Title: Octoberfest Post by: Righ on September 11, 2006, 05:46:51 PM The Samuel Adams Octoberfest is even better this year than last year. It has a slightly stronger and more balanced roast which makes for a better top note. Still a caramel malt taste with light hops, a better balance of spices and cereals, and full bodied and refreshing to drink.
Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: stray on September 11, 2006, 05:55:06 PM I have no idea what you just said (I'm a stinkin' wino, not a big beer guy really), but I love this stuff. :)
Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: MrHat on September 11, 2006, 06:42:12 PM Saw it advertised but I had already decided I was dehydrated enough.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll get this next time I go out. Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Merusk on September 11, 2006, 06:55:19 PM Octoberfest is out already? They only just put some Cherry Wheat out at the local Kroger and still have some Summer Ale.
Mmmm Sam Adams. Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Ookii on September 11, 2006, 07:38:20 PM The Samuel Adams Octoberfest is even better this year than last year. Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: MisterNoisy on September 12, 2006, 08:20:57 PM Try Dogfish Head Raison D'Etre if you get the chance - tasty stuff.
Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: UD_Delt on September 13, 2006, 07:34:08 AM Tried Blue Moon's Pumpkin Ale this weekend. That shit was rancid. Then again I've never found a pumpkin ale that I did like.
I also tried the Commodore Perry from Great Lakes: http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/beerProfile.php?beer_id=00000018 Very tasty beer but was difficult to drink more than a few as it was fairly strong. I'm usually not a fan of IPA's but this one was tasty and didn't seem overly bitter. I'll be buying an orange tonight as I think a wedge would compliment the flavor. My analysis: Drinkable. Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Sky on September 18, 2006, 09:43:44 AM I'll check out the Sam's October. Sounds interesting. I also have to check out Saranac's October.
While in Vermont last week I stopped by the Long Trail Brewery, their brewmaster chose my favorite (Hefeweizen) as their summer special limited series. Saranac only sells it in the summer pack (though I should stop over to their brewery to check), so I grabbed a case and also two nice 18oz Hef glasses. I also tried to get a job there, they have an inhouse tech guy and my girlfriend went to high school with their manager :) Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Signe on September 18, 2006, 09:55:07 AM Drink more beer and you'll forget all about having a silly old job.
Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Oban on September 18, 2006, 10:08:11 AM I just found this last week and have had more than my fair share:

No, I'm in agreement with Leary on the cranberry stuff they produce around the holidays. That shit's vile and I'm a guy who likes cranberries. My tastes run against having Shit in my beer. This means almost anything that makes it not taste like beer. There are few exceptions, such as a little lemon in hefeweizen, but even that is completely optional and it's souring a sweet brew rather than turning my booze into candy. I steer away from beer containing fruit, in general. I like apples, for example, but I don't want apple in my beer. Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: WayAbvPar on September 18, 2006, 10:35:08 AM Had a Sam Adam's Octoberfest over the weekend. Very good beer. Since we were men trapped at a baby shower* (and thus bored out of our gourds), my buddies and I experimented with adding fruit to it to try to complement some of the flavors. Orange seems like it would work the best, but oranges are too mildly flavored- they get lost in the beer.
* No less than 4 women in my social circle are pregnant (thankfully my wife is not among them). I declared that I wasn't attending any more baby showers unless all the women were actually showering during the event. Preferably in baby oil. If your wife hears you saying that, I'd say odds are good she won't get pregnant. I think it is a perfectly reasonable request to be made. However, if you actually buy the gallons of baby oil and start constructing the multi-headed showering system that would pump said oil, then you have a recipe for disaster. It might make a fun home project though. Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: voodoolily on September 18, 2006, 11:45:59 AM The only holiday beer I've ever tolerated was Anchor Steam's. It has little hints of juniper and coriander without tasting like a Christmas tree.
The only Oktoberfest beer I need is some Spaten Optimator. Keep it simple, bitches. Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Jimbo on September 18, 2006, 03:31:18 PM It might make a fun home project though. Whoot! Screw the hot tub I'm building that on my deck and enclosing it! I've got some summer brew and light by Sam Adams...man moving to Boston looks pretty darn good to me :-D Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Hokers on September 19, 2006, 06:23:39 AM Octoberfest is out already? Octoberfest is a September festival in Munich to celibrate some obscure wedding from way back. I wish they had the Cherry Wheat in the stores around here, its my favorite flavor. If they wait too much longer I may have to take a trip to Michigan and get the really good local stuff. Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Soln on September 19, 2006, 06:33:11 AM if you want a cherry-like Beer, try the Belgium beer Kriek. Tastes like beer+cough syrup, but hey, there's a niche for everything.

I just didn't realize the brew was out already.. putting the celebration this past weekend together with the brew just didn't click over until the post about it. Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: WayAbvPar on September 20, 2006, 02:07:23 PM Sometimes she laughs her head off. Heh. I have devised a plan for this weekend (going to the Seahawks game). I will purchase and consume a variety of Octoberfest brews before and during the game, and perhaps discuss their merits in this thread next week. If I survive. Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Yegolev on September 20, 2006, 02:19:45 PM If I survive. Are you dressing-out for this one? I will be wearing my trusty Walter Jones jersey, but I am not a face painter or anything. :-D Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Hokers on September 20, 2006, 08:34:18 PM I think the question was if you were going to put on lederhosen. The only reason I can imagine you going to a Seahawks game is because they need an eleventh man.
Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Dren on September 21, 2006, 10:30:17 AM Ok, back to what matters, BEER!
Here is a page that covers many of the seasonal beers that have come out recently. Enjoy. http://www.sicilianosmkt.com/newsbeer.html Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: MrHat on September 21, 2006, 12:00:21 PM Pumpkin Ale intrigues me. I have a 12 pack of Sam Adam's Oktoberfest sitting in my fridge, but I'm sick and can't taste! Title: Re: Octoberfest Post by: Righ on September 21, 2006, 03:08:23 PM I'm sick and can't taste! Turn off Rt 1 onto 193 east and head down the road about 2-2.5 miles. Go to a liquor store called Tick Tock. Open 24 hours. Get the cheapest liquor in the world.
Also, you might get shot and come down with a bad case of {roll 1d6 to decide your venereal disease}. But some things are worth it. |
