Title: Yet more PS3 delays Post by: Riggswolfe on September 06, 2006, 01:57:53 PM http://msnbc.msn.com/id/14695665/ (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/14695665/)
I found this part particularly interesting: Quote Mr Kutaragi admitted that the group's problems with BD laser diodes raise questions about its ability to deliver state-of-the art technology. "The fact that (Sony) cannot do it means they lack some kind of ability," he said. Worryingly for Sony, the questions extend to the Blu-Ray Disc itself, which Sony is promoting as the next generation digital recording format. This guy, Mr Kutaragi is the CEO of the Computer Entertainment side of Sony. Looks like MS may win this round of console wars by default at this rate, especially if the Wii is priced at $320 like some rumors suggested. If that is so then I'll be one of those Wii60 folks or whatever the nickname is. Haem is right. For some reason, when it was announced that the Wii would be less than - what - 299 euros, at least one of the raging yellow journalists that "run" a Wii fansite posted that the new price was going to be $320 in NA based on currency conversion. This, despite two well-known facts: Nintendo has repeatedly said that the Wii will be less than $250 in NA, and Europe always takes it in the ass when it comes to gaming. Also, since most of the sites just steal information from other sites, it spread around a lot. There are basically only a few places from which I can get reliable info: IGN because they are the 800-pound gorilla, Cubed3 because those guys seem to have some contacts and get interviews from time to time, print mags Nintendo Dream and such, and Jeux France even though my French is beyond rusty. You still need to really sift out the bullshit, too; for example, it turns out that the Wii controller glove doohickey is real (I'm still suspicious) but I have a hard time believeing something like "Super Mario will run at an unseen 1500FPS, while retaining an over-the-top performance." Likewise, there's no way in holy hell that the Wii will retail for over $300 in NA. Of course, nobody knows nothing for now. |
