Title: It's a girl!
Post by: Ironwood on August 11, 2006, 02:32:32 PM
I can beat you all.  It's my 5th wedding anniversary today and my wife got induced.  I should have a son or daughter by this time tomorrow, all going well.

Cool man.  Get some sleep during the process if you can. My wife was induced and it still took 14 hours. Since she was induced at about 6:00 p.m. it made for a long night.  If they let you do it, cut the chord as its a cool thing to do. You won't believe how much the next 24 hours will change your life.

Wow congrats to you too Ironwood.

I was going to say to Merusk that anniversaries seem like the only truly worthwhile 'holidays', but birthdays are cool too -- Especially if it's the first one.

Yay for Ironwood and, soon, micro-Ironwood!

Cy, comedy gold. Seriously.

... uhm ...

My day today has, so far, been nearly identical to yesterday, except I haven't forgotten my badge and had a steak salad sandwich for lunch. Oh, and I bought a copy of Charles Dickens' "Bleak House" on the way back to the office as a desk ornament.

In a couple hours I'm going to go beat the ever-loving shit out of a 100lb. heavy bag for an hour or two, maybe spar a bit, then go home, then go to my usual local club and have a few beers while listening to bad music. My most pressing concern will be whether I'm in the mood for Newcastle or Guinness.

And that'll be that.

I met Warren Christopher today.  Roxor?

Edit: Cyrex is brilliant and yay for Ironwood.

Edit 2: I need you all to resolve a dispute me and the girlfriend were having today.  Is Sarah Silverman generally funny?

Edit 3: Since you all care, update to original story!  I am posting this from house of Greg, mentioned in original post.  Guess he's not that mad after all!  However, on the downside, he did expose himself to me several minutes ago. :(

Jus Primae Noctis was another of Braveheart's little "artistic touches". There's no evidence of it at that time and place in history, to the best of my knowledge.

Elena Marie Pieroni was born at 9:15 this morning, weighing 4pounds 4 ounces.  She's perfect.

Alas, due to complications my wife is currently in a hospital bed drugged out of her mind with tubes sticking everywhere.  Her liver Ruptured during an Emergency C-Section.  She's in a bad way.  I'm fairly sure she'll be fine, tho, as she's in the best place she could be.  They caught the bleeding in time and repaired everything once Elena was out the way.

I'll try and bring some pics of Elena home with me tonight.

Cya laters.

Congrats, Ironwood.

My wife was induced and went through 18 hours of labor before she had an emergency C section.  The first time that I saw my son he was purple from the lack of oxygen that required the C section.  He starts kindergarten in a couple of weeks and is the smartest child on the planet.  :)

I pray that every thing goes as well for you as it did for my family.

Sleep now before the wife and child come home because your world will become a perpetual shade of gray for a while as it is never fully dark or fully light around a newborn.

Allow me to help further.

3 drains and 2 tubes have been removed from the wife.  She still has a cutdown tube at her neck, but she's totally conscious, aware and on the mend.  Moaning about how she can't play with Elena as much as I am, so if she's moaning, things are right with the world.

Going back to work tomorrow.  Not going to let a hospital convalesence eat into my maternity leave when I can have more fun with the wife and kid at home.

Congratulations! It's always good to have another little person come into the world who will be well trained by their parents.

You have however missed your chance with this contest:

Paid to deliver on time (no, not FedEx)
Getting paid for your labor goes literal: the mother of the first baby born when comedian Jeff Foxworthy's new show premieres will win $50,000.
August 14 2006: 3:28 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Promotional advertising has become quite the intimate affair in the past few years. Commercial sponsors now pay for couples' weddings and buy space on people's bodies, cars, pets and wheelchairs.

Now Country Music Television wants in on the delivery room.

It is announcing on Monday that it will pay $50,000 to the mother of the first baby born in the United States during the "Labor" Day weekend premiere of comedian Jeff Foxworthy's "new baby" -- a sketch comedy show called "Foxworthy's Big Night Out," first airing Friday, Sept. 1.

The winning delivery will be the earliest delivery during the local time that the premiere airs (8:30 p.m. Eastern time, 8:30 p.m. Pacific time, 9:30 pm mountain time and 7:30 p.m. central time). If there's a tie, CMT will hold a random drawing to determine the winner.

CMT also is offering $1,000 to the person who identifies the first baby born.

In addition, CMT will donate a 42-inch flat screen HDTV to the hospital where the earliest birth occurs on Sept. 1. And it will award $5,000 to the mothers who deliver the first baby during the airing of each of the show's 11 subsequent episodes.

