Title: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Shockeye on December 29, 2005, 05:03:57 PM Quote from: E-Release Press Release (http://www.ereleases.com/pr/20051228005.html) Infinium to Launch Phantom Lapboard SEATTLE, Washington, Dec. 28, 2005 -- CEO and President of Infinium Labs Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: IFLB) Greg Koler has announced Infinium Labs will be launching the Phantom Lapboard in Q-2 of 2006. The Lapboard is a bespoke wireless keyboard and mouse designed specifically for PC Gamers. Amongst the features it boasts are a 360-degree rotating keyboard for either left or right-handed players, under the keyboard is the lapboard for the mouse that allows gamers to play from their armchairs - within a 30 foot radius of their PC. This layout allows users to keep both hands closer together when using the mouse and keyboard. Optimised for gaming and media access the Lapboard has full size keys, extended space bar and an inverted 'T' for both left and right-handed players to navigate through games. The Lapboard will have U.S. and international compliance for distribution in Europe and Asia. "Where consoles have always scored over the PC games has been in the physical interface the user has with the game. Our Lapboard changes all that. PC Gamers can get a premium peripheral that enhances the gaming experience considerably. It's also the perfect stepping stone and bridges the subsequent launch of the full service further down the line. The required $ USD 2 million round of funding for the Phantom Lapboard is a necessary step to deliver our vision for our products and services quickly into the market, positioned for both consumer and OEM segments, and book revenues by June 2006," said Greg Koler. Whilst final pricing has yet to be set for the Phantom Lapboard, Infinium Labs will launch the product through direct over the internet strategic e-commerce sites with viral marketing, advertising campaigns and trade events to support the new Lapboard. About Infinium Labs Infinium Labs (OTC Bulletin Board: IFLB) is in development of The Phantom Game Service, anticipated to be the first end-to-end, on-demand game service for delivery to the living room. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Samwise on December 29, 2005, 05:05:05 PM The reaction of every single person who has seen the Phantom demo, myself included, has been "screw the Phantom, I just want that keyboard." I guess Infinium got wind of that.

Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Yoru on December 29, 2005, 05:31:49 PM It's taking them another $2m, on top of everything they've already burned, to make a conjoined, wireless keyboard/mouse with a funny-shaped base?
And I thought defense contractors were wasteful... Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Sairon on December 29, 2005, 05:36:20 PM Poor sods who bought stocks in the company at introduction http://www.phantom.net/investors/news_watch.asp?qm_page=83972.
Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: MrHat on December 29, 2005, 07:58:02 PM So wait, this is being released for PC?
Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: NiX on December 29, 2005, 08:22:31 PM I saw the Phantom 2 years ago at E3 and I'll second the notion: Fuck the system, but the keyboard is so damn nice. It does feel good while being used.
Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: schild on December 30, 2005, 12:10:48 AM I wonder where I'll be able to buy it. Here's a big screenshot for those of you that don't know what you're missing:
Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Sky on December 30, 2005, 09:48:13 AM I'm part of the target market. I think it's stupid. The mouse under the keyboard which is on a funny angle? Puhlease. It's also a wired mouse meaning I can't just use it for playing Eve. And the keyboard doesn't have media keys.
Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: HaemishM on December 30, 2005, 10:31:19 AM Good. Though I wish it had a set of number keys. And I wish it worked with the X-Box, since that's what I'd really like to play on my couch with a keyboard and mouse. But then that'd be competing with their competition.
Yeah, I know, I had to laugh at that statement too. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: SurfD on December 30, 2005, 12:20:00 PM i think the mouse (though wired) plugs into the Keyboard, which then wirelessly connects to your PC. Could be wrong tho.
I would still rather have a Logitech DiNovo set tho. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Evil Elvis on December 30, 2005, 12:43:02 PM You just know this thing is going to be overpriced by a rediculous amount.
Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: NiX on December 30, 2005, 12:46:25 PM I'm part of the target market. I think it's stupid. The mouse under the keyboard which is on a funny angle? Puhlease. It's also a wired mouse meaning I can't just use it for playing Eve. And the keyboard doesn't have media keys. That's the original board. From what I can tell the article says they're putting more money into developing it for the PC. I'm pretty sure they'd add more buttons. And the angle/mouse being under doesn't feel awkward. You have to actually play with it to see what I mean. At first everyone was skeptical about the mouse/keyboard, but once we got to sit down with it you wanted to walk away with it. Most of the questions asked to the Phantom reps was whether or not we could buy the keyboard/mouse. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Strazos on December 30, 2005, 03:18:03 PM Now that I think about it, that might be very comfortable - allows you to keep your hands inside shoulder-width, instead of spreading out on a "regular" KB/Mouse setup.
Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: NiX on December 30, 2005, 05:31:09 PM I recall the guy saying something about it being egonomic and it fits the way you should have your hands/arms when using such a setup. if this is going to come out within the next couple months I'll just hold out on buying a new keyboard/mouse until then. I don't need a fancy DiNovo setup and I like to kick my legs up when I play games, having to lean a bit forward to get to my keyboard/mouse hinders this.
Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Shockeye on December 30, 2005, 05:32:24 PM No idea when it's coming out. Maybe they'll have it out or at least the final design on hand at E3. If they'll be at E3. If they're allowed in to E3.

