Title: Curious about play times.
Post by: Rasix on February 23, 2006, 04:43:05 PM
Due to my wife getting annoyed with raid times in WoW (heh, not willing to damage my marriage over a game), I may be in search of a new MMORPG fix. EVE seems like something I should give a shot (well, another shot).  I tried it once before, liked it if I thought it was a bit slow at times.  Can't remember why I quit, although it was likely for another game.

Now, hearing that (according to Furiously) life sucks without a corp, I was wondering when everyone plays or when the periods of decent activity are with the guild.

Just to put in, I'd probably play at around 10pm AZ time (9 pac currently) for around 2 hours a night.  Would that be enough to really get enough out of Eve? I'd be looking to play a good deal more casual than I am playing WoW.

That might be a touch late for me, but a lot of our guys are just getting on then. I know the guys we are at war with (Blood Inq) are on or getting on about that time, so I tend to stick around until 11-12pm Mountain.

But we also have folks on pretty much all day. Just much more activity in the evenings.

The nice thing about EVE, is that once you get established a bit you can play for 10 mins (do some skill switching, check market orders, etc) or for 2-3 hours or more. My typically play session (when I'm actually playing and not just idle at work) is 1 hour. When there's Blood Inq or pirates to fight that goes up.

Join us!  8-)

We have pretty good activity 9-11pm PST, I am a evening PST player myself so I have no idea outside of those timezones but there are definitely people around at those times.  In fact prior to the whole Blood Inq. war declaration we did some group ops during that timeslot.

As for the 2hrs/day thing, that is why EvE is great.  You dont "need" to play, which makes playing more fun.  I often do some random belt-ratting for 1-3hours waiting to see if anyone needs help or we'll be doing any ops or if there is anything interesting being discussed.  If the answer is no on those counts I just log off whenever I get bored of shredding npc's.  I really need to get a decent solo pvp ship outfitted but unfortunately Amarr's lack of Medium slots really dont lend themselves to that role.

I generally play evenings- as late as midnight PST (1 there in the desert). I have yet to see there be less than 6 or 7 people in the corp channel on at that time. I know Furiously and trotski are both West Coasters as well.

As for play time- you can easily do things to help yourself and/or the corp in short time periods. Running a couple of missions doesn't even take an hour. You can mine a bunch of ore in 2 hours. If you aren't in the mood for a long play session, you can just jump on to adjust your skill training and then go off to do other things.

OTOH, you can put in marathon play sessions in and enjoy yourself as well- mining, ratting, mission running, looking for deals on the market, manufacturing crap to use or sell, etc. It caters well do a number of different play styles.

Bant and Bethal.  I'm one of the few East Coasters in the corp, I think.  You're likely to find me online semi-afk mining at just about any time of day.   Usually more active after 7 PM EST.

Well, as of late my play time has been erratic, or nonexistant. The great thing about EVE is that I don't need to actually play to advance - offline skill training FTW.

I'm EST, so when I do play, it's a weird times compared to everyone else.

Rasix,

I think as you saw last night there is typically some pretty good representation at 9pm PT to 11 or 12 or so.  But start plotting your course for the Neesher system and let the fun and games begin.

Two hours a night is a hell of a lot more time that I can put in.  I am most likely to be on between 2000 and 2300 Pacific.

Yep, looks like a good crowd during the times I play.  It may be a bit before I head out to Neesher.  I want to get a hang for the game before I'm in serious danger of getting podded.  I think I'm going to take this next week to decide on what direciton I want to go in.  Still not sure if I want to go small ship or big.  Leaning toward something than can launch lots and lots of missiles with missiles that in turn launch other missiles which open up to launch even more missiles.

Anyhow, whoever sent me the cash infusion last night, thanks.  I can't remember who exact that was though.  :| I now have a kesterel with some missile launchers.  I have no skills yet, which leaves my outfitting options somewhat slim.

In your Wallet, open Journal tab, filter if you like... you will see who contributed to the cause.

Sorry I've been mostly absent from the corp lately - the nearly 2 week training times that I'm working on make the game a bit less fun in the moment, and having Galatic Civ 2 icon right next to the Eve one doesn't help  :-)

Since my work schedule is pretty damn random, so is my play time.  Hopefully on more next week, finish Frig V tomorrow!

I out of pocket for a few days, need to get access to my new neighbors wireless.  (I just moved and am in the process of getting my utilities moved.)

/agree

Although I haven't really had time for GalCivII or anything else, really.  Other people suck.
