I'm guessing there will be a localization of this game coming, since it's now listed on mmorpg.com. It looks a lot (too much) like PotBS to me. The video shows mostly pvp combat, and very little pve. Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: LC on October 21, 2006, 03:23:36 PM Did Flying Lab out-license their sea portion of the game to these guys? I don't think so. They would be crazy to do that. Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: schild on October 21, 2006, 03:36:21 PM Voyage looks exactly like, get ready for it, Everquest in boats.
Pirates of the Burning Sea looks exactly like... Oh, my bad. They haven't shown a UI in a single screenshot on their site yet (http://www.flyinglab.com/pirates/gallery.php?gal_section=0). You should know better than to drop fanboish shit like that about an MMORPG that's not even in a large beta yet. "They would be crazy to do that." Har. Would they really? Well it would be like shooting themselves in the foot. Assuming they ever plan to release a working game. I haven't even looked at PotBS in at least six months. Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: damijin on October 21, 2006, 04:31:05 PM I tend to agree that they aren't using any PotBS technology, or perhaps, even the other way around. But I doubt it. Voyage has been around for quite some time has it not?
Plus, I remember some dude from PotBS was doing interviews not too long ago about how he'd like to release in Asia with localized territory, boats, and whatnot for Asian piracy. Eh... it seems the similarities are nothing more than coincidence, no? Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: Yegolev on October 21, 2006, 11:52:13 PM I have expected that PotBS UI would be basically a subset of the EVE UI except with woodgrain textures. I also would not be incredibly shocked to hear of a developer that scrapped a game and just sold their software to another company. I would be more shocked to find that Voyage Century was not tripe.
Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: Venkman on October 22, 2006, 05:27:26 AM I wouldn't be surprised if PoTBS wasn't that close to a UI.
And the reason I don't think it'll be much like Eve's (even though the game itself was one of their inspirations) is because the combat is more skill-based than Eve's, which was very much stat based (though there certainly was skill). Plus, PoTBS has a ground game at all. Crafting, trade and resource gathering though, no idea how they'll handle that. Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: JoeTF on October 22, 2006, 08:48:31 AM You can see current PotBS UI on screens from fansites and videos on youtube. It's an absolute trainwreck awful.
On the happy side, they still have whole year to fix it. Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: JoeTF on October 22, 2006, 08:50:37 AM More on topic. It's yet another shitty game whose developers can't afford 50$ to hire some homeless to fix spellings for them.

That's a very large number. Quote Ever heard of a game called Voyage Century Online (http://www.voyagecenturyonline.com/index.php)? It's an MMORPG set in the 16th century that allows users to travel by both land and sea. You play as a pirate and do pirate things, naturally. Partake in activities such as trade, craft, waging wars around the world, and finding some good old buried treasure. Voyage Century Online is still in pre-release development, so alpha testers are needed asap. To sign up, just send an email to voyagecentury@gmail.com. There are only 1,000 slots available for this closed beta, which means you'll need to get a move on. But where is my ninja MMO!? It could be like Ninja Gaiden, but without all of the cursing and breaking of controllers. Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: Soln on December 14, 2006, 06:45:21 AM I'm surprised they don't make you start as a galley slave like in AoC and row yourself to stardom. That would fit the grind.

Video from my second attempt at ship combat. (you need something like CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net) to play this) Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: HaemishM on December 14, 2006, 12:54:14 PM So....New World Exploration-era Diku? Not really, no. I've been playing this a little bit the last week. Maybe it's the genre, but I'm enjoying it. It's a use-based skill system as opposed to a level-based system. I'd liken it more to a bastardized version of Neocron's level system mixed with Eve style navigation/combat. The land combat is very Diku, just without one overall level. There's a not quite rigid class system that isn't explained real well. Ship to ship combat is fun, being (at low levels) mostly about manuevering into getting a decent set of shots as opposed to just banging away. Crafting is very very grindy. There's a good deal of mercantile/trade style of gameplay, with being able to buy goods in one port and sell them in another. Localization is fucking atrocious, though, and is the biggest problem it has. Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: SnakeCharmer on August 13, 2007, 10:37:32 PM Holy necropost Batman!
Anyone playing this? Just downloaded the beta client. Title: Re: Voyage Century Post by: Hoax on August 13, 2007, 10:40:54 PM I've heard very mixed reviews but my lil brother (age 13) didn't like much so I never got around to trying it.
