Title: Blogs/Webspace - prefer free Post by: Cheddar on June 21, 2006, 08:14:29 PM I am an idiot when it comes to the internet (outside of MMOGs - debatable). Is there a way to get free blog space with my own URL? I know Schild said something about it awhile back on F13.
edit. Forgot an e in Free. Did not want to draw wrath from the grammar snake. I live life a quarter mile at a time, but even I am not that crazy. Title: Re: Blogs/Webspace - prefer free Post by: schild on June 21, 2006, 08:17:25 PM Hmmmm. HRMMMMM. I have to think about this with the new server being so strange. Have news by this coming monday. Sound good? AWESOME.

Sound good? AWESOME. You don't even need anyone to answer you, do you? You seem to do fine taking care of both sides of a conversation. I wish I was happy with that. It would make my life and the lives of those around me much easier. I ALWAYS expect an answer and if I don't get on I just stand in one place shouting, "what?" "WHAT???" That and the fact that I stare at people is probably why I don't have any RL friends other than a couple of completely insane people what live in Woking and whatnot. Where is whatnot though? Title: Re: Blogs/Webspace - prefer free Post by: Signe on June 22, 2006, 05:57:42 AM I think it's a shop in Surbiton.
Title: Re: Blogs/Webspace - prefer free Post by: Lantyssa on June 22, 2006, 09:37:19 AM LiveJournal doesn't have ads unless you go with the Sponsored+ program, which gives you a little more freedom than the free version. There are several layout templates and you can use a good deal of HTML in the actual posts. Unless you go with the paid (and maybe sponsored) though, you'll have to host pictures elsewhere.
Blogger I don't know much about, but I don't recall seeing adds on the journal I've read there. Or we can wait until Monday. Hmmmm? Title: Re: Blogs/Webspace - prefer free Post by: Viin on June 22, 2006, 09:52:27 AM You still get your own url (www.livejournal.com/cheddarslameblog/) and I *believe* some of them can handle your domain (which is what I think you mean).. but since I have a web server for my blog, I haven't looked into it.
Title: Re: Blogs/Webspace - prefer free Post by: Lantyssa on June 22, 2006, 10:07:15 AM They now have it set up to work with cheddarslameblog.livejournal.com (http://cheddarslameblog.livejournal.com) as well. One can always register a domain name and point it where ever they want really cheaply, too.

I know that my numerous fans are anxiously awaiting my words! Title: Re: Blogs/Webspace - prefer free Post by: Lantyssa on June 22, 2006, 12:09:13 PM You'll have to talk to Viin about that. I simply used the addy from the first example, then suggested the way to make it whatever you want.

It's been pushed back "until it's ready." Unfortunately, there's no easy way of doing this on the new server though. Maybe we can figure something out. But it's not looking good.
After a while your avatar looks like it's just twitching. Title: Re: Blogs/Webspace - prefer free Post by: Cheddar on July 02, 2006, 06:54:38 PM Yea, that date was wrong.
