Title: Whining about lag
Post by: Yegolev on March 06, 2006, 10:52:53 AM
I expected to see some, but no.  I'm not whining.  I am just curious about how things are playing lately.  I might be able to undock tonight or tomorrow night but I'm not sure... knowing the lag is fixed will increase the chances of me giving it a go.

I never whine about lag anymore in MMORPGs, particularly after patch day. I just went and played Kameo heh. They seem to have it sorted out though, saturday it was taking 15 minutes to undock and my character sheet was failing to come up. Depends what system you're in - my new combat pilot was in Kisogo and was unplayable until last night. I was logged on a bit this morning in Neeshar/Imih and it seemed fine.

I had some serious issues with my overview last night- things disappearing, presets not loading, etc. At least one other gang member had similar issues, but others reported no problems. Other than that, I haven't had any problems other than getting stuck on 'roids (God I hope they fix that).

I think this is pilot error.  I have been stuck on my own jetcan before, but I try to fix that shit before anyone else shows up.

I read some of the dev posts and I can believe the lag is due to their monitors and debugging tools, while it was stated that "weird shit" happens when a blade runs out of memory.  I know from experience that odd things happen during low memory or even low disk-space conditions.

Things seem much better today. Yesterday they eventually  found the server side memory leak and this morning they took out all the debug logging that was slowing things down. So far, so good.

Awesome, post and ye shall receive.  Thanks, Reg.

I haven't had any issues since Saturday, but EvE likes my computer (and I like EvE) I never had the journal/wallet open problem and I haven't had any overview issues.

I never had any real trouble either outside the occasional overview corruption, until the recent lag thing.

Things were a bit rough after patch-day for me (wallet-opening bug for about 24 hours), but aside from lag up in Empire and a couple of annoying reboots, it wasn't all that bad. Then again, I stayed mostly down in lowsec, where lag is a rare (yet deadly) beast. Last night was silky smooth aside from several really irritating instances of overview corruption.

I just had one lingering issue (since the big patch I guess) where the Market window would reopen whenever I zoned.  Noticed that last night it had stopped.

Something to try with overview corruption: Collapse the overview listing and re-open it.  Most times, that will clear it up.

Right now, I can login for a few seconds before I get disconnected. I can't even warp out of the system.
I wonder if that is lag related.

I had no unusual problems today, although there were over 20K logged on when I started playing.

I had a bit of lag last night with the marketplace. Nothing onerous, but slower than I am used to. I was in a different region, however, so that likely helped. Not much action in Kor Azor, so the marketplace speeds right along.
