Title: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Morfiend on July 20, 2006, 04:56:26 PM Enjoy.
http://www.neowin.net/index.php?act=view&id=34189 Quote According to Yahoo Biz, for the first time ever (I'll have to check on that one) a major U.S. entertainment company and a top Korean MMOG developer are working together on a new MMORPG. Cartoon Network New Media a current leader in online gaming and entertainment and Grigon Entertainment a top Korean MMOG developer are working on a new MMORPG to be released in 2008. "Cartoon Network MMOG" will launch globally sometime during Spring 2008, and target Cartoon Network's big demographic: kids. Kids won't be the only target though of course, casual MMOG fans will also be something they will want to have play the game. As of now, according to the press release, the game will be freely available to download and support a subscription service and a micro-transaction service. Over the course of several years, new areas will be made available to players for exploration. Cartoon Networks mainstay characters such as Mac and Bloo, Ben 10 and the Kids Next Door will all be playable and of course players will be able to make their own custom made character in the game. Grigon Entertainment will use an "East meets West" approach for the game, so it will be interesting to see exactly how they interpret the Cartoon Network characters and translate them for a global audience. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. GODDAMN, I SLAY ME. Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Strazos on July 20, 2006, 07:34:08 PM I'd rather see an Adult Swim MMO.
Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Krakrok on July 20, 2006, 08:37:39 PM Where is the Smurfs MMO you bastards? Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Cyrrex on July 21, 2006, 01:12:11 AM Where is the Smurfs MMO you bastards? Seriously...that sounds way more interesting than a Cartoon Network MMO. Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Chenghiz on July 21, 2006, 05:18:00 AM I can't wait to see a million Dragonball clones walking around.
Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: shiznitz on July 21, 2006, 07:58:40 AM Where is the Smurfs MMO you bastards? Heh. I can imagine that the game turns every tenth word that one types to "smurf". Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: WindiaN on July 21, 2006, 08:14:59 AM if they ever make any game using the smurfs franchise it better be lemmings style!
Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Chinchilla on July 21, 2006, 08:17:16 AM Dude, does this mean I get to play as Patrick from Spongebob Square Pants? Rocking.
Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: El Gallo on July 21, 2006, 08:21:03 AM I'd rather see an Adult Swim MMO. If some ubermob dropped The Foreigner Belt or Carl Brutananadilewski's flip-flops of Powah, my catassery would put the catassery of every catass that has ever walked the Earth to shame. Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: damijin on July 21, 2006, 08:39:47 AM Thundercats IMO.
Snarf is a mount. Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: geldonyetich on July 22, 2006, 10:08:24 AM Ted Turner: "So, that Disney's Toontown thing crashed and burned, right?"
Lackey: "Uh... no." Ted Turner: "(@#$ Make one while the cash cow's still available for milking!" Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Yegolev on July 23, 2006, 08:15:33 PM I'll play if I can shoot the people who made Tom Goes to the Mayor.

Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Strazos on July 24, 2006, 09:50:53 AM I fucking hate that show. Also, the other show that's poorly drawn with mice and shit.
Adult Swim has been shoveling a lot of shit lately. Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: tazelbain on July 24, 2006, 09:53:55 AM Moral Orel, Venture Bros., Robot Chicken and Boondocks.
Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Strazos on July 24, 2006, 09:57:11 AM But don't they still air Inuyasha?
And WTF, Peewee's Playhouse?! Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: HaemishM on July 24, 2006, 09:58:10 AM They aired Saved by the Bell too.
No, I can't tell you why. Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: geldonyetich on July 25, 2006, 12:01:21 PM Adult Swim is all stoner culture's fault, says my stoner friend, desperate for validation. Granted, shows like 12 Oz. Mouse and Perfect Hair Forever definately add plausibility to that claim.
Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: LC on July 27, 2006, 09:25:31 AM You are all wrong. It will be that crap they air on friday nights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartoon_Cartoon_Fridays). A few years ago they were calling them "cartoon cartoons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartoon_Cartoons)", but stopped using that name a few years ago. If you read those wikipedia pages the reason will become obvious.
Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Strazos on July 27, 2006, 11:12:31 AM Please explain?
Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: geldonyetich on July 27, 2006, 03:54:54 PM I think he's saying that the mainstream cartoon stuff they air on the Friday Nights block will likely be the basis of the Cartoon Network MMO.
Which I don't think he'll find any disagreement with. We were just thinking about if they decided to make an Adult Swim MMO. I would say it would be very hard to make a good Cartoon Network MMO considering that the various intellectual property wouldn't unite very well into a single product... but then, Disney's Toontown and Kingdom Hearts didn't seem to have any trouble with that. Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: Merusk on July 27, 2006, 04:22:27 PM The problem with a multi-license deal like you're talking about is you're not just dealing with 2 companies (Disney and Square-Enix) but multiple companies and multiple rights, some of which are already granted to other companies to make games for those properties.
If CN's doing anything, they're using properties they wholly own, rather than have the license to show in the US. I.E. Johnny Bravo, Power Puff Girls, Dexter, Kids Next Door, etc. If it were to be Adult Swim, it'd have to be the Tom Goes to the Mayor, 12oz Moose, etc crap because I don't believe they own the rights to Space Ghost, Sealab, and all those as a whole. (Or does Hanna-Barbara fall under Turner's properties too?... or is it AOL-TW..I don't know anymore) Heck, I wonder if they even own the rights to those beyond production. Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: damijin on July 28, 2006, 08:24:22 AM Sealab, SGC2C, ATHF, and several other shows are made by Williams Street in-house. They use Hanna Barbera characters, but I'm pretty sure CN or Time-Warner has the rights to ALLLL of that. The entire Boomerang channel is basically just Hanna Barbera.
So, yes if they made an AS MMO, which they will not, they would probably be able to use those characters. Another way to look at it is to glance at Cartoon Networks HUGE library of free flash games. If they have the right to make free flash games using DBZ and Gundam characters, they clearly already have communication channels open to deal with the people who would be able to bring those characters to a commercial product. They also have a p2p game service I THINK where you can play larger games and download them to your PC. Looking into that service would give an even better idea of what kind of characters they have available to them. Title: Re: Cartoon Network MMO Post by: geldonyetich on July 28, 2006, 08:52:21 AM The "Bloo's big fat awesome house party" (http://awesomehouseparty.com/house/home.jsp) thing already smacks somewhat of MMOG overtones. All it's missing is, erm, the other players.
