Apparently Joel Siegel didn't like Clerks II enough that he walked-out on the flick.  Not only did he walk-out but he caused a scene, yelling something like "this is the first movie I've walked out on in 30 years!"  Kevin Smith has some kind words of advice for Mr. Siegel.

Yeah, Smith was on WMMR in Philadelphia today...funny.

The .mp3 on Smith's site with him calling out Siegel is priceless. The best is where he starts denying some of his stupid puns that Smith quotes in the article that you can still see on ABC's site.

While I'm no fan of Joel Siegel or any other movie critic (aside from Gary Cogill  (http://www.wfaa.com/garycogill/) ), I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person in the world who thinks Kevin Smith sucks.

I like Kevin Smith, but my favorite film of his is his least unfunny one (Chasing Amy).

It's his most "serious" movie, but it's still pretty damn funny. I'm torn between that one, Dogma or Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back as my favorite.

I just watched Chasing Amy for the first time last night.  I did not expect it to be so… odd.  I’m not sure if I really liked it, but it definitely made me think and sparked some interesting conversations afterward.  It’s one of those movies I’m really going to like after dwelling on it over a couple days, or not.

Joey Lauren Adams sure looked good in it though.

It's funny when it tries to be funny. It doesn't fail at funny. It's just as good at "funny" as any of his other flicks. It's just that "funny" is not it's main point.

Point is: Amy is a serious take on romance/infatutation -- with comedic elements. It's Kevin Smith trying to do something more than just making people laugh.

Clerks or Jay and Silent Bob? That's Cheech and Chong for Geeks. Dogma is religious satire. They're comedies through and through.

I was just trying to say I thought Jersey Girl was his most serious movie - not Chasing Amy by any stretch.

I found Smith's movies to be much funnier (and thought they were much more intelligent) when I was a teenager.  Apparently I grew up but Smith never did.  Or something.  He's got the money though, so I'm pretty sure he wins.   :-)

Yep. that's where we heard all about Ben Afflek's ballsack maneuver (he used to come up behind Kevin Smith was in the director's chair, and put his ballsack out and put it on Kevin's shoulder), and Jason Mewes heroin addiction.

I have whiled away many an hour at work reading his blog. The 8 part post about Mewes's addiction is really interesting reading.

If I had to rank his movies, I would probably go-

2) Mallrats
3) Dogma
4) Clerks
5) Chasing Amy

All of the first 5 are 'must watch' movies- if I catch any of them on a pay cable channel (so they are uncut), I am obligated to sit and watch the rest of the movie.

Smith is great, and I don't really understand the hate.  I liked Jersery Girl, but really wished it would have been a movie more about grandpa and the daughter.  Course, Liv Tyler walks on screen and my brain kinda shuts down in a good place.

I saw jay and silent bob strike back and dogma first, and i heard from everyone else that the other movies were much better, so i got them all on netflix one by one only to realize that i liked jay and silent bob and dogma better anyway... kinda ruined the other ones because i was expecting better movies :/

As a Christian, Dogma was brilliant. I'm one of the few Christians I know who will admit this, but they also think Bob Saget is funny.

I agree there. I think Dogma is hilarious. But then, I don't care much for "religion" for religion's sake.

Saget is hilarious in the Aristocrats as well, and his cameo in half baked is really funny

Very few comedians seem to be able to retain their original brillaince once they're on a sitcom. Carlin sucked, Damon Wayans sucked, Norm McDonald sucked...

Some can't even do it with movies too, I guess.

I would not go as far as very few, it works often enough (Cosby, Seinfeld, Newhart) that they keep trying.

I'd say Seinfeld and Newhart were actually funnier on their shows than they actually were in their standup acts.  Seinfeld was really only a middling-level comic before his show really hit it big, and I'd peg most of that success on Larry David.  Cosby's show was a success, but no way was he funnier on that show than his act is...  Bill Cosby is a comic genius; when he was at his zenith in the 70's he and Steve Martin were really the best comedians working.

Jesus.  Seinfeld standup must have been the black hole of suck.

Obviously you never saw America's Funniest Home Videos. The guy needs to be pegged out on an anthill and covered in raspberry jam for that and Full House, no matter how funny he may be in other venues.

Those bits in the first season and a half where they showed him at his "show" that week?  Those were jokes from his actual stand-up routine.  Yeah, not so funny.

What's weird is that I like 'Curb'.  It's genuinely funny.

I find Curb to be far more enjoyable--the awkward situation humor feels more "genuine," as you say, because the most of the scenes are ad-libbed. The plot is laid out before but all the dialogue is on the spot.

In "Seinfeld" Jerry was really the straight man to the others. He was easily the most normal of the four leads.

One thing I love about "Seinfeld" is watching Jerry crack up and try not to start laughing when one of the other characters does something crazy. You can tell they were having a great time.

Really? No Curb love? You should give it a few more episodes. It is cringeworthy stuff sometimes, ala the original version of The Office. Just Larry digging himself one hole after another.

Yeah, I got about 15 minutes into the episode about the sandwich named after Larry and just couldn't take it. I hadn't laughed once, maybe chuckled lightly once, that's about it. I had no empathy for the character and no real interest in it, despite loving the George character on Seinfeld.

I think there needs to be some kind of redemption of a character for them to pull off acting like a dick all the time. Larry just fucking bothered me, and I kept wondering why the hell people put up with him.

IIRC that was definitely one of the weaker episodes. Try Netflix-ing one of the first 3 seasons and check them out. There is some seriously hilarious stuff.

The one with the Glaucoma, the Hooker and the Carpooling lane cracked me up.
