Title: Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
Post by: Morfiend on May 23, 2006, 12:42:00 PM
Ok, so my online friend was raving about this the other day, and in a fit of bordom, I went and bought it. About halfway through the installation I was reading the back of the box and looked down and in big letters there it was. "UBI SOFT"

Oh fuck.

In smaller print "This software is protected by anti-piracy software".

Fuck fuck fuck.

So I went online and found the list of Starforce products. Sure enough "Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter". My computer now has the virtual equilivant of herpies. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of Starforce when im done with the game?

So, on to the game.  Besides having about the stupidest name ever, Advanced Warfighter, the game has VERY good graphics. Very lifelike. The entire game is set in Mexico City, and as far as I can tell 99% of it is set outdoors. I started the game on Normal dificulty, and wow. I got my ass kicked left and right. I set it down to "easy" and im still getting creamed. I think I am on the 3rd level. this is my first Ghost Recon game, in fact its my first tactical FPS game, and damn do I suck. It also doesnt help that you cant save when ever you want, there are random save points. Also, my friend who has the 360 version (Ill get to that later) said he can heal his teammate, and they can heal him. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this, or even if i can.

So, other than the fact that I am very very bad at this game, and it has herpies, its pretty fun. Very frustrating when I dont know where the next save point is, and I keep having to replay the same fights over and over and over again. I have yet to play online, because I wanted to hone my skills a bit more first.

Now, the Xbox 360 version is basically a totally different game. The levels are different, the graphics are different, the weapons, the maps, the controlls are all different. Its odd that the game is so different. I mean, it really is a completely different game. My friend just beat his game, but he had to use invincibility cheats to do it (which I refuse to do).

So, there you go, my week long experiance with Ghost Recon: Advance Warfighter.

The one time I by mistake installed Starforce I formatted my C:\ drive. Sure, I could've run the uninstaller found at <I don't have this link handy>. But I don't trust that shit.

I had to be sure.

Godspeed, Morphiend.

I've always liked the Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six games, so I'd be inclined to pick this up if it wasn't for the "herpies".

...

Looking at a couple of posts on ArsTechnica (http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/39309975/m/145005588731/p/2) someone is saying it uses SecuROM instead.

To see if Starforce is installed in your system:

-Right-click on My Computer, select Properties and the Hardware tab. Enter the device manager

-In the menu above select View and select Show Hidden Devices

-If you have Staforce, it will be listed under the Non-plug and play drivers

Let us know!

Will do as soon as I get home. I did find it on "the list" though.  :-(

The List sucks. They've mixed European and American releases. Europe gets boned much more often on the Starforce front than America does. Also, most Starforce games don't really install Starforce until you run the game the first time. And then a little box appears before the games starts that says "Thank you for installing Star Force" or somesuch. Anyway, I wouldn't be TOO worried.

And ya, people on the Starforce boards talk about GRAW having SecuRom, so you should be ok.

Damnit. Now I cant blame Starforce for how bad I suck at this game.

I probably won't pick it up until July, so keep practicing.

Resident Evil 4 comes out tomorrow and it doesn't have Starforce. And I'm stoked.

Are you sure it's tomorrow? Everywhere I've gone its a different date. Our computer says July, Gamespot says September and Ubisoft.com says TBD.

Ever? Hardly. Future Soldier is pretty straightforward.
