It has been in between 90 and 100 in Seattle for several days now. My apartment doesn't have air conditioning, so it has been brutal. especially trying to sleep. Forecast today is for high 80s. I just got to work, and our A/C has been out all weekend. It is 85+ in here right now, and it isn't even 9 am yet. FUCK ME TO TEARS. Except I won't have any moisture left in my body to create tears.

I wish. I would have had one of those years ago if I had a window I could use for a vent. I DID see a small ice maker at Costco- makes 35 pounds of ice a day. It is only $160. I think I am gonna have to buy one so I can have a ready supply of ice on hand in my computer room.

Averages at least 85-90 here in Texas. Even during Christmas. Can easily get over 100 as well.

Think the high was 96 yesterday. Fortunately I spent the entire time tubing at the river.

Dude, it was 100 here last week, with somewhere between 60-80% humidity. IN JULY. Eevn I who have lived in Mississppi all my life, was fucking dying and that's with AC. Now you feel my pain.

It's been in the 100s here in Portland.  We had to help friends move on Saturday.  It was not awesome.  Other than that, we hooked up an old TV and the spare Cube in the relatively-cool basement and I played RE4 all weekend.  Unfortunately, the smell of catass rules out sleeping down there.

But, yeah, at least we don't have the humidity.

The weather's the same in Edmonton, believe it or not. The temperature in our house hasn't gone below 80 for two of the last four weeks (including the weekend we moved in), and most of the time it's above 90. The high yesterday was 96.

The weather pattern of hot and dry for the past five months has been broken this week with rain coming in from the gulf. Of course that just means the Hurricanes will probably start landing soon. Drought followed by two and a half feet of rain makes for some interesting times.

Interesting mudslides and flash floods.

It's only going to get worse. Sell that beachfront property and get out of FL.

See, WAP, if you actually lived in Seattle, instead of that treasonous yuppy suburb of Bellevue, you'd be bitching a lot less! Seriously, why are people still allowed to live in areas of Florida/GulfSouth that are hit by hurricanes on a regular basis?

What about flood prone areas like Edmonton/SouthernAlberta?

I am not up to speed on hurricane or flood insurance, but I can not see how this can be a viable business.

Hurricanes, I'm hoping, are not going to be one of my concerns.

Not living on the coastline helps a lot. The worst we get are downed trees. Windbreaks lessen the storms impact, and the elevation for where I live puts me above the 100 year floodline, and only a few inches below the 500 year line. If that one happens in my life, I'll live with it.

But living on the beach in this area is stupidity writ large. That's also the area where the highest value construction is concentrated.

So yes, there's a lot of concentrated stupid around here. That comes as no shock to me.

Sorry to bounce back, but how is it possible that you live in an apartment/dwelling that does not have air conditioning nor windows that open WayAbvPar?

The windows (some of them) open, but they slide left to right, not up and down. They also have screens. In order to install an air conditioner I would have to do all sorts of modifications/destruction that would make me unpopular with the management. The good news is I will have a new house by next summer. The bad news is that will probably make me too poor to buy an A/C. Goddamned global warming. I think it is all the hot air coming from Limbaugh, Moore, Hannity, Coulter, and the like.

Close:  It hit 99 here last week, same humidity, but has been dropping thanks to the front that's moving through.  It's low 80s and cloudy/drizzly today, but the sun is returning tomorrow.  Similar weather actually caused a door decoration to melt the first year my wife and I lived in our house.  I pray for days that the temp doesn't rise above 95.

Whoever is doing this, please remove the magnifying glass from my state.  There's far too much humidity for anything to burn - it just boils.

Include its installation in the price of your loan, along with any other wanted improvements.

It was 116 here in the east bay area, near SF, California. Most people here have A/C, but mine sucks so I was at the pool.

It was over 90 in SF proper, though, and nobody has A/C in SF.

I have an AC but I don't put it in because it doesn't fit the window very well and I don't want bugs coming in.

I'll take 100 degrees over bugs any day.

The solution to your and WAP's problem is the same.  Get a piece of plywood, cut it to fit the window.  Then cut a hole to fit the unit and attach the unit to it instead of the window frame.  Use duct or blue painter's tape (painter's tape won't leave residue on wood/ plaster/ drywall)   to seal any cracks if bugs are still a problem.

It will probably break 110 later today.  Also just for spice, my county is rated the worst air quality per capita in the United States.  So of course we have AC all over.  If we didn't we would die. 

Get a portable water cooler.  They stand about 3 feet tall, plug into the wall, and hold enough water to run all night long.  Put it about a foot away from you as you sleep. 

I'll jump in on the whining. Average Summer highs in Vancouver are usually in the low 80s. It was 95+ all weekend here.

No AC, my appartment with it's lovely western exposure, was still over 90 degrees at 2:30am Saturday night.

We had one town in the interior of the Province hit 105 on Saturday. This is fucking Canada people.

Had no AC the first 2 weeks of AZ summer. It hadn't hit the 110-120s yet. But it's not my fault Seattle is a damp hell.

Thanks be to the FSM- it is going to be barely 80 today. Just walked to Starbucks, and it was cloudy with a COOL breeze! Our AC is still fuckered in the office, however, so it is nice and stuffy in here. I think FEMA must be our landlord...only explanation for the level of incompetence.

Nope.. your landlord's just as cheap as ours, is all. 

The company moved my department into a new space we rented on the first floor back in February, complete gut and rehab.  The Tuesday after Memorial day we came in and one of the AC units (there's 3 for the space) was making a really loud clanking noise, like the motor had fallen off its seat.   We called our Office manager at 8:00 and she called the building management company who came and checked it out about 11:30 that morning.  They popped the ceiling tiles and took a look, eventually just shutting it off.  That's the last time anyone's been in to look at it.  We've mentioned it to the Office manager a few times since then, but nothing's happened.  I think they're just figuring they can wait until we start really bitching - as in daily calls- and save the repair cost in the meanwhile.

We bought an electrical heater in october to save on the bill since the entire house is heated by electricity - this also serves as an AC (and they're rare here considering the general consensus is that Denmark has a white winter, a green winter and a weekend of summer). Of course every dime I saved by using it this winter is lost, now that I'm running it in reverse in the summer. 30+C here 22 inside...
