Title: Any Alias fans? Post by: shiznitz on February 23, 2006, 02:02:37 PM Thw wife and I really enjoy TV series on DVD. I have never watched a second of Alias. Is it worth trying? Should I bother with season 1 since these types of shows tend to improve a bit.
For the record, we loved seasons 1-4 of '24' and BSG and Firefly. I don't like CSI or NCIS or any of the police dramas on CBS. Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: MrHat on February 23, 2006, 02:13:12 PM Watch season 1 and 2, they're quite good. After that though...let me put it this way, after watching 4 seasons, I haven't watched any of the recent one.
Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: shiznitz on February 23, 2006, 02:14:01 PM Thanks. Just the kind of feedback I was looking for.
Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: MrHat on February 23, 2006, 02:15:10 PM Since you seem to like the shows that some of the others of us like, try and check out "The Shield" & "The Wire" for a couple of fresh takes on cop dramas.
Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: Rasix on February 23, 2006, 02:34:38 PM You enjoyed season 3 of 24? You may be broken.
Edit: As for Alias, I liked season 1. I think the rest of the series is crap. Last season in particular made me roll my eyes enough to nearly detach my retina. Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: Margalis on February 23, 2006, 03:24:16 PM Alias is like a less addictive, even sillier 24. If you like 24 you may like it. For me all those shows are too eye-rolling for me to stand.
Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: schild on February 23, 2006, 06:38:02 PM I wouldn't even compare it to 24. It was good up until uh, the end of LAST season. This season is balls.
And I loathe Lost. Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: Raging Turtle on February 23, 2006, 07:05:23 PM And I loathe Lost. You're dead to me. /raving fanboi Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: ahoythematey on February 24, 2006, 04:36:13 AM I stopped watching Lost about the time Michael goes after the others while Sawyer flirts with Ultra-bitch in the cannibal crew. Carrot on a stick stuff has to be done just right to really keep me going, and Lost...well, it lost that.
Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: shiznitz on February 24, 2006, 06:24:40 AM And I loathe Lost. Loathe is a strong word but put me in the same boat. Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Carrot on a stick stuff has to be done just right to really keep me going, and Lost...well, it lost that. I stopped watching the EXACT same time. Or an episode later. I hate it now. Btw - I'll watch episode 17 from season 2 some day. It's directed by Darren Aronofsky \o/ Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: schild on February 24, 2006, 10:57:00 AM I stopped watching a few episodes before the end of season 1. It was all just weak sauce to me. For flashbacks to be compelling I have to like the characters. Well, sorry boss, you didn't hire compelling actors. Darren Aronofsky can't even get me to watch more Lost.
Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: HaemishM on February 24, 2006, 11:26:55 AM I have no idea why you guys keep dogging Lost or its actors or writers. I have enjoyed the show from the get go, and the flashbacks too. I actually think they've done a damn good job skating the line between revelation and stringing you along.

Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: schild on February 24, 2006, 12:09:54 PM I would find it hard for people who sat through three or four seasons of Alias to enjoy how they're handling Lost. Can we say one trick pony?
Title: Re: Any Alias fans? Post by: HaemishM on February 24, 2006, 12:15:28 PM I find the character moments in Lost easily as enjoyable as any "over-arching plot" advancement.

I haven't seen the first one, but had considered picking it up on DVD once the producers give up on the idea that I'm going to pay for 2 seperate dvd sets each of which cost about the same as I would normally pay for an entire season of a show. But seriously, they are stuck on an island, you can't be stuck on the same island for more than 17 fricken hours of television. Title: Re: Any Alias fans? You can when the entire show is based on the idea of deus ex machina. |
