Title: Dissapearing graphics
Post by: NiX on January 03, 2006, 06:46:05 PM
I've been having this problem every so often and so far I've figured out it isn't my RAM or my video card overheating. It only became a huge problem when I started playing EVE. Once and awhile everything will dissapear except for the UI and the 2D space background. Also, in WoW I get tons of artifacting. I'm thinking it might be my video card or its RAM. IS there a program that can check video card RAM and see if it's faulty?

I would check something like Sharky Extreme or Tom's Hardware.

This could possibly be a driver issue (though I think you already tried that...).

It may be inconvienent, but you Could try the card in another rig - it's a pretty definitive test.

I had similiar problems (just more amusing - like huge snowflakes in EVE, or lack of certain textures which made character portrair look like homos). After testing tens of OS/drivers combinations I nailed the cause as mobo&GPU incompability. Trashing ASUS in favor of nvidia based DFI solved the problem.

I'll try googling to see if there's problems with X800 and Biostar. I know my mobo isn't one of the most popular brands, but it didn't have a problem with my 9600XT
