Title: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Xanthippe on October 12, 2006, 01:38:01 PM http://www.gamestop.com/gs/wii/wii_signup.asp (http://www.gamestop.com/gs/wii/wii_signup.asp)
Quote Important Pre-Order Information - U.S. ONLY GameStop and EB Games stores will begin accepting limited pre-orders for the Nintendo Wii console on Friday, October 13, on a first come, first served basis. Due to extremely limited supply, we expect to reach our limit very quickly, most likely in minutes. We will not accept additional pre-orders at that time. To avoid an unnecessary trip we strongly recommend you call your local store to determine availability. A $50 reservation deposit is required, which can be funded with cash, credit or trade. As we cannot control production and shipping issues by the manufacturer, a reservation deposit does not guarantee receipt of a system available to purchase at launch. Reservations/Purchases are limited to 1 per household. Our limited online pre-order program will be announced at a later date, after software and accessory availability details are confirmed. Online product pricing and availability will vary and will be fulfilled independent of store reservations. Call your local store if you're interested. Mine says it's on, and they've received several calls already today. My local store has 32, and the next closest store has 10.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Yegolev on October 12, 2006, 01:58:20 PM I don't plan on giving any money to those fucksticks at EBStop if I can avoid it.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: schild on October 12, 2006, 02:41:21 PM Heh. Every EB and Gamestop is different. All about the employees. My store is getting 16. I've "already got 2 held." We'll see what happens.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Yegolev on October 12, 2006, 03:10:47 PM Last resort. Well, maybe the last last resort is buying one from the Magical Sugarplum EB you shop at, but I don't think it will come to that. We shall see.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: NiX on October 12, 2006, 03:34:44 PM For the few canucks around: Monday is the word on when they start up here. The amount of systems looks weak.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: tazelbain on October 12, 2006, 03:37:43 PM I am not going to buy one until I can get a chance to play with a Wiimote first.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: NiX on October 12, 2006, 06:15:09 PM They were saying Interactives would be in-store before the launch of the Wii, but that it would require a credit card to be played. This may have changed since I've worked there.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: HaemishM on October 13, 2006, 09:48:14 AM Today is a first. I have pre-order a new console system to be purchased at launch. My wife was 7th in line to pre-order a Wii.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: schild on October 13, 2006, 11:00:09 AM Despite being guaranteed four of them from my local GS, which we ended up getting without a problem, I still decided to camp out there at 5:30AM. I suppose it became a ritual years ago. I threw some money down on Twilight Princess and Trauma Center as well.
Putting $50 down on a Wii two days after dropping $100 and change on a PS3 and game reserves feels just goddamn ridiculous. I've come to terms with the cost of the PS3. I'd really like a blu-ray player (and HDDVD player for that matter) since the only tvs we have in the house now are HD. But anyway, yea, done and done. Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Sauced on October 13, 2006, 11:04:09 AM I tried to soften the blow yesterday, warning Voodoo that she's probably going to have to wait a while to play Twilight Princess. I'm just going to have to drive out to the sticks and try and find one in a walmart or something.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: schild on October 13, 2006, 11:07:22 AM Eh? They're shipping a few million. You won't have to drive anywhere (far away). Just go to Target or somewhere equally not shopped at for games like KB Toys.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Fabricated on October 13, 2006, 11:13:29 AM I'm not reserving anything since I imagine the fucking consoles will drop on a day I work or have class. I can wait for a second shipment.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: HaemishM on October 13, 2006, 11:26:51 AM The Wii drops on a Sunday, the PS3 on a Friday. You won't be in class. You know you want one.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Rasix on October 13, 2006, 11:29:07 AM I can wait for the first round of hardware failures and recalls.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Fabricated on October 13, 2006, 11:33:46 AM I can wait for the first round of hardware failures and recalls. That too. I expect the first editon PS3's to do nothing but shoot fire and brimstone from the Blu-Ray slot.Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Sauced on October 13, 2006, 11:34:54 AM Eh? Yeah, I'm already sort of counting on Target. *might be exaggeration. Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Strazos on October 13, 2006, 04:07:36 PM Or maybe not. I wish I had the money to fund such a scheme.

I'm not going to work that Saturday anyhow. (Local tabletop gaming convention.)
So I spend all day playing Federation Commander and Warhammer then jaunt over to Wally Mart with my DS 2 or 3 hours ahead of time. (Con Ends at 8. Bout a 20 minute drive. Figure grab some dinner and get in line around 930-10.) Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Moaner on October 14, 2006, 07:33:57 PM Day shift sucks. I was stuck at work for the ps3 preorder and now the Wii. I'm assuming I'll be able to pick up a Wii at Walmart or something before the end of the year, but I'm not holding my breath for a ps3.

Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Morfiend on October 15, 2006, 12:50:49 PM EBGames is also doing their preorders tomorrow. My local store has 32, and the next closest store has 10. My friend and I went down to my EBGames. We got there about 3 hours before the store was opening. There was already 75+ people waiting in line, with the first 20 or so having camped out. Those fuckers are welcome to the first few consoles. Ill get my some where that doesnt take preorders. Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: NiX on October 16, 2006, 07:18:30 PM Local EB screws over real customers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgsFyJ2FZMM). From what I've from people that work at EB, this list of appointments was filled with friends of staff only.

Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: schild on October 17, 2006, 12:25:15 AM Walmart employees are lazy motherfuckers.
If they're out at midnight in even 20% of the stores I'm nearly willing to shave my balls and let people call me Sally. Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Yegolev on October 17, 2006, 07:12:32 AM In my area, there's a good chance they won't be on the shelf by midnight of the next day.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: OcellotJenkins on October 17, 2006, 07:23:18 AM In case anyone would still like a shot at pre-ordering, apparently Toys-r-us will begin taking them on 10/29. I can't be arsed for a link at the moment but there have been multiple articles on Digg about it.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: Yegolev on October 17, 2006, 08:07:10 AM There are rumors that some retail outlets will have the consoles in their warehouses on 10/29.
Title: Re: Gamestop taking Wii Preorders Friday 10/12 Post by: schild on October 17, 2006, 02:05:19 PM Yep, and those rumors were spurred by the first Wii entry in the Best Buy tracking system. Which is to say, unless there's a sneak launch (which there probably won't be), Nintendo would be dumb as a motherfucker to put Wiis in the hands of teenagers making $7.50/hr.

My local store had the 360, DS, Gamecube, and Xbox all at midnight their first day of release. (Dunno about the PSP but it sucks so who cares?) For some reason I have little fear. And worse comes to worse and I miss out big whoop de doo. My life was not impacted in any way by having to wait a couple months for the 360. Hell, it gave me a better system and Oblivion was out! |
