I hate Daylight Savings Time.  A lot.  Almost as much as I hate the USPS.  If I were in charge, it would disappear.  I am dismayed to find out that DST is actually going to take up more of the calendar in 2007.  Instead of occurring from 0200 on the first Sunday in April to 0200 on the last Sunday in October, it is now spread from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.  Jesus, let's just shift the clock ahead an hour for the entire fucking year and be done with it.  RARG.

Best of all, I have to apply a fix to my servers for this.

i am too lazy to change my clocks for day light savings, i just leave them be an hour ahead or behind until the power cuts off or it changes back :/

It will help on lighting bills- the more after work time that is sunlit, the less people spend on lighting their homes. Of course, it would be nice if the powers that be would find some cheap alternative energy sources instead of dicking around with DST, but beggars can't be choosers.

November seems a bit late though. The freakin' sun will go down at 6PM instead of 5PM. BFD.

More sun in summer means more air conditioning, but more sun in winter means less heating.  Damn logic.  I still don't like it.

Daylight Savings Time is an archaic blight upon my life.

I love Daylight Savings Time.  I find it energising.  I wish it was all year long.  Of course, then it would just be time.

And then all the saving would be gone!

We'll just call it daylight time and save something else.

The flaw in your logic is it doesn't actually affect the degree days you need to cool/ heat because you still have the same total hours of sun/ dark.  It does affect the time all lights in businesses, homes and cities are turned on.

However, I agree they should just make that hour year-round and toss the whole back-forward thing out.

I do need to keep my house cool, but not as cool, when I am not there.  Maybe 78 or 79 instead of 76.  Sure, it's not a large percentage in savings but fractional amounts mean a lot when your power bill is $400-$500 in the summer.  Most of my bill is for heating/cooling, obviously.  People with smaller living spaces would have a different take on things.

Mostly I am bothered that I have to fuck with my clocks all the time.  These other things are just extra pain.

Wow, that seems expensive. I keep my living room at 70F, the rest of the apartment tends to be ambient temps, 80-86 this summer. I only pay $70/mo for electricity, including pc/tv/guitar amp. And I consider that expensive seeing that to the north and south of us are two socialist power networks that only pay about 1/10th what we do per kwh.

Two HVAC units in my house.  It is expensive, but I can't really do much about the rate.  The monthly bill is only going to go up, now that I have gotten my hot tub repaired (hopefully).

Yes, but the energy savings isn't about homeowners. It's about businesses and corporate office parks and factories.  Heating/ Cooling issues are much different there, where lights become a heating load than houses running 150 watt bulbs in a few rooms.

For me it just means two days a year that I have a harder time waking up on time. Oh, and it's a pain in the ass trying to figure out what the fucking time is in AZ if I have to call a customer there.

If people want to work different hours in summer they are perfectly entitled to do so. It doesn't require the rest of us to screw around with clocks, and have to repatch every server in christendom to support that.

Righ does nearly all his work from home and my important work is done in the kitchen, so, in that respect, it doesn't matter to us.  I think I like daylight savings time because, growing up, it meant the start of summer holiday and a whole, new, much more fun sort of trouble to get in to.

And on the other end of it- it usually ended just before Halloween, so it would be dark enough to go trick or treating by like 5PM. Which still seemed like an eternity when I got home from school at 3 or so  :-D

Your fond memories of clock-fuckery are now broken, thanks to those same clock-fuckers.
