Title: proxy.
Post by: Kenrick on April 12, 2006, 05:50:13 AM
Okay here's the deal.  I live in Austin, and I want to watch Astros games, except it seems that there's less of them on TV here this year than in previous years.  I have access to a friend's mlb.tv account, but since I am in the "Houston market" I can't watch the goddamn games on there either due to blackout restrictions.  Now, I know there's a way of getting around that using proxy servers, but I can't for the life of me figure it out.  What I'm asking from you fine ladies and gents is a simple set of instructions that a retard like myself could figure out.  I'm at my wits end.   :sad_panda:

Do a Google on "anonymous proxy" to find lists of proxies which are generally out of date so it may take a bit of poking around to find some good ones. Pick one that looks reasonable and configure the connection/network settings of your browser to use that proxy. If that one doesn't work try another. Or if you have a good friend that has his own Unixy server somewhere outside of Texas you could ask him to setup a Squid proxy for you to connect through.

So I don't have to have any kind of 3rd party program running in the background?

No. All modern browsers have built-in support for proxies but you have to find a working proxy outside of Texas to connect to (or at least outside the Houston area, whatever that means).

Okay so i was basically just making it more complicated than it needs to be.  Thanks.

If anyone does know of a good one to use let me know.  :-D

It would save you time and heartache to just find a good team to root for

Ironically, there's an article on Digg about this. Looking at the comments, it's legit.

250+proxies (http://www.econsultant.com/proxylist/index.html)

The solution is to take a shit into a paper bag and hurl it into whatever they call the new stadium.

Enron Field. Minute Maid Park.

Enron Field. Minute Maid Park.

Corrected sequence was actually:

Enron Field
Astros Field (temporary)
Minute Maid Park

I don't care what it's called -- it's a 10,000x more enjoyable place to watch a baseball than the Astrodome ever was.

And a nice waste of my tax dollars, just like the other two stadiums because the sports teams were jealous of one another and none of them were willing to spend their own friggin' money.

Stupid sports. :mob:
