Title: Grandma's Boy Post by: Broughden on June 26, 2006, 06:34:34 AM Just watched this movie this morning. Its centered around the game development community, and was produced by Adam Sandler. Has anyone else seen this? I thought it was hilarious.
Grandma's Boy (http://imdb.com/title/tt0456554/) Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: schild on June 26, 2006, 03:06:43 PM It's pretty good. The lead chick is hot. Some of the lines are pretty fun. The best stuff was the pot jokes though. The gaming stuff was weak.
IT'S THE FRANKENSTEIN! Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Broughden on June 26, 2006, 10:21:55 PM It's pretty good. The lead chick is hot. Some of the lines are pretty fun. The best stuff was the pot jokes though. The gaming stuff was weak. IT'S THE FRANKENSTEIN! Whew! I was worried there for a bit that I was the only one who had seen it. How funny though were the charicatures of lead designer and the CEO? The subtle references to the likes of John Romero (character- JP) and Richard Garriott (Mr. Cheesell) were pretty funny I thought. Quote Dude... you have to give me a ride. I'm way too baked to drive to the devil's house. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: schild on June 26, 2006, 10:24:53 PM I hated the character of JP. Completely. He made my skin crawl.
Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Righ on June 26, 2006, 10:34:37 PM Whew! I was worried there for a bit that I was the only one who had seen it. Pretty much, considering it opened in over 2000 cinemas and failed to break $3 million gross, it probably even wiped the smug grin of Sandler's face for a short while. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: sarius on June 26, 2006, 10:39:29 PM Whew! I was worried there for a bit that I was the only one who had seen it. Pretty much, considering it opened in over 2000 cinemas and failed to break $3 million gross, it probably even wiped the smug grin of Sandler's face for a short while. Ouch, that's pretty bad. Not worth the rental I take it? Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Broughden on June 26, 2006, 10:44:26 PM Whew! I was worried there for a bit that I was the only one who had seen it. Not worth the rental I take it? Actually I didnt even know it had been released in theaters. I thought it went straight to video. Worth the rental? I'd say given the fact we are all gamers, and both Schild and I found it amusing....its worth a Sunday evening rental fee. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: schild on June 26, 2006, 11:47:35 PM Ya know, as a gamer it is worth the rental. As a comedy, well, it's funnier than Club Dread.
Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Hoax on June 26, 2006, 11:57:19 PM Quote it's funnier than Club Dread. You have such whacky taste in everything. HUMAN MOTHER-FUCKING PACMAN, MAN! Comedy fucking gold I tell you. There were some nice titties in that movie too... No, I have nothing of substance to add, felt like posting something before going to sleep. Dumped off into the post-holiday dead zone with zero publicity, like a baby left on a doorstep. I suspect the studio considered it a turd, but was obligated to release it on X screens. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: HaemishM on June 27, 2006, 09:22:27 AM Ya know, as a gamer it is worth the rental. As a comedy, well, it's funnier than Club Dread. Unpossible. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: bhodi on June 28, 2006, 01:41:08 PM yer a yimnist?
I concur: Human pac-man = comedy gold. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: dusematic on June 30, 2006, 09:13:07 PM I saw this movie. It was easily the worst movie I've ever seen in my entire life. It's revolting to me that any of you found it funny. I was drunk and didn't laugh once.
Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: schild on June 30, 2006, 09:14:42 PM If you didn't laugh at the Frankenstein line, you were trying not to laugh.
Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: dusematic on July 01, 2006, 07:05:56 AM I don't remember the Frankenstein line. The entire movie was uttery unforgettable, the shittiness notwithstanding.

You wanna fun-fucking-arrest me? You better get a fun-fucking-warrant! Otherwise, stay outta my... fun-fucking-face! club dread was funny damnit. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: schild on July 01, 2006, 04:42:45 PM No, Supertroopers was FUNNY.
Club Dread had a couple LOL moments. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: dusematic on July 02, 2006, 07:03:01 AM I agree Supertroopers was funny. I'm not adverse to weed humor, but I do think Sandler is out of touch with what's funny after Grandma's Boy (and Click). That Spanish movie he did was good though.

Your concept of good versus bad is obviously broken beyond all repair. Get the fuck outta my thread! Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Righ on July 02, 2006, 11:17:27 AM Spanglish was a cheap-shot one-dimensional feel-good chick-flick. The characters aren't just paper-thin, they're unbelievable. Sandler plays a successful chef that couldn't command a rowboat let alone a kitchen. Leoni plays a self-obsessed bitch who even a spineless moron wouldn't marry. Vega plays an angelic maid who never does any work and wears expensive outfits. Every interaction between the characters seems contrived and out of place. If these "characters" were used by Brookes as a vehicle for jokes in a TV sitcom they would at least be forgivable, if far from his best efforts. In Spanglish, a film almost entirely devoid of humor, they are horrific.
Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: dusematic on July 02, 2006, 01:16:19 PM It's a good movie for Sandler, it's his most critically acclaimed role after Punch Drunk Love. You know a lot more about it than me though, like maybe you watched it more than once.

