Title: 9Dragons: Thoughts? Post by: SnakeCharmer on March 13, 2006, 06:47:19 PM Read about this over at another website. Looks to be fairly interesting. Can anyone share any non- :nda: info about it? Combat engine (i.e. turn based, FPS, RPS)? Level / skill?
Title: Re: 9Dragons: Thoughts? Post by: schild on March 13, 2006, 06:47:38 PM Huh? Link for anything there, chief?
Here: Legwork. (http://www.9dragonsonline.com/index.asp?PageID=54) Looks like Everquest in Asian clothing. Like uh, Silk Road. Only less stylized. I'm not seeing why anyone would be interested at this point. Edit: Oh, and the name sucks. Title: Re: 9Dragons: Thoughts? Post by: SnakeCharmer on March 13, 2006, 06:50:53 PM http://www.9dragonsgame.com/index.htm <--- Link direct to Akklaims site, not a whole lot of info.
www.mmorpg.com had in interview with Howard Marks (new owner of Akklaim) about it. Decent interview actually, not a bunch of "we promise the world with this MMO!!" grandeur. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/gameId/235/setView/features/loadFeature/493 <---Link to his interview. Martial arts based MMO, during the Ming dynasty. Title: Re: 9Dragons: Thoughts? Post by: schild on March 13, 2006, 06:51:44 PM Gotta be honest. Far, far, FAR more interested in the upcoming Dynasty Warriors Online.
Title: Re: 9Dragons: Thoughts? Post by: Yegolev on March 14, 2006, 10:49:44 AM I can judge this one in three screenshots. Ass. They get points for tits but lose points for shitty environment. And for looking like a PSOne port.
Title: Re: 9Dragons: Thoughts? Post by: Soukyan on March 14, 2006, 10:54:45 AM Yeah. At this point of development, it is looking like EQ1 in terms of world polygons and textures. Characters are low poly also for trying to compete with the new generation of MMOs. At the very least they need to look to doing better textures or finding a unique art direction if they're going to try to pull off the low polygons a la WoW. I don't have a burning desire to test or play the game based on that, but I do have some advice for the developers of the game. Pull those screenshots right now and if you must post pictures related to the game, make them concept art and sketches at least until you are close to a later beta phase and have a better engine rendering to show off.
Title: Re: 9Dragons: Thoughts? Post by: Samwise on March 14, 2006, 11:02:04 AM All right, let's see what we have here.
Quote 9Dragons, the first authentic martial arts MMO set in ancient China. You join as a poor peasant and through training and quests you reach your destiny as a master of the martial arts. KEKEKE GRIND KEKEKE Quote 9Dragons is an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game) - a new generation of computer game where thousands of gamers can inhabit the same world. We heard about this EQ thing and thought we'd try it too! ^^ Quote COMPELLING FEATURES CLANS Each clan has more than 400 unique martial arts styles and over 500 different items of martial arts weaponry. Some clans use unarmed combalt while other focus on weapons mastery or even assasination! Your fists/weapons will glow all sorts of different colors as you execute shitty attack animations! Quote QUESTS Featuring more than 450 various quests, 9Dragons will be adding 20 to 40 quests per month. We plan to implement all sorts of signs that say "MONSTERS THIS WAY". GIVE US MONEY! Quote ANIMATION The animation uses cutting-edge Key-frame animation technology. Players can punch, kick, chop, spin or execute any of the moves they would see in a martial arts movie. KEYFRAMES!!! You hear that, motherfuckers? WATCH OUT, PIXAR! Quote MONSTER A.I. Mobs and monsters run away from superior players, chase inferior players or commit suicide when they get fatally wounded. Some monsters will change their appearance to deceive players. Some use transformation skill to get bigger and stronger. Each and every monster has at least TWO lines of simple scripting to govern its actions! That's right, not one, but TWO! I for one cannot wait for this game. Title: Re: 9Dragons: Thoughts? Post by: Soln on March 14, 2006, 11:37:35 AM too early and feels thin, or at least half-baked, or at least derivative to pretty much everything else. This is the Guy-Who-Bought-Acclaim, right? Dunno what to think. Read an article about it as well, was odd.
Title: Re: 9Dragons: Thoughts? Post by: schild on March 14, 2006, 12:44:18 PM I'd just like to say, this looks like it has more potential to exist than that zombie shit that the other threads about.
Title: Re: 9Dragons: Thoughts? Post by: Samwise on March 14, 2006, 06:00:37 PM Of course it has the potential to exist. But who cares? There is nothing whatsoever to differentiate it from any other shitty Asian MMOG grindfest.
