Title: George Clooney at the Oscars: "We are better than you." Post by: Triforcer on March 05, 2006, 10:58:19 PM Anyone else catch this stuff? Way to conform to ever sneering, elitist conservative caricature of Hollywood ever, dumbass. You probably single-handedly won a couple seats for the Repubs in the next set of House elections.
EDIT: And not everything that Hollywood "supported" at the time came to be something that everyone loved and took for granted years later. Communism comes to mind. Title: Re: George Clooney at the Oscars: "We are better than you." Post by: Trippy on March 05, 2006, 11:36:18 PM I'm not even sure this dignifies a response but for those of you wondering what Triforcer's babbling about you can listen to George's acceptance speech here (http://www.pandadesigns.com/misc/George_Clooney_Best_Supporting_Actor.mp3). Skip to the middle if you don't want to hear the whole thing but you'll miss the amusing parts.

They are stellar performances and wonderful work and I'm honored, truly honored to be up here. And finally, I would say that, uh, we are a little bit uh out of touch in in Hollywood every once in a while I think, it's probably a good thing. Perhaps Tri is someone with Quasimodo type features who sits endlessly in his subterranean cave, weeping over pictures of Clooney and what He himself may have looked like if it wasn't for the freak accident of his genetic ruin. Or, considering the aforementioned hawt Asian, possibly not. On that note, however, I just got my first scan of my new baby. He/She is gorgeous and has her/his mothers nose already. At 15 weeks. Kicking and waving for the camera already too. Yeah, yeah, I know, this has fuck all to do with fuckall, but it's not worth a new thread and it may just brighten up this fucking stupid excuse for one. I am proud and happy today and not a single one of you motherfuckers can take that from me. Title: Re: George Clooney at the Oscars: "We are better than you." That little speech was so unoffensive and devoid of content that I think Triforcer woke up this morning with something sharp stuck in his snatch. Well, I wouldn't say completely unoffensive. Not that I was offended, but the last line was a jab at Stewart who berated just Hollywood for being out of touch without a joke to soften the blow. He was probably a bad choice for host, a bit too smart and politically aware. Maybe he made up for it (within hollywood circles) by the endless jew jokes.I had to sit through the first three fucking hours because my girlfriend wanted to watch. Luckily my guitar magazine had just arrived. She actually said, after an hour of the preshow and two hours of the 'ceremonies' "I hate when they pat themselves on the back", referring to the eighteenth montage, iirc. I told her that I hate when I watch Jacques Pepin and he cooks food. Title: Re: George Clooney at the Oscars: "We are better than you." I told her that I hate when I watch Jacques Pepin and he cooks food. I don't forsee Stewart being asked back. Actors take themselves too damn seriously, and after a few jokes some folks looked a touch offended. After the first 'attack ad' using the Republican's Social Security couple, Reese Witherspoon looked mortified that the ad was in favor of her. You're getting paid millions to play dress-up, have a sense of humor about it. Spielberg didn't look amused that first Stewart and then Stiller felt like pointing him out, either. I loved his joke about all the damn montages, though he didn't win any friends with that one either. Overall I thought he was pretty funny, but he seemed nervous as hell, so it threw him off kilter a bit. Title: Re: George Clooney at the Oscars: "We are better than you." Post by: HaemishM on March 06, 2006, 07:59:17 AM Triforcer, do you just HAVE to have some faux sense of Republifag outrage at anything an avowed liberal has to say? Is it just that his roguishly handsome good looks distracted the Asian chick you are currently obsessing over from even noticing you during the Oscars, or am I confusing you with Mediocre? Do ninja lawyers really give this much of a shit what actors think?