To those who have never thought "mutual funds" means everyone's having a good time, you'll be glad to know there is nothing in the contest's rules requiring that the winner be a redneck.

Like to thank everyone for their kind words.  I'm actually touched.  I may almost smile at some point in the future.

However, there are medical reasons why a Section is not the immediate choice for delivery.  Talk to your doctor in full before making any decision.

Baby and mother continue fine.  Elena was wearing a wondrous outfit that last night that, due to her relative size and the bulkiness of the woolen cardigan, made her look totally 'pimp'.  Snoop would have approved.  I wish I'd had my camera for the inevitable 'This is How We Do It' caption.

:)

(The Royal.  What a fucking shithole.  You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villiany.  Fucking Ned Heaven.  What bothers me most about it is watching at least 20 young mothers a day outside on the steps smoking and using their fucking bumps as ashtrays.  These cunts need sterilised.)

Not sure I want to prolong this discussion, but I will qualify my controversial statement (for a change) by saying that there is a certain point where you should abandon the ideal of a vaginal birth, and there are many opinions on when this is.  If you think you need a section for whatever reason, don't hesitate to bring it up, otherwise you might end up at 8cm after thirty hours with some unpleasant readouts on the monitor.  Yeah, give it a go if you don't expect any issues, however if you have already had one I'd say that you should seriously consider one as an early option for any future delivery.  My wife isn't what you would call tough, but she was on her feet and working again one week after her section.

I will also point out that, in my experience, no one knows anything incredibly significant about pregnancy.  It seems to be treated as a temporary ailment, like a nine-month flu.  YMMV and whatnot, maybe my expectations of medical professionals is too high.  Just don't blindly assume they are right all the time.

There are also unpleasant possibilities associated with a vaginal birth.  Just consider all the options, you know.  I could give examples and whatnot, but this is supposed to be a happy occasion.  Let's just celebrate the new family and be glad that everyone is coming out OK.  I'd MUCH rather talk about fatherhood than this sort of thing.  Really.

Fatherhood rocks the fucking planet.

Fatherhood rocks the fucking planet.

Except for potty training and those infrequent 'explosive' diapers where you wind-up cleaning half the room.

Ugh.

At least my kids never pulled the "monkey act" my nephews did.

My son literally -- literally! -- blasted shit onto my face directly from his anus.  It was 99% my fault, of course.  Fatherhood still rocks.  Also: I am immune to shit now, which is kinda like a superpower.

It's important to have a positive attitude.

I don't disagree with anything you say.  For Christine, the choice was an illusion of choice anyways.  She was bleeding into her abdomen and her sats were dropping.  That wean was coming OUT.

As for her recovery, people should note that she will be in at least a week and a half - she did have a major incision vertically to her breastbone to allow the repair of the liver.  It wasn't a normal pregnancy by any means.  Further, women on these boards should be aware that Christine's condition was a freak occurance that the head of surgery had only seen once before in his life.

Its a very invasive procedure. Too invasive to do it "just in case". Maybe my expectations of medical professionals is even higher, I expect them to know when it is needed.

There was a BBC podcast I heard recently with the difference of childbirth in England and the USA. Usually US doctors do everything to cover their asses to avoid possible lawsuits. That podcast was very enlightening for me.

Thank you for the warning, Ironwood.  Fortunately it is something around half (by percentage of activity, not by the numbers) of our regular female posters do not have to worry about anyways.  You are not turning us into non-sprog poppers, we already are.

With a few more pics of that cutie, I might try to find a way though!  (hint, hint -- more pics)

I can't believe how pretty his baby is... it just seems wrong, somehow.  I was expecting glowing, red eyes.  His wife must be gorgeous and have really, really overwhelmingly strong genes.  Seriously, IW, that is a beautiful baby.  My cousin was my favourite baby, though.  She was born with soft coating of black hair everywhere.  Now that is cool!  (Her name is Donna, by the way, which Italians would have ended up calling your sprog, anyway, so Elena was probably a good choice)

I have tons more pics and also quicktime video (one of which may just hurt you with the cuteness burn).  I'm just very wary about turning this board into all about me and mine.

:)

Oh, all right.  How about this :

Not the best, but I haven't uploaded them all yet.  And I'm trying to keep pictures of me or Christine well out of it.

Modify your above post (not the one with the Cuteness link) and put in another FTP link and check out the HTML that gets generated.