No. We saw it coming, so should they. Fuck 'em! And I don't see any reason to pick this over any of the many Media Center keyboards out or on the way - only cool feature is the intewgrated mousemat. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Samwise on January 02, 2006, 12:07:19 AM The integrated mousemat is pretty much the whole point. The idea is to be able to play PC games on your couch, including the use of a mouse, without needing to Macgyver something out of a pillow, a book, and a piece of chewing gum.
Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Typhon on January 02, 2006, 05:54:17 AM So, six months after this is released (and does modestly well) another company (Logitech) releases a wireless usb keyboard/mouse holder that has the same form factor but lets you use any keyboard/mouse (clamps the keyboard in place) with molded plastic underneath that sits nicely on your lap.
Oh yeah, and it will have a drink holder as well. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: schild on January 02, 2006, 06:04:24 AM So, six months after this is released (and does modestly well) another company (Logitech) releases a wireless usb keyboard/mouse holder that has the same form factor but lets you use any keyboard/mouse (clamps the keyboard in place) with molded plastic underneath that sits nicely on your lap. Oh yeah, and it will have a drink holder as well. Logitech will not release something that lets you use a keyboard or mouse that isn't a logitech keyboard or mouse. That's just not their style. Smart money points to Saitek releasing something like that. Or, ideally, Razer. One of those 2 companies had best get on the Sony PS3 bandwagon since it's supposed to let you use any usb keyboard/mouse with it (again, preferably Razer, their mouse is actually better than other mice for gaming while Saitek's keyboard is just shaped silly-like and not as good as a model M). Someone, ANYONE, needs to recreate the model M. Goddamn IBM. You'd think a designer at one of the keyboard manufacturers would say - "Man, those quiet key keyboards are assy, we need some buckling spring action." But noooooooooooooooo, they keep pumping out this shit that's slowly become laptop keyboards with big fat buttons. Fuck that noise. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: MrHat on January 02, 2006, 06:54:20 AM The Copperhead sucks ass.
The Diamondback is love though. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Bunk on January 02, 2006, 11:22:12 AM Well, I admit Sky's influence rubbed off on me and I am now happily playing WoW from my couch on my 51" TV. (Though I don't know what I'm going to do about Civ 4 yet...) Would I be interested in an option for the wireless combo that works better from my lap? Sure. I'm not convinced that this it it though.
No keypad? - no good. Mouse in front of the kb? Even worse. Hopefully they spend the $2Million on improvements. For now I'll stick with the keyboard on the lap and the mouse on a book beside me. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Morfiend on January 02, 2006, 12:14:59 PM The Copperhead sucks ass. The Diamondback is love though. Not enough buttons. MX518. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Hanzii on January 02, 2006, 01:26:44 PM The Copperhead is nice.
But the G5 and G7 are better - I use the G5 because of the nice colour. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Morfiend on January 02, 2006, 03:54:47 PM The Copperhead is nice. But the G5 and G7 are better - I use the G5 because of the nice colour. I wanted to get a G5, but then I saw they removed one of the thumb buttons. I love having two buttons for my thumb. Dont think I could play with only one now. Hell, I wish they had 4. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: schild on January 02, 2006, 03:55:31 PM The Razer Diamondback has 2 thumb buttons. And none of those annoying buttons below the scroll wheel.
Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Hoax on January 03, 2006, 11:51:15 AM I  Razer, I have the green/black one with 2 thumb buttons and two pinky buttons although if there is a person who actually uses the pinky buttons I'd like to meet them, I mean two of them? There is no way my pinky can be trained to do anything other then wildly mash in the general area of the tiny buttons.

Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Nazrat on January 09, 2006, 05:05:26 AM Is it wireless? How much?
I like the look of that one. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: schild on January 09, 2006, 05:07:23 AM They say less than a good cell phone. I don't know if it's wireless. I hope it is.

I mean comeon, it's a keyboard with a bunch of LCD screens on it. Do you expect them to just give it away? Don't start acting like you've lived a hard knock life again. The page I got that from does say GOOD cell phone, not a shitty but blinged out $200 one. You get what you pay for. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Strazos on January 10, 2006, 07:42:47 PM Remember, I'm the guy who refuses to upgrade cellphones, because I don't get the point.
"Hey, your account has a phone upgrade option on it." "Oh...is it free?" "No." "Oh....nevermind then." My phone still works, still saves contacts, and can call all the same numbers your phone can. I will not spend more on a damn phone than I do for car or PC components. Unfortunately, I think I will have to say the same about this extremely cool keyboard. Oh well, back to pwning bitches with a basic Logitech combo. PS: It's wired too, Sky. I bet that would drive you to go play in traffic or something. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: schild on January 10, 2006, 09:31:56 PM I don't want that keyboard for pwning bitches. I'll still use my Model M for games. It's essentially still Just a keyboard, with a few extra keys I would never use, and pretty buttons that would change their face if I needed them to. Pretty? Yes. Would I like to have one? Yes. Am I going to spend a few hundred dollars on one when I need that money for other shit? No. :| Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Sky on January 11, 2006, 06:54:13 AM Quote PS: It's wired too, Sky. I bet that would drive you to go play in traffic or something. I don't dislike wired products, I actually prefer them because they don't eat batteries. I require wireless products because of my setup. My phone is wired, I don't have a cell phone. I'm not a gadget guy. As I said in the remote control thread, I've got a lot of things on my list for products in the couple hundred dollar price range, from a hard disk recorded for my music to a travel guitar to woodworking tools. And a mortgage downpayment account that trumps all that shit. I pretty much buy nothing these days. As you said, the stuff I have works. That's all I care about. Quote So by the way dumbfuck kids buy cellphones now....like $200? sigh Get a clue. We can tell you're broke. Calling kids dumbfucks for buying $200 phones is just deluded. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: MrHat on January 11, 2006, 10:23:18 AM It's less about being broke, and more about being frugal.
For instance, if he had more money, one of these might be cooler and more must have, but since there's other things he'd rather buy (food, mortgage, car, woman), he can't spend the money on this thing. I'm with schild on this, accept the keyboard for being cool, say you'd like one if you had more money, instead of claiming all of us idiots for having disposable incomes. Title: Re: Infinium threatening to release something. For reals. Post by: Furiously on January 11, 2006, 10:41:25 AM Call me strange, but I would have an issue buying anything from this company.

And it's not even about being frugal or (lol) cheap. I won't spend that kind of money on a keyboard, but I will spend that much (and more) on my car, or PC, or skiing, or hockey tickets....My not wanting to buy this has nothing to do with the amount of money I have to burn. That news could be: Sorry, but our cool idea is too expensive to put into production, no established companies will make what is essentially a very expensive niche product and we, a poor unknown Russian design firm, can't do it ourselves. We apologize to all our fanboys. ... and I'd buy one (who am I kidding - I'd get one for free). I just don't expect to see it in production in the forseeable future.
