Title: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Falconeer on May 08, 2006, 01:47:40 PM Forgive me if this is older than my grannie, I just noticed it today and really enoyed it.
The page is in italian but you can skip all the text. You just have to fill the 33 blank fields with then ame of the videogames you are only given the acronyms of. It's definitely harder than it seems, and actually you can cheat googline the hell out of it. I didn't cheat, spent 3 hours on it, and got a score that I am really proud of. Still the ones I couldn't get will always hurt, deep inside. :) http://www.webdomus.it/tao/test_cultura_videoludica.php Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: schild on May 08, 2006, 01:50:13 PM The response time on the Java or whatever is running this page is too fucking slow. Unbearable.

Instead of having the answers encoded in the page in some too hard to decifer to make it worth the effort way they use AJAX to pull the answers from a server - every time you press a key. It's a stupid way to use such a cool technology. edit: Also, if whoever wrote thier javascript was working for me I would stick my foot up his ass just on GP after looking at that crap. Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: stray on May 08, 2006, 01:55:46 PM Java seems OK to me.
Anyways, I suck (4 right). Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Llava on May 08, 2006, 01:57:04 PM You spent 3 hours on it and you're proud? :|
Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: schild on May 08, 2006, 01:57:39 PM I filled in about 10 of them before I decided it wouldn't tell me if I was right, which I know I was or if I was wrong, which I know I wasn't. Then I got bored and left the page.
Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Falconeer on May 08, 2006, 02:17:41 PM You spent 3 hours on it and you're proud? :| I spent 4 on Horizons a couple of years ago. My son still gives me that despising glance sometimes... Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Llava on May 08, 2006, 04:01:28 PM A few months ago, I met a guy who still plays Horizons. And likes it.
He's exactly the kind of person you'd expect to like Horizons. One of his arguments was that no other MMO lets you fly.
<cough> Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Lantyssa on May 08, 2006, 04:35:45 PM Ouch. My CoH character just ate pavement from forty stories up. I wish I had known I couldn't get that power before I defied the laws of gravity.
Damn you, Newton. Damn you! Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Sairon on May 09, 2006, 02:12:50 AM Okay I didn't get them all, it's very picky on some things. The ones I've figured out so far:
S M B = Super Mario Bros. ( retarded that the dot was needed there ) C F = Cannon Fodder D D = Double Dragon The H of the D = The House of the Dead P O! = Punch Out! S of F = Soldier of Fortune D K = Donkey Kong A of E = Age of Empires D M C = Devil May Cry E of the B = Eye of the Beholder M S = Metal Slug P of P = Prince of Persia The K of F = The King of Fighters The L of Z = The Legend of Zelda G T A = Grand Theft Auto R E = Resident Evil Would love to know the ones I missed :-P Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Falconeer on May 09, 2006, 05:01:36 AM I got 31 total, miss 2... I am pretty sure they are ultra easy but can't get my head on those :(
I am stuck on 25 ( "The S G G" ) and 31 ( "B J" ). Would love to get those two. Anyway, here it is: Spoiler . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2 - Shadow of the Beast 4 - The secret pf Monkey Island 5 - Little computer people 6 - Rockstar ate my hamster 7 - Ecco the dolphin 8 - Defender of the crown 10 - The last ninja 11 - Zak McKracken and the alien mindbenders 14 - Sonic the hedgehog 17 - Parappa the rapper 19 - Bubble Bobble 23 - Peter Shilton's Handball Maradona 24 - Another World 25 ----- darn I have no clue here :( 27 - Dance Dance Revolution 31 ----- Again, sigh.. no idea :( 33 - Impossible Mission Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Sairon on May 09, 2006, 05:28:23 AM Aah, some of those I should've solved, but some of those games I've never heard of
Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: schild on May 09, 2006, 07:25:25 AM That game list was made up of things everyone should've gotten and no one should've gotten. I have an exhaustive knowledge of released games in America and Japan and never in a million years would I have thought of some of them. I don't believe for a minute that Falaconeer did either. Generally, it's only popular games that are given acryonems. Shitty ones are just ignored. No one walks around saying GHP for Greg Hasting's Paintball and no one walks around saying P the R for Parappa the Rapper. People did walk around and say EWJ instead of Earthworm Jim though - and that's not on the list. Also, R A my H? Rock Star Ate my Hamster? Are you fucking joking?
Getting a high score on this one requires 2 things: cheating and way too much time. On that note, a more impressive one would have been something with actual acronyms, though it probably would have ended up being about MMOGs. That little corner of the industry applies acronyms to even the shittiest games. SoR? MxO? Heh. On that note, a more impressive one would have been something with actual acronyms, though it probably would have ended up being about MMOGs. That little corner of the industry applies acronyms to even the shittiest games. SoR? MxO? Heh. Well, being accused of being a time waster, I can take it. Cheater? it hurts a little. Not about this stupid list, about everything. Actually I got 30 on my own out of exaggerate thinking. Peter Shilton's Handball Maradona didn't came to my mind and I got it from a friend. The last 2... I can't get it. It's a stupid list Schild and it definitely doesn't prove anything, I completely agree. That doesn't lead to everyone who spent too much time on it being a cheater. Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: schild on May 09, 2006, 07:50:52 AM You know, ironically, I was going to call you on Handball Maradona. But I didn't choose to take it that far because no one should have gotten 5 or 6 either. He'll, #11? Comeon.
They might as well have had T M and the C G. It's just as stupid and obscure. Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Falconeer on May 09, 2006, 07:50:56 AM Also, R A my H? Rock Star Ate my Hamster? Are you fucking joking? Actually, Rockstar is one of my favourite game of all time, and it's one of the very first I got on that list. And yes, I thought it was wicked. I expcted to see there something like TSAM (being They Stole a Million) and was pretty annoyed when I realizied I couldn't come up with stuff like PSHM or The SGG. Again, it doesn't prove anything. Everything you say is right, but I am no cheater. And I am not talking about the fekking list. Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Falconeer on May 09, 2006, 08:29:57 AM Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Falconeer on May 09, 2006, 08:32:15 AM T M and the C G You sure the first letter stands for a word different from "The"? Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: schild on May 09, 2006, 08:34:13 AM See. It's not hard. All you have to do is look at your library, find a game that no one has an acronym for and take the first letters out. I mean, really, comeon. The pixel test was brilliant. This? Not so much. I could've made it easier and gone with W M C J or F B o S or even better C S of the F. But it doesn't matter. This wasn't a video game knowledge test. :P That's all I'm saying.
Edit: Falconeer, it doesn't stand for The. There is no The in that title. Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Falconeer on May 09, 2006, 08:39:14 AM . But it doesn't matter. This wasn't a video game knowledge test. :P That's all I'm saying. Agree on that. Wrong title. Just a stupid videogame themed puzzle. I never stated the contrary, save for the topic title. Eek, sorry :) Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Falconeer on May 09, 2006, 08:40:10 AM A friend just told me #25 of the original list:
#25 - The GGS - The Great Giana Sister Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: Falconeer on May 09, 2006, 08:44:02 AM Pixel test you mean this one? http://www.webdomus.it/tao/test_visuale_videogiochi.php
Definitely more interesting, yes. I just noticed it. Title: Re: Videogame knowledge test (could be ultra old) Post by: schild on May 09, 2006, 09:00:34 AM We actually have a thread with this sorta stuff in it in PC Gaming. But you did just manage to find another pixel test. :P
Edit: #11 would make a good avatar. Isn't "number A" Ghost 'n Goblins? darn! |
