Title: Remember the movie quizzes? Here's a gaming one. 8-bit love.
Post by: schild on April 25, 2006, 01:31:37 PM
Idiot World's 8-Bit Gamer Test (http://8bitgamer.idiotworld.com/)

I got 14 out of 16. But i'm not quite done, one of them is on the tip of my tongue. Also, as with the movie one, try variations on titles if the obvious one doesn't work.

I'm amazed at my own ignorance.

I can't remember the umbrella with eyes, the orange cat-thing with spear, and the balloon guy. The R with wings looks like from that fighter-pilot military game I played in 1988 all the damn time. So a big fat meh on my 7/16. With help from Sauced. I only got 2 on my own (zelda and metroid).

I got 5 out of 16, (had to Google for the name of one guy, even though i reconginsed him, i had never known what game he was from)

I feel i should know the one above the red ninja, and the dinosaur, but cant place them.

Edit: Thanks Voodoo, I KNEW that dinosaur looked familiar, and I instantly placed the metroid one when you mentioned it (shame on me, but I never played metroid)  7 out of 16 now.

Oh, Kenrick.  While the "code" is a decent tip, it doesent help that that code worked on damn near EVERY game ever produced by that company for nintendo.

It was made famous by a specific game.

I recognize many, but am an abject failure at recalling the actual games.

True but the vast majority of people, including myself, remember it specifically for one game... Can't believe I was able to memorize that when I was just 7 years old.  :-D

Reminds me of the pride i felt when i accidently discovered a cheat code i had never come across before in one of the Snes Megaman games.  Was messing around with the second controller while my brother had his turn at a level, and we discovered that pressing a certain combination of buttons (cant for the life of me remember what) on the second controller made it impossible to die from falling into most empty pits.  Was such an awesome feeling, especially cause none of the hint / cheat guides i had read for the game ever mentioned that particular trick.

The button combination was holding down/right (southeast) on the dpad. I used to tape the leg of a heavy chair to a spare controller and play it all the time. And yea, I happened to come across it with a friend also.

And it was Mega Man 2 for the NES.

I got 8, and I can honestly say now looking at the answers that's all I could have ever gotten. The other games I'd never played.

Of course, I probably know more than I should from watching speedruns.

Normally I'd only post to a thread like this if I had done well.  I just wanted to come here and proudly proclaim that while I owned an NES, I scored a 0.  Those icons may just as well have been hieroglyphs.

 :nintendo:

I recognize the dinosaur (Dodongo or something?).  That's about it.

I am too old. I was playing games on home computers and didn't own a console until the Sega Genesis. And that was for Madden and hockey.

My excuse is that Mario (all three) was a gimme, I tried to enter "Adventures of Link" but it stayed red, and there was no Shadowgate icon. As aforementioned, I did get Zelda and Metroid right, and would be ashamed if I hadn't. Contra was the game I played the shit out of (winged R), but I had it confused with 1942 which I was too much privy to at the arcade. But all I really played was Mario (I, II and III), Zelda, Shadowgate and Contra. Oh, and Dr. Mario gave me my first taste of what coming off acid is like (close your eyes and see nothing but pills dropping pills dropping pills dropping and that music oh that god-forsaken music until you want to blow your brains out). It was my first foray into the ass of cat.

My Contra story is a cute one: I used to have a friend that was a boy in 6th grade named Casey Lunsford. Every Tuesday afternoon I had permission to go to his house after school and we would just eat chips and drink pop and play Contra on two-player. He had a really fucked-up grill or I maybe would've had a crush on him. But I think his mom thought we were boyfriend-girlfriend and would always have snacks ready when I came over. That was pretty much the extent of our relationship. We didn't even really hang out at school that much, we just played hell of Contra on Tuesdays.

Like WayAbvPar, I took a different path to ger here. C64>Amiga. I never had a console when I was a kid. My first was the SNES when I was about 18 or 19.

What's a "grill"? Teeth?

Man this was annoying. Took me forever to remember that some of theese titles (Contra is called Probotector here) have different names across the ocean. Slightly scared me that I know them.

Anyways, 10 out fo 16.

Showing the boxes made it too easy. Also, Impossible was more like "Did you play Nintendo when it came out? Remember the ROB?"

Heh. Still good fun.

I did, too, although I only played three of them so I didn't feel too bad about it.

I put in Ghosts 'n Ghouls instead of Goblins. I couldn't remember the name for Wrecking Crew, even though I owned the game.

1500, apparantly... I "suck". I say it cheated though since it wouldn't accept Rush'n'attack as a correct answer.

I got the little Dig Dug guy to get 1. Mainly because I gave my dad one of those five games in a joystick things at Christmas, and Dig Dug was one of them.

I was one of those weird kids with an Intellivision.

1800 gets you Nintendo Geek.

I mispelled Castlevania. I'm not playing again to get 1900.

Says I have 10 of them, but its only 4 I don't actually know.

The Seal, the King Guy, the umbrella, and the Pterodactyl.

Its not an 8 bit quiz.  Its an NES quiz.  No C 64?  No SMS?  No Spectrum?  No Atari, Colecovision, Intellivision, Vectrex?
