Title: A night of boozing, peanuts, and asskicking????
Post by: Jacob0883 on July 09, 2006, 06:55:45 AM
UFC 61 (Spoilers)

UFC 61 will go down as the worst UFC of all time.  I have never heard so much hype about something to see it fall so flat on its face.  I hope the ref from the Tito and Shamrock fight is fired by now.  I also think the heavy weight match was the stupidest thing I have ever seen.  The judges said they saw some 30 punches land???  Hell no, maybe 30 hugs landed.

Feel free to discuss how mad you are that you paid 40 dollars for this.

You pay for UFC?

At best I will watch it in a bar if it's on when I happen to be there.

Back when they first started UFC and it actually was mostly no holds barred I could see paying the PPV prices.  But now that it's just a less talented version of any other regulated sport?  Meh.

Did Shamrock beat Ortiz? I was hoping the earth would open and swallow both of them- not many fighters I despise more than those two douchebags (except the goddamned Gracies, and Royce got his comeuppance last time).

I once saw Ken Shamrock fight Edge.

Edge kicked his ass with The Spear.

UFC is stupid trying to cash in on nostalgia like Shamrock vs. Ortiz and Gracie vs. Hughes. These oldsters have been losing in international competition for years.

If you could time-warp 1995 Gracie and Shamrock to today those might be great matches. But these guys are just over the hill now. It's stupid to pit old school vs. new school in a physical contest where the old school guys are 10 years past their physical primes. Especially Shamrock who was in WWE for a while which ages your body much faster than MMA.

It would be like trotting out the 90s Bulls to have them take on The Heat. That might be a great matchup if every Bull player wasn't 40+.

All this does is make the old guys look really pathetic, which they aren't. They are just done with their careers.

Anyway UFC 61 was awful. The UFC heavyweight division is a joke so having 2 HW fights on the card is weak. Ortiz vs. Sammy was a throwaway match, there was basically no chance Shamrock would win. He hasn't been a wnning fighter in years.

Haven't liked UFC since they changed the rules back in the day. Then I started liking Pride (which btw, presented a particular fighter, Kazushi Sakuraba, who kicked not only Shamrock's ass, but the entire damn Gracie family's ass....And any other would be avenger of Brazilian Jui-Jitsu or Shamrock shootfighting. All of their careers should have ended there).

Then Pride got boring too. For some reason, these leagues deteriorate either because of padding/style/weight class rules or because too many muscleheaded wrestlers, and not enough martial artists, get involved.
