wii in Target
Post by: Yegolev on November 07, 2006, 08:33:47 AM
Found this on the Q2T forums (http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread.php?t=30590).  Searches by area code '(XXX)' are suggested but any part of the address works if you know it.

http://wickedsick.org/wii_finder/

The one closest to me will have 42, if this can be trusted at all, so my plan to just wander in on Sunday morning seems solid.

It would probably be more intersting to discuss whether this is a load of horseshit rather than another launch-day procurement strategy discussion.

Hmm...81 at a few in my area, with a few other Targets with less. My buddy wants one, so this might be worth a shot.

This one seems a little nicer, has zip code search, and Best Buy inventories as well (albeit unconfirmed, so who knows).

It'll never be enough!

I'm not so desperate for wand on twilight princess action to want to wrestle the throngs of people fighting over those limited stocks.  I'll probably get my Wii in spring.

Or so I keep telling myself.  Sometimes the key to enjoyable gaming is to keep one's expectations down.

120, 120, 69, 69 all within 15 minutes of here. Cool, thanks for the link.

I can confirm that it thinks there is a Best Buy where there is actually what I believe to be an AutoZone.  If they did build a Best Buy over there, I didn't get the flyer.

You can search the other one for zip code as well, but of course there's no map of suspect quality.  I tend to think the BestBuy info is bogus.

That thing is showing 2 Best Buys with in a 3 block radius of my house. I *Know* there are no Best Buys there. WTF is that thing doing.

Got an e-mail from EBgames stating that they'd be doing online pre-orders on Thursday.

Quote
And so here Wii are. Less than two weeks and counting until the most innovative product the video game industry has seen hits the streets.

This Thursday evening (CST), November 9, your opportunity to get in on the excitement arrives when our Wii bundle becomes available for pre-order online at EBgames.com. You'll get the best games, accessories and more in one convenient package delivered right to your door - all for under $699 plus tax and handling!

Quantities are extremely limited and there will be a limit of 1 Wii bundle per household, limited to US delivery only. Ordering a bundle does not guarantee shipment at launch and orders will be shipped on a first-come, first-serve basis. The bundle will be removed from the site as soon as we have reached our expected quota.

Take note of the part I bolded.  Unless they're bundling in a fucking PS3, how they hell do they get a Wii bundle that costs around as much as the 360 bundles did?

Wii system - $250
One extra Wiimote and Wiichuk - $60
Zelda - $40
8 Other Games - $320
$30 worth of other useless Wii accessories

Of course, they could also cut a game out and add in a service plan and shit.

It's video games. It's pretty easy to spend $700 on shit no matter the system.

I just read an IGN hands on with the new Zelda and am desperately trying to pretend I don't want the Wii and am not going to be a Wii60 or whatever that hybrid is.

I wonder if this tool is at all accurate.

Edit: Does anyone know if there is going to be some kind of midnight "launch" at any of these stores? Or do we just camp in the parking lot?

I think Gamespot and Toys R Us are doing midnight launches. I know the EB I preordered it at has no intention of selling it before regular opening time.

Edit: Don't get beat up by the high school kids while camping a parking lot on Saturday night.  Saturday night's for fightin'.

I'm not buying any of these pricey consoles.  I reckon, I'll get them when the prices are reasonable and there's loads of games out for them.   It's the principle of it all.  They're getting outrageous.  It's as bad as razor blades... what the is the deal with razor blade prices?  I could buy diamonds for a fucking years supply of bloody razor blades.  They're made of steel, not gold!  Err... sorry for the mini-rant.  I just shopped.  At least the PS3 is back compatible.  The 360 is only a little bit.  That majorly sucks.  I want to ditch my old console when the new one comes out.  It's like a ritual or something.

The Wii is backwards compatible with GameCube games.

Well, that's something, although I don't have a Game Cube.  It's still awfully pricey, though.  That and the PS3 are already hitting Ebay with just ridiculous prices.  I don't know, it just sort of annoys me.  There was a time I would have bought one of these for my nephew's birthdays or xmas,  but giving a present that expensive would just piss off their parents.

I feel resentful and cranky.

$250 is not that bad these days. Specially considering that when the PS2 launched it was $300 and that was like 5 years ago or so. Also, you have virtual console in the Wii, so you can download tons of NES, Super NES, and other games. I just hope the controller works out, and isnt some gimmick. I plan on hitting up target early in the morning and getting one on release day.

Remember, not all games are going to use the Wiimote. A birdy told me the new Smash Bros. game will use a standard controller.

I'm bigger than kids. It won't be a problem. Really the problem is being my age standing in line with a bunch of 14-year-olds. I can pretend it is for my son or something...

Let's hear it for Cerfew laws!  Were I to do this locally, it'd just be me and whatever 18+ redneck geeks are around here. 90 WIIs just at Target, plus however many at EB, Best Buy, and the 3 Super Wal*Marts 20 mins away from each other tells me I most probably don't need to bother, tho.

