Title: E3 article on Eve Post by: Engels on May 12, 2006, 02:45:00 PM http://arstechnica.com/journals/thumbs.ars/2006/5/12/3939
Most of the details have been covered elsewhere on this forum, but this provides a decent summary. Of particular interest was the 'why and how' of the new proposed voice chat system: Quote We also got to test the new in-game voice chat. This feature is being handled by Vivox, who is hosting the voice chat externally, not on Tranquility. The voice chat is uncompressed, 64k, and with hardware both domestically and outside of the US we shouldn't see any lag. We got to talk to people around the country testing the service and it sounded very impressive, much better than anything we're used to from Ventrillo. You'll be able to set up voice with one group, or everyone, or just a single person. The system is very granular. One of CPP's staff told us going out of the company was important for their voice chat, they wanted to make sure it was the best quality and they didn't feel like they could deliver that in-house. You rarely see that level of commitment in this sort of game, and it's refreshing, to say the least. |
