Title: Forum problems
Post by: Paelos on April 27, 2006, 11:28:47 AM
I'm getting an issue with my topics on the main forum page not actually reflecting what's going on in the forums. It's like they are never refreshing correctly or something. Is anyone else having this problem? Is it something on my end that I can fix with a clearing of memory or the like? Thanks.

The only problem I've noticed is that the Eve Online subforum will often show as orange even though "show unread posts" shows nothing. I don't go to the top level all that often, though, so it may be happening with other (sub)forums as well and I'm just not noticing it.

There is a reason for this and it's a secret.  Well not really, there is a hidden forum there for the f13 corp members and when they post it marks the forum as having a new post.

I haven't noticed any troubles. Might try clearing your cache and rebooting to see if that clears it up.

Hi, GM Rasix here. Delete any custom interface mods and your WTF and WDB folders and restart.

Remember to switch off your firewall.  After posting your IP address on this forum.

Because that's not completely irresponsible or anything...

(Yes, GM's are telling people to do this....)

I've done everything you said and tried every suggestion here and it still doesn't work.  I can't even post!  It's not my computer.  My computer is perfect and everything on it is perfect and it runs perfectly perfect.  I don't have this trouble with ANY other forum.  I'm tired of forums like you making me pay for a beta.  I want a refund.

Google Adsense is going up. If there are any problems, please post here.

I'm seeing a PSA ad -- you don't want that (no money given for clicks on PSA ads).

Edit: it's also a bit wide and it's turning on my horizontal scroll bar at 1024 x 768 resolution where it didn't before. You might need to shrink down the f13 logo a bit or bump everything down.

I know, we're trying to figure out why. Documentation is...sparse.

It's probably still indexing the content of the forums so it doesn't know what to display yet then. You may want to make sure this feature is turned on so it knows this is a gaming site:

BOO.  Like Righ, I quit.

edit.  Heh I should probably be more constructive.  Anyhow, Could we place the ads at the top, thereby seperating them from the site?  I dunno exactly how to explain.  Also, I hate laptop keyboards. FYI, I evidently have access to the super sekret board now as well.  Ramble ramble ramble, I do.

(Moved from the thread I made)

It's a good idea. I know you admins need money to run this little place, as it's not a charity, but....

Is there a way to filter it or anything? Some very....odd, things are coming up.

- The front page was full of adverts for RMT. Two were for buying SWG credits.

- I'm currently looking at an add for planned parenting. Not sure what to think of that.

Again, I know you need the money, but there's some things that you probably don't need popping up in the ad box.

Also, I'm noticing some lag since the ads have gone up. It could be more, it could be your servers, or it could be the Google ads. Time Will Tell.

EDIT: Also, ads for spying software, and another ad that advertises a way to secretly record IM conversations and steal email passwords. Not Good.

I only found out the forums have Google ads now from this topic since I have Adblock configured to get rid of any google ads. Heh.

Powerleveling services, and an ad soliciting support to keep the phrase "under God" in the National Anthem. lolz

Yup that's just the way it is with Google AdSense. Like much of the Internet it's filled with people trying to make a buck anyway they can. And unfortunately, just like email spam, there are stupid people out there who actually buy these products through the ads so they continue to advertise. If you see something really egregious you can report the ad yourself by clicking on the "Ads by Google" link. As I mentioned in the other thread you started, the site running the ads can filter out advertisers but it's a painful manual process and there are so many of them out there it's a never ending battle (just like spam).

So... Am I the only one who doesn't see the ads? Tried going through the adblocker but could find nothing from F13. Damn yous F13, unblocking ads is teh hard.

What ad blocker are you using with which browser?

Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Rodent on April 28, 2006, 11:24:38 PM
Firefox 1.5.0.2 with Adblock.

Title: Re: Forum problems

Odd. I just loaded the latest dev version of Adblock into Firefox and I'm seeing the ads. Did you try white listing the site? Are you sure you aren't running some other extension or external proxy that might be blocking them?

Title: Re: Forum problems
Post by: Rodent on April 28, 2006, 11:36:26 PM
Whitelisted and still nothing. The only other extrension I have is BBcode. No proxy.

Not a problem, but I was just wondering why EQ2 is highlighted in orange on the main forum page?

[edit] Oops, my bad. Didn't realize there was an unread post there. Thought it had something to do with "This is what Schild is playing...." Heh
