Title: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Velorath on October 25, 2006, 08:58:21 PM Well the turtle looks kinda cool at least. (http://entertainment.upperdeck.com/wow/en/news/article.aspx?aid=1243)
Good to see they resisted the temptation to put weapons and armor in as rewards since I have no intention of buying a single pack of cards. Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: caladein on October 25, 2006, 09:28:45 PM The tabard is pretty good looking, reminds me of the Stormpike one, which means I'll be all over it for my Horde characters. The Hippogryph pet is also very nice, hopefully they won't be too difficult to snag.

I don't see the attraction myself, but its your several hundred dollars for a few pre-order boxes. Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Tale on October 29, 2006, 10:43:10 AM Is this a kind of RMT? Blizzard $elling loot to players by card game proxy?
Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Merusk on October 29, 2006, 10:56:13 AM Yes and no.
None of the loot is useful. The turtle mount is as fast as a walking person, the pet is a show-off item like the normal pets and the Ogre suit. Oh my the ogre suit. It'll cost you something like $2-3k in card purchases to get one, unless you compete and earn points through official league matches. OH, Don't forget this. Put naked NE chicks on the cards and we'll talk. So much for rarity. Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Shavnir on October 30, 2006, 01:42:01 AM Quote So much for rarity. But they're selling for a lot. But since some people found some and put them on eBay clearly they aren't rare Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Teleku on October 30, 2006, 02:00:10 AM Quote Put naked NE chicks on the cards and we'll talk. Havent seen the rules yet, so dont know how fun it actually sounds/is. (only CCG I ever played was magic). Not a bad idea overall on blizzards part. Very good that they didnt add in any meaningfull items to the cards. I hope in the Onyxia boosters they have a "Half the fucking guild shows up late: Sit and do nothing for 15 minutes" card. Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Ironwood on October 30, 2006, 02:01:59 AM hehhahhahahh.
Good one. Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Tale on October 30, 2006, 04:27:22 AM Quote So much for rarity. But they're selling for a lot. But since some people found some and put them on eBay clearly they aren't rare There are 126 auctions for the turtle card on eBay alone and most are not asking a lot. I think the one I linked to is unrepresentative of the bidding. Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Shavnir on October 30, 2006, 04:38:44 AM Perhaps, but my point is that despite there being 100+ auctions for it on eBay we have no idea what scale the game was launched at, thus the eBay data proving almost nothing.

Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Righ on October 30, 2006, 09:46:17 AM I don't know the actual rarity of the WoW cards (though I don't doubt that its published somewhere), but with CCGs that are popular, people who trade seriously will buy several hundred boxes (yes, boxes) and open them all, and then sell the rares in each box for the price of the box. The uncommons become profit and the commons filler for bulk sales. In MTG terms, the price on those three rare cards (for an existing set/expansion) is high - reflecting the novelty value of the in-game items and early demand. Similarly, rare cards with distinctly imbalanced mechanics and cards used in popular published 'decks' will have inflated prices. If you have a few grand to float your venture, its pretty easy to make a profit in CCGs - it just takes time and paying attention to the market and its publications.
Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Merusk on October 30, 2006, 10:02:56 AM Everything Righ's said meshes with my own early experience in M:TG back around The Dark/ Fallen Empire days. Hell, I remember saving up precious college funds so I could buy a whole booster box of Fallen Empires (haha jokes on me).
I don't know the actual rarity of the WoW cards (though I don't doubt that its published somewhere), I found a site last night that listed the commonality but no number of cards actually printed at this time. Google warcraft card list if you're interested. As for the game itself, I'm going to go with "it's pretty popular." I stopped in at the comic & card shop up the road from me to see if they had it. (Wanted to buy a starter and see what the rules were like) I got a quick chuckle from the guy at the counter, who asked the guy in the back to explain what was up. A heavy sigh later, and I knew I wasn't the first non-regular to stop in and ask. He explained they hadden't bought any because they didn't think it was going to sell at all, and now their regional supplier is having a hard time getting boxes himself so they won't have any for a while, if at all. Considering there's only 3 comic & card stores that I know of in N. KY, I think that says a lot about its (current) popularity. Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Chenghiz on October 30, 2006, 10:51:52 AM Yeah, I think pretty much the entire print edition was sold in 2 days. If you want to know what the rules are like, the official site has a PDF of the rulebook that's found in the starter set, as well as some demo decks. You can also find a complete list of cards and the contents of each starter deck here (http://wowtcgdb.com/).
Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Furiously on October 30, 2006, 11:43:18 AM You know what would be cool? If they made an online game about the card game....
Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Teleku on October 30, 2006, 05:52:26 PM Then they could pull a final fantasy and combine the online card game with WoW, so that you can run up and challenge people in game to matchs.
The sad part is I think that could actually happen if the game takes off in popularity.... Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Calantus on October 30, 2006, 07:30:12 PM The sadder part is I would so do that.
Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Ironwood on October 31, 2006, 12:20:16 AM So would I. So would a lot of people.
I always wondered why Sabacc and Pazzak weren't implemented in SWG. While I would do that kinda thing 'casually' the wife would have been glued to the screen. Games within games are popular. Look at the poker addon for WoW - It's getting regular play time on my server. Title: Re: In-game items from WoW card game revealed Post by: Teleku on October 31, 2006, 07:01:00 PM Just what I need, the ultra epiced out catass warrior first beating my ass in with his super deck, then promptly oneshotting me with his two hander right after.
Would be kind of funny though. |
