Title: Looking for a gaming tournament video clip Post by: shiznitz on July 17, 2006, 12:05:18 PM About a year ago, I watched a video clip of some console fight game tournament where some guy blocked his opponent about 20 times in a row with a sliver of health and then did a kill move to win. The crowd is going bezerk.
Anyone know what this was? Is it now on YouTube somewhere? Title: Re: Looking for a gaming tournament video clip Post by: Fabricated on July 17, 2006, 01:52:32 PM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7cW2nMf1gk

I suck at fighting games, too. Title: Re: Looking for a gaming tournament video clip Post by: Strazos on July 17, 2006, 02:38:26 PM How the heck do you block something like that? I remember every block still taking a sliver of health...

This is a clip of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. The Ken player is Daigo Umehura, one of the best SF players in the world. The other player is Justin Wong, one of the best US players. Daigo is not blocking, he is parrying. To parry you hit forward on the stick as the attack comes toward you. When you parry you don't take any damage or get pushed backwards, and you recover much faster than if you were blocking. He jumps and parries the last hit so he can start his combo with an air-hit. I watched it a dozen time, giggling like a little girl. Yeah, I'm a Zangief whore. Not sure if this is it because I don't have sound at work ATM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jen46qkZVNI&search=scv%20rush
Title: Re: Looking for a gaming tournament video clip Post by: Strazos on July 19, 2006, 09:44:52 AM I haven't played SC in years, so....the Terran peasant units are a lot tougher than the zerg equivalent units?
But anyway....it's Starcraft....lol Title: Re: Looking for a gaming tournament video clip Post by: Margalis on July 19, 2006, 12:50:36 PM Zerg peasants attack slowly and have low health, low damage and low armor.
The terran SCVs have a much better combo of health, armor, damage, etc. I forget the exact ways in which they are better, but they are way better overall. The Protoss probes are also better than the Zerg thanks to their shields. Title: Re: Looking for a gaming tournament video clip Post by: Strazos on July 19, 2006, 01:00:37 PM I think I'd rather watch competitive SMB3. A bit. The real kicker with that maneuver was the two marines laying down fire from the back. The SCVs on their own would have gotten wiped out, but using SCVs to run interference for marines is an excellent early game move, particularly for defending against zergling rushes and the like. You just don't see it used offensively very often. :-D |