He said the Academy noticed a black actress when blacks were still being Jim Crowe-d. This is true and a good thing. He said Hollyweird were activist about AIDS when Ronald Reagan was still ignoring it as a gay disease. This is true and a good thing. The whole goddamn show is a fucking self-referential circle jerk and yet somehow it's a high insult to speak the truth on the show without being offensive? Michael Moore you can get offended at, because not only is he an affront to humanity and free thinking everywhere, he's a fat cunt with a penchant for hyperbolic distortion of the facts just like the people he criticizes. He TRIES to offend. You don't just need to douche that vagina of yours. It's defective, sandy or not. Title: Re: George Clooney at the Oscars: "We are better than you." As to the orginal post, if it must be addressed, one could point out that the very concept of the oscars is so bizarre that Clooney's comments pale into insignificance. What is more remarkable in that people actually want to watch such a grotesque excercise in self-glorification, and that they give a flying fuck what anyone says there. I am quite certain that most people here have said something stupid and self-important at an alcohol fuelled industry get together before now, the only difference is that swathes of idiots listen to George Clooney. The problem is with the swathes of idiots, not with George Clooney. Seriously, average joes are contributing millions of dollars to laud George fucking Clooney in a celebration that Charles Foster Kane would have thought was way over the top. Can you blame the guy for thinking people give a damn about his politics? Title: Re: George Clooney at the Oscars: "We are better than you." I  George Clooney. He is what a movie star is all about- ridiculously good looking, suave, and plays a mirror image of himself in almost every movie. He is just like all the stars of the 40s! The truly offensive part of the Oscars- (http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/spl/hi/pop_ups/06/entertainment_oscar_glamour/img/5.jpg) WHAT. THE. FUCK? The movie: A) Was forumulaic B) Reused the tired "Coincidences abound! Every character will interact with the others in a serendipitous accident and they'll all learn a valuable lesson!" schtick that was old hat when Magnolia did it 7 years ago. C) Repeated the old Hollywood mantra about how we're all horrible bigoted people, and only the brave artistes in LaLa Land have the sensitivity to show us the ugly truth. D) Committed the unpardonable sin; was preachy and cheesy to boot. I repeat, it absolutely sucked. Title: Re: George Clooney at the Oscars: "We are better than you." Salma was HAWT. So was Keira Knightley. Stewart did a good job. 3-6 Mafia were actually in suits and tuxes and stuff when they came in and when they left for the after parties. The only reason they accepted their award all "thugged out" was because they had just done the Pimp number and were caught off guard. Crash was the safest movie they could have gone with of all the movies nominated. That's why it won. Title: Re: George Clooney at the Oscars: "We are better than you." I take it back- Ironwood may be on to something (http://movies.msn.com/movies/hitlist/3-3-06_2?GT1=7701) (link is SFW- just an article). Pertinent passages- Quote She prepared for the role by spending hours in rehearsal and by augmenting her already voluptuous figure by making it a little more "meaty." Quote Fans will be delighted to know Hayek's seductive form is on display in both a nighttime ocean skinny-dipping scene and a passionate love scene with co-star Colin Farrell. While Hayek has gone nude before, the latter scene made her particularly uncomfortable. Farrell's reputation is no secret, but his sensitive manner shattered all of Hayek's preconceived notions. Quote Hayek also has an unexpected compliment for her co-star. She relates how many male actors will just stare at her breasts during the middle of a scene, especially when it's not called for in the script. Post by: jpark on March 08, 2006, 05:17:00 PM Wait. What? I don't know how much more succinctly I can put it. I don't agree mate. Coincidences aboutnd sure - but that's the premise of the film - not unlike a number of Shakespear plays that make use of remarkable similiarity / disguises that allow characters to pass for one another creating new plot elements - not really plausible - but we take it as a given and go from there. For me the take home was that people are complicated. They are often never simply evil or good. Matt Dillon was a guy to despise for his actions in some parts and praise for his actions in others. Simple labels often just do not do most people justice - the message of the film. That may be obvious to most of us on F13 - but for mainstream - unfortanately - it may not be so obvious. I like Clooney. I REALLY like Salma Hayek and watched her walk on on repeat a few times - I like my PVR. I like Ironwood and wish him all the best. It's damn scary but wonderful to be a father (and your wifes breast will be growing*). I never liked Triforcer and this thread is a good enough reason why. *I had to bring that down to the gutter, didn't I? Title: Re: George Clooney at the Oscars: "We are better than you." Post by: Margalis on March 15, 2006, 05:07:12 PM Guys, can you all please stop flaunting your heterosexuality? That isn't appropriate at all. Please don't throw that stuff in my face, I don't want to know who you want to fuck.
Thanks. Your friend, Murgos' arguments brought to a logical conclusion incarnate. |