Every single website has said that Smash Bros will use the standard controller.

I love standing in line with 14 year olds. And making fun of them. Goddamn I hate teenagers.

Is anyone here even going to attempt to get a PS3?  I haven't heard much about the PS3 and was wondering who was willing to go on a desperate search to pay a whole lot of money for a system that has very little going for it.

I really really want one, but for the wrong reasons I guess.

My PS2 is second hand and first generation, and won't run new games right.  PS3, to me, is a backwards compatible blu-ray player.  Anyone know if you can rent Blu-Ray movies?

I'd buy a 360 first, which should be a no-brainer.  The only holdup there, at this point, is half financial and half backward-compatibility.  ARE YOU LISTENING, ALLARD?!

Another point: there is a ridiculous amount of QUALITY on the PS2 at this moment.  Shiny, new quality at that.  That shit costs, and if someone handed me a PS3 on release day, I'd still be playing FFXII and Digital Devil Saga on it.  So fuck it.

My financial situation in Q406 can be summed up as "tapped out" (truck insurance, homeowner insurance, property taxes, gifts for Christmas, Thanksgiving entertainment, misc home repair), so if I were being the least bit responsible with my cash... I mean, my debt, I would not even be dropping $400 on a Wii setup.  I was never good with money, though.

If I did, it would only be so I could e-bay it to desperate people with too much money who just CAN'T dissapoint their spoiled-ass spawn.

My local Best Buy is only getting 6 (SIX YES SIX) PS3's. There will be some lovely rioting I'm sure. They are also getting a ton of Wii's.

On another note, EB has stopped taking preorders on Zelda for the Wii.

I am hoping Zelda will be in Target or Sam's Club on Day One, but I'm more worried about that than the console.  I'd still characterize that worry as "not much".

You do realize that EBstop has been taking Zelda pre-orders for at least a couple of months now right?

Title: Re: Number of Wii in Target
Post by: Yegolev on November 08, 2006, 01:31:26 PM
I do.  First of all, I don't preorder.  There are various reasons and none of them are very good.  Second, I don't want to give the mogoloids at EBStop any money.

One thing that chafes my rectum is when I go into EB and find out that they only ordered enough copies of a game to cover the preorders (Disgaea 2); even more irritating is when they have disc cases on display which, in most stores, would lead one to believe that they had some for fucking purchase.  If I could buy it from Nintendo directly, I'd do that.  I already buy my Atlus games directly from the online Atlus store, when possible.

I used to get upset about preordering. But now I figure, hell, I KNOW im going to buy a game, why not make sure its waiting for me on release day?

Finally got to play some Wii stuff today, specifically Excitetruck.

It was pretty damn cool. The Wiimote was both smaller and lighter than I had previously imagined. Also, it's VERY sensitive. I was seeing a bit of kick in my cursor before playing when I would pull the B trigger.

I need to get me some Twilight Princess time.

I got to dick around with the Wii also (I like this phrase).

Excite Truck pretty much sucks. It's a shame it's going up against Ridge Racer 7 on day 1.

The controller is actually TOO sensitive and way way way too light. I need to play Red Steel but I very much fear the possibility of it being harder to aim with than a mouse or controller.

In other news, Nintendo knew the controller was hard to aim so they made every button that you aim at super huge. Think of it as Reverse Dead Rising menus (which were too goddamn small and unreadable).

BUT! Component Cables are officially in Gamestop stores at launch (like day 1 launch, not now through Christmas launch). So yea, I might get it still, if only for TC and Zelda.

I figure it will take a year before devs get good at programming for the motion sensor.  Took them long enough with analog sticks.  Also, this "thing" that helps people program for the Wiimote only came out a month ago.  Forget the name, don't feel like looking it up, but ask if you really want me to find it.

The Wiimote IS very sensitive, almost overly so...but I started to get use to it after about 20 minutes on Excite Truck.

On another note, where is the Wii advertising?  I've seen ZERO commercials on TV, and more instances of that disturbing demon baby doll PS3 commercial than I care to remember.

Also there are some pamphlets at Target, where they have an anemic end-cap.

Sony bought an endcap and two feet of shelf at BestBuy only to put cardboard on it.

I dont understand why they are using Excite Truck as their demo game. The game blows, it looks Average, and boring even. I watched my friend play it for about 20 minutes. So far I am not excited about it. The more I see the more it looks to be moving to gimmick and less to gaming revolution. I think things like Wii Sports will be great with it, but I cant see people wanting to get it as their primary system.

I'm glad my sensible side kicked in at the last minute and overcome my fanboyish tendences.  I canceled my Wii pre-order saturday, got my money back, and couldn't be happier with that decision.  If it lives up to the hype I'll buy one early next year.   :-D

I would spend $300 to play the new Zelda.  In fact, I am going to pay $300 to play the new Zelda.  Later, I will cry because I could not hold out and get the green one.  So let it be written....