No. SMF code doesn't handle FTP URLs properly if you use the URL tags as seen below (hover over the link so you see the rendered URL) so I put the correct HTML straight into the database (bypassing SMF).

Cuteness (http://ftp://193.192.69.187/P1010016.MOV) (broken)

If you want to use an FTP URL, just type it in without any tags like so:

ftp://193.192.69.187/P1010016.MOV (Cuteness working)

Edit: fixed more typos

Fatherhood has made me TIRED.

I'm an English Graduate that can't spell and and IT Manager that can't slap up some web-code.

Christine coming home from the hospital tomorrow.  I'm going to feed, change and bathe Elena and then I'm going to sit beside her and sleep for as long as I can.

Tired, I tell you.  Walking to the hospital 4 times a day takes it out of you.

You are also an f13'er WHO I love to tease.  If I were as rich as you are, I would hire ex-cons to tickle you every morning.  Big guys.  I would pay them to giggle like little girls, too.

Another tip: do not ever look down the barrel, even if you think she's not loaded.

Seriously. Cutest baby ever. Can she be the f13.mascot?
Is only because I didn't post pics when Hannah (14 months) or Laura (5 years) were born.

Re: Yegolev:
My wife had an emergency section the first time and a planned at the second birth, but I'd still say go for natural childbirth every time if it's an option (but make sure you know all your options and are well briefed on pros and cons). Sections are full surgery and inheriently more risky. There's a lot to be said - but that's for another thread. But a drugged up wife unable to hold the child for long while the father gets all the early bonding is one big argument against just picking a section. Your wife (and mine) had no choice in the matter, but mine wasn't happy about it either time.

... and you'll get some decent sleep in about 4-5 years time (unless you get another, that resets everything)

I didn't aww.

Actually I was going to post that this makes me NOT want to have a baby after reading about the lack of sleep, diaper changing, etc, but decided against it.

I get very grumpy without my sleep. And I'm grumpy enough as it is.

I'm a real man! (Westles and kills grizzly bear)

Well, I don't know how much of a real man you are... I mean, I did think you were a woman named Margalis  for ages.  I always pictured you looking just like that pretty jazz singer,   You are pretty grumpy sometimes though.  I think you have very womanly political opinions.  We both share a long standing crush on Clint Eastwood.

Ok, fair enough, you're on the hard man list with such notorious people as Xanthippe, Haemish, Morphiend, Big Gulp, Numtini and Moe from the Three Stooges .  Some people I can't suss at all.  Schild is on no list because, although he talks tough, I have seen him weep for the children.  WAP should be on my old softie list, but sometimes he tells someone off in a most spectacular way using very unwomanly body parts.  I'll sort them out, though.

Anyway... again... Cute baby, IW.  Stay hard!  (err, you know what I mean)

The (U.S.) hospital I had my second son at (last month) did a thing where they laid the baby on Mom's chest for about 20 minutes almost immediately after birth.  All they did was clean him up - even put off weighing, measuring etc.

Apparently this helps stabilize blood sugar, temperature and other vitals even better than the incubator, which is another advantage to natural delivery.  So I think it's very situational whether you choose c-section or natural.

I was blessed with two very easy and normal deliveries. IW, you're a "harder" (thanks Signe) man than I to have dealt with those complications.  I would have been freaking out.  To undergo that stress and still have the presence of mind to share this occasion with us - worth your own thread at the very least.

I didn't "aww" either.  Children frighten me.

It wasn't so much an "awww" as an "AHHH!"

It's pronounced the same, but the inflection is different.

LMAO. That made my day!

I am generally a softie, but if I get pissed off I can hold a grudge like nobody's business (I am assuming this is due to my quarter Scot blood).

Of course I'm going to ooh and ah. It's my favorite kind of baby - someone elses. My sister's getting married in a few weeks, I can't wait for her to have a kid. I have big shoes to live up to, as memories of my uncle when I was a kid were some of my fondest.

Favorite memories of someone else's babies:

 - My aunt, who's four years older than me, changing my newborn nephew's diaper and getting a full blown super soaker in the face.
 - a buddy's little girl, not quite walking but at that climbing stage. I'm sitting in on the floor and she crawls over and decides to use me to climb on. Ends up litteraly hanging from my lower lip. Was rather  awkward, but quite funny.

Screaming at the sight of a helpless baby isn't very manly, whether you use "AHHHH!" or "EEK!".  The manly thing is to ask how many years will it take for the thing to start fetching your beer.
