Title: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Rasix on September 22, 2006, 01:26:53 AM This game is art. Loving every minute of it.
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: schild on September 22, 2006, 01:40:38 AM Yea, I just started the other night. Would've written something about it, but A. Not Far Enough, B. Going to San Diego for 3 days. Bleh. Jew stuff.
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Yegolev on September 22, 2006, 08:06:41 AM Almost bought it last night. Decided to pass and buy out the Atlus online store instead. It's on the list, though.

I know you're probably just going to see relatives and do something at their temple, but I had this funny image from the lost book of Josiah, wherein the chosen people must journey to California in penitence for too much PS2 playing. Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Rasix on September 25, 2006, 02:44:17 PM 8 hours in and just finished the first major dungeon. I love this game. No PS2 owner should be without it. I keep wondering how cool this game might be to play with a Wii-mote.
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Khaldun on September 26, 2006, 07:23:28 PM Easily one of the most beautiful games I've played, console or computer.
It makes me feel very acutely how unfortunate it is that most games more or less have a similar visual aesthetic--this shows how wide the range of visual variation *could* be. The only problem I have with it so far is that the concept of the game sometimes invites spending a lot of time, in the early going, trying to solve puzzles by painting things where the game really doesn't mean you to paint things. In the cave in Hana Valley, I just spend about twenty minutes trying to paint that round thing on the altar before I decided that wasn't what I was meant to do. Then I slashed the wooden gate open, and there we go. But still: an amazing piece of work. Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Fabricated on September 26, 2006, 09:25:25 PM A friend of mine picked up the game when we went and got something to eat a couple days ago. I watched him play it and after getting used to the astoundingly irritating jibberjabber I came to the conclusion it was a really cool game. My friend has almost called in sick to work so he could keep playing, he can't put it down.
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Rasix on September 26, 2006, 10:17:43 PM Yah, the phonetic garble that passes for speaking is annoying for about the first 5-10 minutes you hear it. Then you hardly recognize it at all and then you start to appreciate the nuances between the different characters speaking styles.
At least it's not Sims-Speak. After about the fiftieth "mishuno!" you start walling people in rooms and letting them starve. Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Khaldun on September 27, 2006, 07:21:23 AM The jibber-jabber sounds to me very much like Animal Crossing, actually. Which is less annoying than Simglish, but is still a bit grating.
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: schild on September 27, 2006, 07:33:46 AM The jibber jabber sounded like a speeded up version of Shadow of the Collosus-speak to me. Heh.
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Signe on September 27, 2006, 07:41:58 AM This was one of the games I bought the other day. I haven't started it yet. I seem to be playing a game where Goofy is in my group and it's really pissing me off. Someone at the game shop told me it was free roaming and that's a lie. It's linear as hell. I was looking for something more like Dragon Quest VIII. Anyway, I'm glad to hear Okami isn't a furry game. I was a wee bit worried. Anyone know if Valkyrie Profile 2 is free roaming?
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: schild on September 27, 2006, 07:43:06 AM Valkyrie Profile 1 was...kinda. Don't know if VP2 is. Will know by tomorrow night. If you have a 360, Just Cause is some crazy free-roaming shit that no one seems to like.
But I like it. Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Signe on September 27, 2006, 09:08:38 AM Let me know about the Valkyrie one. I guess the next FF is right around the corner. I didn't play more than a few hours of the last one before my nephew nicked it. I kind of got tired of them all. They're better when they use the more realistic characters. I can't stand the way the cartoony ones stand idle. They look like someone who has that disease that makes you bob around inanely. I don't mind people with the illness but I can't stand the cartoons mocking it.
Ok... I don't know what the hell I'm talking about again. Sorry. Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Signe on October 01, 2006, 10:25:41 AM I picked up the Valkyrie one but haven't started it. I got hooked on Okami. What a fun game!
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: voodoolily on October 01, 2006, 01:24:43 PM Okami is the shizzle. Love it. I especially like feeding all the wee animals.
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Hokers on October 02, 2006, 01:36:50 PM Awsome game, proves that more polygons != better graphics. This game is almost as visually stunning as Oblivion and in such a different way. Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Nija on October 18, 2006, 04:02:46 PM I'm all for bombing Japan again if it'll stop them from making games that require you to hit a single button for 20 fucking minutes before you can actually play it.
HELLO I WANT TO TRY OUT THE GAME THANKS ASSHOLES. Art? I'd like to hit you over the head with Art, Rasix. Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: Rasix on October 18, 2006, 04:08:14 PM Ohh, did I fail to mention the intro is really long and tedius?
And honestly, the game is too long. I haven't said this in a while about a game I've enjoyed this much but Okami is just too goddamned long. It's still pretty, no? Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: schild on October 18, 2006, 04:11:21 PM Clover does not make short games.
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: voodoolily on October 19, 2006, 09:28:26 AM And any more, Clover does not make any games.
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: schild on October 21, 2006, 06:22:27 AM Clover will be resurrected as something else within 4 months.

Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: NiX on January 18, 2007, 08:52:38 AM Can I ask how you found that in the first place?
Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: stray on January 18, 2007, 08:55:20 AM I was looking for a better avatar than this:
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/lonestar627/Games/okami_animation.gif) Since I can't get it to work right on a black background, I Googled for Okami images....Only to find furries. After seeing the furries, it killed my desire to even use the avatar above. :( That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Title: Re: 9/19 - Okami - PS2 Post by: NiX on January 18, 2007, 09:19:08 AM I'll believe you.. for now.
