Title: How gimp is this? Post by: Venkman on March 21, 2006, 07:13:14 AM So of course, new first character and all, I don't get all those fancy attribute thingies. Here's what I ended up with:
5 INT 14 PER 6 CHA 10 WILL 4 MEMORY I've read in some places that sorta sucks. I read this guide (http://forum.arsclan.net/showthread.php?t=8668) and it seems to confirm that. Trouble is, I don't know what "sucks" means. I imagine it has something to do with the rate of learning new skills. For example, if I want to learn Minmatar Frigate Rank (2) Level 3, it's going to take a bit over 11 hours. Gunnery Rank (1) Level 5 is 7 days and some such. Would rerolling radically change those and future skills? And if I rerolled, how do I send my ship over to the new guy? Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Furiously on March 21, 2006, 08:01:52 AM You have made the ultimate fighting skills character. It will take you longer to learn non-combat skills. But you should have no trouble jumping into learning gunnery, and missile skills.
Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Jamiko on March 21, 2006, 08:54:09 AM Attributes affect your training times for skills. Nothing else.
Skill groups and which attributes are typically primary and secondary for them: Drones: Memory / Perception Electronics: Intelligence / Memory Engineering: Intelligence / Memory Gunnery: Perception / Willpower Industry: Memory / Intelligence Leadership: Willpower / Charisma Learning: Memory / Intelligence Mechanic: Intelligence / Memory Missile Launcher Operation: Perception / Willpower Navigation: Intelligence / Perception Science: Intelligence / Memory Social: Charisma / Intelligence Spaceship Command: Perception / Willpower Trade: Willpower / Charisma Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: WayAbvPar on March 21, 2006, 09:04:08 AM I think I would shoot for something a bit more balanced if possible. It seems like INT and MEM are either primary or secondary attributes on A LOT of skills, so that will really slow your training down. I went the opposite with my research alt- she started with 4 Perception. But she is never going to be a combat pilot- her's is a life of mining, researching, and (eventuall) production.
Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Hoax on March 21, 2006, 09:16:00 AM You actually didn't gimp yourself badly at all, would have been better off w/ -1 WP and +1 INT (or -2, +2 if possible forget the exact starting attributes).
Your crazy high perception will allow you to train Missiles/Gunnery/Spaceship Command quickly. The skills you will suffer on are the Electronics/Engineering fitting skills, as well as various armor/shield skills. But considering you are Matar and you Need to train Gunnery & Missiles this might not be a bad thing, I think you should stick with it but make sure you follow the INT/MEM/Learning to IV plan asap to work those skills up a little. In fact if you can suffer through it taking your +INT skill to V and the advanced to IV sooner rather then later wouldn't be a terrible idea. Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Jamiko on March 21, 2006, 09:25:45 AM I don't know how old this character is, but I think you should reroll if you plan to do a variety of things. I'd shoot for something more balanced (but don't worry about CHA in general - leave that low). You'll be ahead of the game pretty quickly unless you've been playing for a few months. I think your low INT and MEM is going to hurt pretty bad in training times, lots of skills are based on those.
Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Hoax on March 21, 2006, 09:35:45 AM If he is going pure combat he can easily spend his first 3 months training only Gunner/Missiles/Spaceship Command (some learning would be advisable as well), throwing in only the fitting skills (engineering/electronics) and not be gimped at all.
After 3 months when its time to train EWAR, Shield or Armor skills (depending on what ship he sees himself flying in the long haul) he can always max his INT/MEM learning (advanced to 3-4) and pick up a +3 implant or two. Can you get better stats? Yes, but I think you made a bigger mistake not getting FrigateIV then you did with stats. Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Furiously on March 21, 2006, 09:43:03 AM Frig IV is a huge help skill point wise. Start you off with like 300K vs 100K. That's a couple days of training.
Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Venkman on March 21, 2006, 10:01:39 AM That was the default template. I did see the "Custom" button, but it never occured to me to click it. Which is fine because I wouldn't have known what I was doing :)
I'm still learning my way here, but one of my goals starting out is to do things like deliveries and protection stuff, eventually hopefully helping y'all out with pirates and maybe players. It's a long road ahead to be sure, but I'm not interested in mining with this character. Thanks for the insights! Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: squirrel on March 21, 2006, 10:02:36 AM Yeah this isn't that gimped, provided you take Analytical Mind and Instant Recall (int/mem learning skills) to boost those stats a bit. Otherwise as has been stated this will be a good combat character who will take a little longer to train EW and secondary skills. My first character was more balanced and I re-rolled to a high perc/will character for combat with int/mem at around 7 so...
Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Venkman on March 21, 2006, 10:04:09 AM Oh, yea, meant to ask. First, thanks for giving me the names of the skills squirrel. But how do I get them? Marketplace?
Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: WayAbvPar on March 21, 2006, 10:16:36 AM Yeah- they should be available very close to where you started out (if not in the same station). If you have already moved to Neesher, Kulu probably has them.
Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Venkman on March 21, 2006, 10:35:02 AM Haven't moved to Neesher yet, but am onto the next Agent, which is four jumps from start. No biggie. I gotta say though, I was very impressed with how quickly those four jumps happened. I remember something like that taking 20 minutes back in the day. I think it was all of like 7 this time. And I'm not like in some sort of crazy ship either.
I've sent some PMs, but heck, I'll just ask straight out: How can I apply to the F13 corp? Is there another forum here about Eve for which I can request access (completely understanding why it's private too, if it exists)? Title: Re: How gimp is this? Applying for the corp can be done by going to a station where the corp has an open office, going to the Corp list in the station screen (it's one of the tabs on the lower-right) and then hitting the 'Apply' button once you find F13 in the list. I'm not sure, but we may still have an open office in Matari space at Onga, which is near Rens, the Matari market hub. Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Morfiend on March 21, 2006, 11:05:16 AM So, between Darniaq and myself, you guys are being flooded with newbie questions.

Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: WayAbvPar on March 21, 2006, 12:28:13 PM Since about New Year's 2006 or so I think. I joined 1.4.06 and it was pretty new then.
Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: TripleDES on March 21, 2006, 02:13:43 PM You need PER and INT for a combat character.
Title: Re: How gimp is this? Post by: Reg on March 21, 2006, 03:49:03 PM If you haven't done it already you should join the F13 chat channel. Hit the "Channels & Mailing Lists" button on the left side of your screen and press the Create/Join button and enter "F13".
