Title: My EQ2 boxes sit unopened on my desk.
Post by: Shockeye on January 19, 2006, 08:53:07 AM
The more I read about the different classes, the less they appeal to me. I want a class that can solo well enough, be group friendly for those times I don't hate everyone, and promises to have some kind of staying power when PVP is implemented. Is that too much to ask?

Swashbuckler.

This is your class.  You will have stealth ability, nice group buffs, a group stealth, tracking, and lots of firepower (both AOE and single target).

Berserker - combat health regen (group and self), AE attacks (great for groups of 4 no arrow mobs), melee group dps buffs, decent PvP stuns. A high level zerker can stun a PvP opponent for 7 seconds right off the bat with two skills (shield slam and Slay). The single target taunt is a casting interrupt as well.

As with EQ1, a good PvPer always makes generous use of potions. The right potions can make an even fight into a rout and vice versa.

They have not gone into detail on how PvP will work.  I doubt they will just hit a switch and let us all fuck with each other.  Then again I could be wrong, and am often.

Fair enough. My observations come from /dueling and nothing else. I have never played anything but a berserker and I suck at PvP.

You forgot Evac. As both a travel tool and a save your ass tool. Nice to have a 2 second cast time on it. And 15 minute reuse isn't horrible. Also, being a less popular class you have a better chance at getting master spells since the demand isn't as high.

So I've read quite a bit of the EQ2 forums over the last couple days trying to find something in the game that appeals to me enough (besides DoF shineys) to crack open my tin and give this game another try. I still haven't found what appeals to me yet, but I am simply amazed at the lack of hideously stupid on the forums. I guess after the Vault and Blizzard forums I'd forgotten what a well-run game forum was like.

Yeah I remember the whiplash I had logging into the EQ2 boards after the daily pummelling on the SWG boards last year.  It truly is amazing the difference in culture and moderator approach between them.

My third attempt. It's not perfect, as most people that hear me in /gu know, but it's vastly improved from the release state. Hey, I surmounted the 20th level barrier and I'm a real grown-up class now!

Since the Australians whined about having the daily server down time occur during their prime playing hours, I don't get to play with my morning cup of coffee anymore.  That said, I'll get some stuff for you in the guild bank tonight.

Did they give swashbucklers neat hats?

Everyone gets neat hats in the Kingdom of Sky expansion, actually.

Swashbucklers do indeed get a neat hat (left):

I found that image because I was thinking of making a brigand and reading the official board, what do brigands get?  They get to look like the hamburgler (bottom).  I hope these images are fake.

Nerf swashbuckler's hats!

That's some funny shit. Hamburglar indeed.

But yeah, swashbucklers will have an awesome outfit. I'm hoping it'll be construed as just a tad too "faggy" for the l33t kiddies to want to play for otherwise we're in for a Dumas uprising when KoS is released.

On another note, I swear there's a running joke at SOE somewhere about the acronyms for their expansions.

Well, EQ2 is more enjoyable than I remember and it seems SOE is doing a good job with it. However, I just don't have the time to sink into a MMO anymore. There's other things I should be doing with my time and my second experience with EQ2 is at an end.

Well, I thought when the folks here talk about it again, it might have become better, saw the expansion with the original game for 20 Euro and bought it.

The translation is still fucked up and the two DVD version doesn't give me the ability to install the game in English. Fucking die already you Germanophiles!

I still had a bunch of Veteran awards for being an ex-Eq Player and having an Eq2 account in beta. But I can't overcome that shoddy translation work.

A couple of people have used this link:
http://download.station.sony.com/patch/download/eq2/eq2-us.zip
to get the (English) launcher which will download the entire game, of course it takes a long time to get all those gigs.

I think I'm done playing as well.  As someone who spends a lot of time playing solo, these games make or break themselves based on how entertaining the quests are.  EQ2 never seems to rise above FedEx and "kill X amount of Y" quests.  It also doesn't help when you're 25 levels into the game and still fighting wildlife and gnolls.

Started doing the Splitpaw stuff.  Most of the content was Heroic.  More gnolls and assorted critters.  I didn't really see the big deal but then maybe the Heroic stuff cockblocked me from getting to the good part?

Title: Re: My EQ2 boxes sit unopened on my desk.
Post by: Signe on February 02, 2006, 04:14:36 AM
I can understand completely.  The amount of heroic stuff is annoying.  Many times I find, even though I'll be doing a non-heroic quest, that all the mobs I need to complete the quest are heroic linked mobs.  Mostly it just wastes my time because I rarely give in to pick up groups and since I generally play funny times of the day, I don't even have guildies to beg for help.  It's still all good, though... this is the only MMO I have, at the moment, barring beta tests.  (which are beginning to annoy me)  The good bit is, however, that it's inspired me to drag out the PS2 and I have a ton of games that I've never even opened!

Go sit and listen to the Storyteller for a few minutes. He'll give you the Trials of Harclave quest. After that you can do the Hideout (Fitch's Prank quest), followed finally by the solo arena. Hideout and arena you can do as often as you like (barring like a 2 hour lockout) and Harclaves can be done once a level.

Any other quests there will need at least a trio of chars to complete.

Got the Trials of Harclave quest.  Even with that buff you get I have trouble soloing it as a Troubador and since it's solo only I don't even have the option of getting help for that one.  Something tells me they didn't quite balance that quest for all the classes.

Edit:  Oh, and when I fuck up... 8 hour cockblock timer on trying again.  Thanks SOE for telling me how often I can attempt the content I paid an extra 8 bucks for.

Btw, yesterday somebody shouted at me and called me f13 scum. Do we have enemies already and are we the good guys or the bad guys?

Afaik (which isn't far) the splitpaw one is the good one, it's relevant in your twenties, but is pretty empty most of the time.

I want to know the sekret if it concerns me.  I don't generally play nights, you know... just once in a while when there is absolutely nothing else to do and the hubby is working or out of town and I'm bored out of my mind.  Does your "sekret" have anything to do with the server transfer?  I bet that's going to be a buggy event.  I'm sure I'll have X's all around my names.  I'll be lee7!

They rarely ever bring down servers to fix bugs like that, the lack of mail isn't worth stopping people from logging in.  They only do stuff like this if a dupe bug is found. (http://plaguelands.com/?page_id=172)  And with all those tradeskill changes I'm sure there were a few.

Downtime extended to 3 hours... looks like it won't be up til, at least, 1 PM EST.  They've done this before after big updates but not usually on weekends.  Looks like I'll be playing that dreadful Dragon Quest VIII that has me addicted.  Dammit.
