Title: Save my n00b ass... Post by: angry.bob on January 02, 2006, 09:25:17 PM So, after a year of somehow skating by with 3 toons in my server's l33t raiding guild and no one noticing I've never actually grouped with anyone, let alone 'raided' anything, they've instituted a minumum number of raids to attend. I have some questions about the raids if someone could answer, I'd appreciate.
1) Do I need to be "attuned" or whatever to go to Onyxia, or just be with someone who has a key? 2)If Im not there for the first 1 or 2 sessions in MC between resets, can I jump in on day 3 or do I need to be there at the start? Thanks in advance... I could probably find the info eventually, but most raid guides don't seem to be geared towards retards who've never raided before... Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Thanks in advance... I could probably find the info eventually, but most raid guides don't seem to be geared towards retards who've never raided before... You can join in a MC raid whenever you like, but after you kill one boss in that instance you are "saved" to it and cant raid a different one until the timer on that one is up. The timer is 6 days from the first boss kill, not the first one you where at but the first overall boss kill in that instance. Onyxia is a much bigger pain in the ass, the raids are very short usually 20-30 mins if no wipes (your guild sounds like an experienced raid guild so im sure they got that one down) but in order to get in you need to do the onyxia key quet, being with someone with the key is not enough. Took this from my guild website, have fun: 1) Dragonkin Menace (Elite) from Halrendis in Morgan's Vigil, Burning Steppes. 2) Talk to Marshal Maxwell in Morgan's Vigil. 3) Talk to Magistrate Solomon in Lakeshire. 4) Talk to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon in Stormwind. 5) Talk to Magistrate Solomon in Lakeshire. 6) Talk to Marshal Maxwell in Morgan's Vigil. 7) Find Marshal Windsor in Blackrock Depths jail. 8) Return to Maxwell. 9) Find a random "A Crumpled Up Note" drop from a random dwarf in Blackrock Depths. 10) Take said note to Marshal Windsor. 11) Retrieve Marshal Windsor's Lost Information from General Angerforge and Golem Lord Argelmach (two pieces). 12) Escort Marshal Windsor out of Blackrock Depths jail. 13) Meet Marshal Windsor at gates of Stormwind. 14) Escort Marshal Windsor to Stormwind Keep to unveil who Lady Katrana Prestor really is. (Spoiler: Onyxia) 15) Stand way the hell back while Bolvar fights the elite dragons. 16) Travel to Winterspring to find Haleh. Find lots of elite blue dragons and run to the back of the cave, where you'll see a rune on the floor. It's hard to see, so you will die a few times. 17) Haleh tells you to go kill Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire. You will need 15 fairly skilled players for this quest, including yourself. 18) Once you have the "Blood of the Black Dragon Champion", return to Haleh. Drakkisath drops only ONE of these per kill. Yes, one for the entire 15 man group. Not one per person, one per group. (i think this part is wrong, im pretty sure he drops 2-4 bloods per kill) 19) Return to Haleh with the Blood and claim your Drakefire Amulet. My 59 paladin now has his. :) Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: Rasix on January 02, 2006, 11:06:16 PM I doubt bob is dirty alliance. If he is, I'm severely disappointed. Although alliance's Onyxia quest is about 90% less assy than horde's. Nothing quite like a LBRS run, several UBRS raids, and 4 elite dragon fights all over the map. And it's rare to see any upper tier raiding guild in UBRS at all, so you'll likely get no help at all. I had to do two UBRS PUGs to get BWL attuned. Nothing quite like UBRS with 14 random retards. The pain is similar to a pickup Nagafen raid.
Yah, you need to be keyed to do Onyxia, same with needing to be attuned for BWL and MC. I'd suggest doing the BWL attunement at the same time as you do the Onyxia key quest as both end up requiring 86'ing General Drak. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: SurfD on January 03, 2006, 03:52:03 AM Chances are, if you are doing Molten Core, you will also want to be attuned to get in. Fairly simple to do, just requires you to get a group through BRD to the area just after the 7 Dwarves.
Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: Merusk on January 03, 2006, 04:42:25 AM If you're a rogue, you can stealth-run the MC attunement. Had a guildie do it in 45 mins on Saturday. Otherwise, it's a pain in the ass but there's a shortcut you can take by dropping-down near Incendius' area.
You've got a lot of 'work' to do to get any of this shit done. If you really like your guild it'll be worth it. Otherwise, just find a new one because doing all of the stuff you need to just to stop from getting kicked out will drive you to unsubscribe. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: angry.bob on January 03, 2006, 07:15:18 AM Thanks for the info guys. Hopefully it'll be a moot point - the guildmaster announced this morning that they're scheduling ZG for Sundays and Thursdays, and that smelly new Silithus thing for mondays. I'm not sure, but I think you can just go into ZG.
BTW, getting keys, attuned, or whatever is teh ghey. Stop it Devs, just stop it. Even hardcore raiding guilds get sick of helping their members get this shit done over and over again. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: Tebonas on January 03, 2006, 08:05:06 AM The hardcore raiding guilds would hate it more if everybody would run around in those zones wihtout being "entitled" to it by jumping through the same hoops. They just want the hoops to be per guild, not per person.

This seems like what CoV is setting up for, high-end unlockables for Superbases that give you access to special strikeforces.Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Its a VERY logn questline, probably the longest one on the horde. It starts in Kargath from a NPC on top of the tower. The NPC does NOT have a quest indecator. You talk to him several times and he gives you a letter, this letter starts the quest called "Warlords Command". This quest line includes 5 manning LBRS, and running UBRS 3 times. Also killing 4 world dragons. 2) You can join any time. Day 3 would be fine. As long as you are also attunded to MC. But MC attunment is a lot easer than Onyxia key. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: Shockeye on January 03, 2006, 11:03:54 AM Do you need an key and attunement for each time you raid or just once?
Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: Merusk on January 03, 2006, 11:11:46 AM Just once, then you're set. Not a big deal when leveling-up or early on when still aquiring your set gear or running instances for loot, but it's a major pain in the ass to go back and get help from folks who have already done it and want to be doing other things.

Yep, during my time trying the uber guild thing out, I was with a guild of like 50 lvl 60's and I never could get anyone to spend time with me on these quests. At the time, it was all MC or nothing. So, there I sat as a lvl 60 listening to guild chat as they all were grabbing uber lewt and letting us all know about it. Plus, they were putting pressure on me to start attending raids since it was putting stress on the rest of them or something... 2 weeks of that and I quit the guild and decided to never be a part of that crap again. I had weeks of PUG's to look forward to, and that wasn't gonna happen. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: Rasix on January 03, 2006, 11:58:22 AM I had weeks of PUG's to look forward to, and that wasn't gonna happen. There's honestly nothing worse. Try getting BRD pickup groups for fire resist gear. I'm just going to farm cash and play the AH for the rest of what I need. Since not a lot of people do BRD other than newbs and the level to get the quests can be fairly low, the results can be quite aweful. Me: "Guys, I've been here for 2+ hours, we finished that dumb quest you failed twice on, I've got stuff to do. Hell, it took everyone 45 minutes to get here. I'm gonna go, OK? I need to eat and poop, not necessarily in that order." Them: "Common, please help us get to the forge. We can swim through the lava." An hour passes. Me: "Hey, how about you tell me next time there's going to be mobs in the lava so I don't fucking swim into them and die." Tard priest: "I'll rez u! Just 10 more minutes to go, honest!" Priest dies. Druid dies on island surrounded by 4 elite fireguards. Me: 25% hit to armor, portal to town. Bad Monday afternoon. Every once in a while you'll get the BRD pro that's gunning for that one item off emperor, but usually it's almost as bad as an UBRS pickup, just on a smaller scale. Plus everyone wants you to go 30 minutes off in some stupid direction to complete their quest for 2 gold and a gear that's worse than what you can find on the AH for 2 gold. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: bhodi on January 03, 2006, 12:08:26 PM BTW, getting keys, attuned, or whatever is teh ghey. Stop it Devs, just stop it. Even hardcore raiding guilds get sick of helping their members get this shit done over and over again. Oh, you have no idea. You need the blood of the black dragon for the onyxia pendant, well, guess what, he only used to drop *2* (3?) of them. That meant for each person attuned you got to run UBRS to the end for every two people in your raid. Yeah, that was a lot of fun. They upped it to 3-5 per run a while back, fortunately. It's STILL a pain in the ass. I was fairly lucky; I joined a mostly-60s raiding guild that wasn't hardcore and was doing all the blackrock, scholomace, and stratholme instances. I got tuned with them, and then when they disbanded a few of the more cattassy members and I froggered up to a higher end raiding guild that was doing MC. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: Morfiend on January 03, 2006, 01:21:05 PM Just a quick aside.
My guild used to be PVP with some PVE thrown in. The battlegrounds could not support a guild of our size in intrests. We ended up doing more and more PVE. Now we are primaraly a raiding guild. We have around 100 lvl 60 characters. We have cleared all of ZG in one run (including Hexxar) we can also clear all of MC in one run (including Rag) both take us around 5-6 hours. We are now starting to work on BWL. Having a life and a GF I some times have trouble finding time to raid on the week nights, but I managed to attend one raid a week or so. Plus Onyxia. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... Post by: Xanthippe on January 03, 2006, 03:54:35 PM I rejoined old friends (a lot of them) who have an large guild on a big server. I have no idea if I'll even be doing much of this end game raiding or not but at least there are always people doing things. Plus I suffer from alt-itis, so I might just keep rolling alts.
While I was gone someone took over my shirt business. Guess I'll be making shardbags for awhile or whatever they're called. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... And questing to get into the next zone to level in doesn't suck at all, right? Raiding isn't fun. It's a clusterfuck of players pounding on a couple boss mobs without enough loot to go around. To have to do that much work just to raid and COMPETE at the highest levels is one of the lamest game mechanics I've ever heard. It makes me think Blizzard believes raids are fun and you should have to work to go on them. When in reality they're not fun and they're nothing more than a pain in the ass. Especially when they have to be repeated to eventually MAYBE get the loot you want. Meh. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass... I am not a huge fan of MC, but I enjoy the hell out of the Onyxia fight, and also BWL. Its a whole different game (as many of you have pointed out), just because you dont like raiding, doesnt mean that no one else does also. Dont right raiding in WoW can be pretty fun. I was always a big PVP guys, but I have found myself enjoying raiding more and more lately. As to the Onyxia keychain being the worst thing about MMOGs. I personally enjoy UBRS, so running it 3 times is nothing to me. Also, killing dragons is pretty fun, so hunting down and killing 4 dragons out in the world was pretty cool for me. The only part that sucked for me was running LBRS, but as a rogue, I just ninja'd it with 3 others rogues and a druid. Took us 45 minutes. I think by now we get it. You dont like WoW. Good for you. Dont play it. For us that do enjoy WoW, and the end game. The constant uninformed bashing is getting a tad old. Title: Re: Save my n00b ass...
