Anyone got this service? If so How is it. I travel a lot and it would be sooo nice to be able to crank tunes on one station for the entire trip. I mean its 10 bucks a month that sounds like a pretty good deal and I can get the reciever for under 100 bucks. Opinions?

A buddy of mine has one of the satellite radio services (can't remember which one). He and his wife love it. I don't spend enough time in my car to make it worthwhile, but I would definitely consider it if I had a long commute (mine is about 6 minutes right now =P ).

I mean I spend 4 times that on game subs at the moment one of which I haven't logged into in 2 months.

Does the boom-box have RCA audio-out connectors in the back?  Cause I mean listening in the car is fine, but for listening at home I'd want to listen on a nice home entertainment system with quality speakers, not that crappy $5 alarm-clock-radio looking POS.

Otherwise the idea of being able to get the exact music you like (in my case trance/euro) is nice.

So you mean optical outs, then? :P

My buddy has XM radio, loves it (might be the other one, Sirius or whatever). I've listened to the comedy and blues channel while riding in his truck, they are both pretty cool. No commercials while I was listening, good quality sound. I don't think he has the boomboxy thing. I'd rather have a dock to sit it in, with a bevy of outputs, like ajax wants, instead of the crappy boombox.

Anyone know how close Clear Channel's paws are to the satellite radio biz? I don't think they have their hooks into XM yet (thus Stern's interest), but damn it's only a matter of time imo.

I'm considering getting one of these services. It's either XM or start getting books on CD.  

My commute when I move in a month goes from 30 minutes to just about 45-50 (first time home buyer, yay me).

Remember, your local library probably has books on tape and cd :)

I'd 2nd the books on tape idea. I wish my library had a decent selection of CDs.

I'm planning to get either XM or Sirius when the new Alpine recievers for them come out this summer (I already have an XM-ready receiver in my car).  I've done a little research and I'm leaning towards Sirius, mainly because you can log in and listen to it on your computer as well as in the car.  

This (http://66.246.14.172/phpBB/index.php) forum has people on both sides of the XM vs. Sirius debate and actually has a lot of good information.  This (http://www.xm411.com/phpbb/index.php) is an XM-only forum.  

Of course, there are also the official sites for XM Radio (http://www.xmradio.com/index.jsp) and Sirius (http://www.siriusradio.com).

From what I've read, the services are very similar.  Sirius costs $12.99 a month.  XM costs 9.99 a month.  Neither has commercials.  Sirius has NFL radio, if you care about listening to out of town games.   Sirius offers a lifetime subscription for $499.00.  That means never paying another monthly bill (as long as Sirius exists).  As I wrote earlier in this post, you can log on to Sirius and listen via computer.  That's what has me leaning toward Sirius over XM.

Humm I was looking and I'm leaning towards XM simply because they have that family plan. Wife will want one so I need to get cracking on it.

Wow, being able to use it through the pc would be huge, my home pc is jacked into my audio system.

I'd try to convince a store to "lend" you one for a week or so. Couple people at work have them. Three seem to love it. Two hated it with a passion "It doesn't play when I go through the I-90 tunnel!".
