Title: 10/21/06 -- Golden Fairway (free golf game) PC
Post by: Stephen Zepp on October 21, 2006, 02:52:07 AM
MVP Online (http://www.goldenfairway.com/index.cfm) has just made their online golf game, Golden Fairway (http://www.garagegames.com/mg/snapshot/view.php?qid=1307) available for free download (http://www.garagegames.com/products/110).

FYI, they have a very interesting business model: normal play is always free. You can purchase tokens to participate in online tournaments with real cash prizes, as well as a chance to win $50,000 US.

Golden Fairway was developed using the Torque Game Engine, and the courses are representations of real world golf courses from various locations.

I like the comments asking about alternative OS versions.

So...when is the OSX version coming out? :)

That's up to the developer unfortunately, and I have no idea what their plans are.

I love golf sims and have played nearly all of them at length.  This game is terrible.  Great concept, but everything is lacking.  I lost interest in the first 10 mins but stayed with it for an hour or two.  It never got better.  Since nearly every golf sim has an online mode, I think I'd opt for that instead.

Interesting--while GG had nothing to do whatsoever with the dev of the game, I'd be interested in hearing additional details on what was lacking.

I've been working a ton in the past few days but will try to give you something more concrete when I can.  Sadly, I'll have to reinstall the game first.