You know a lot more about it than me though, like maybe you watched it more than once. It was a festering, steaming pile of dog shit. I might be the most hated guy since SirBruce on this forum (and according to Schild I am), but no matter how bad I get I will always be able to point to you from now on and say, "Yes I am teh suck, but Duse liked Spanglish!" Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: dusematic on July 02, 2006, 03:56:09 PM Don't get too carried away dude. This is the thread you started about how hilarious Grandma's Boy is. But all's fair in love, war, and movie criticism. Anyway, it's not like Spanglish is my favorite movie or anything, I didn't even remember the name of it until Righ mentioned how much he loved it. I just remembered watching it and saying, "hey, this is a huge departure from Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, and it's keeping me mildly entertained."
Plus, half the people on this board are arteests through and through, and I could really give a fuck about something as inherently subjective in any case. Displeasure noted, but peeps need to cut it with the vitriol over random bullshit. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Righ on July 02, 2006, 07:11:51 PM until Righ mentioned how much he loved it You're not only a shite person, you're a terrible troll. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: dusematic on July 03, 2006, 08:06:00 AM I know in Great Britain they have "wit" but here in America we have sarcasm. Your hatred of the movie was duly noted in your thorough, one paragraph long trouncing of it.
Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Ironwood on July 03, 2006, 08:27:19 AM While we're all here, can someone explain Napoleon Dynamite to me ?
I watched it the other night. It was like getting my teeth drilled. Is it supposed to be funny ? Moving ? Romantic ? What ? Again, not being a dick, I honestly sat through it going 'what ?' and only had one laugh. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Llava on July 03, 2006, 08:33:05 AM Can't help you there, sorry. I don't get it either.
Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Broughden on July 03, 2006, 08:38:50 AM While we're all here, can someone explain Napoleon Dynamite to me ? I watched it the other night. It was like getting my teeth drilled. Is it supposed to be funny ? Moving ? Romantic ? What ? Again, not being a dick, I honestly sat through it going 'what ?' and only had one laugh. While I did think it had some funny moments, like the older brothers comment on picking up chicks online... For the majority, it was funny to people who either: a) love to be able to claim that they "got it" while you "didnt get it" in order to feel some sort of superiority. b) considered themselves outsiders in school, and so connected with the main character. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: schild on July 03, 2006, 01:08:12 PM Napoleon wasn't an outsider! He was the type of kid even the outsiders made fun of! Someone not quite retarded that you can call retarded.
Man, that movie was a piece of shit. Again, I quote my flatemate: It was like getting beaten up by nerds. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Merusk on July 03, 2006, 01:23:15 PM It was Revenge of the Nerds for the passive-aggressive. I don't get a lot of joy out of watching people who can't connect socially. Perhaps it hits too close to the mark, I dunno. Either way gave me a few chuckles but not much more.
Of course, I couldn't stand Fight Club to the point of turning it off, and loads of other people love it. I might just be broken. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Signe on July 03, 2006, 09:16:34 PM I have now watched about 1/2 of Grandma's Boy. I had to stop as I couldn't risk the brain cells. What a load of mindless rubbish!
Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Righ on July 03, 2006, 10:11:06 PM It's an awful film. It has some funny lines though. So you're all part right and part wrong. An interesting gaming connection - the cute lass was also the voice of Ursula in Gladius, though I recognised her from ER adverts.
Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: HaemishM on July 05, 2006, 08:34:05 AM While we're all here, can someone explain Napoleon Dynamite to me ? I watched it the other night. It was like getting my teeth drilled. Is it supposed to be funny ? Moving ? Romantic ? What ? Again, not being a dick, I honestly sat through it going 'what ?' and only had one laugh. I wish I could. But I had the same reaction. I couldn't finish watching it. It was that fucking bad. The people who try to imitate the movie are funnier than the movie itself. My wife likes Spanglish, but she's a woman so I can forgive her that. I thought it had one or two interesting lines wrapped around the shittiest shit shit plot I've seen since Monster-in-Law. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Yegolev on July 05, 2006, 12:05:36 PM While we're all here, can someone explain Napoleon Dynamite to me ? I watched it the other night. I am one of "those people" that thought Napoleon Dynamite was awesome, to the point of considering buying the two-disc unit. However, I still can't explain it. I don't think it needs explanation, actually. Like that terribly out-of-style lamp on your great-aunt's side table, it just exists and you either love it or hate it simply for it's twisted existence. Edited to say Sandler's movies are all terrible. Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: Signe on July 06, 2006, 03:49:07 AM I liked the dancing bit in it. I don't remember the rest, though.
Title: Re: Grandma's Boy Post by: dusematic on July 06, 2006, 06:10:44 PM Dude, this thread totally would have ended up denned if I hadn't gone to Va for the weekend.
