Title: Quake 4 Post by: Strazos on December 18, 2005, 10:32:05 PM I didn't notice a thread on it.
Been playing the demo, and even though I do not plan on purchasing the game, it's good - better than the previous entry in the series, I believe. One thing though....is it just me, or does this just look like the Doom3 engine? Anyway, I still think it's fun, even with the lag because of the demo servers. I CAN SEE THROUGH YOUR SHOW OF FALSE HUMBLENESS.
Of course winning makes games more fun. Multiplayer in Quake IV sucks, I challenge your recommendation. Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: Strazos on December 18, 2005, 10:59:57 PM Well, yeah I wanted to post the shot, but I couldn't just post the shot. I think I did ok for having less time. I never said anything about being humble when it comes to gaming.
But anyway...you're wrong. Quake4 multiplay is perfectly fine. What, is it too fast for you? Cry some more nub. But seriously, it's not fun enough for me to actually recommend buying. I'll just stick with the demo until no one else is playing. Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: stray on December 18, 2005, 11:43:28 PM So does this mean the question on the Doom 3 engine was a worthless one?
Is there anything that you wanted to discuss or have an answer to in that first post? Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: schild on December 19, 2005, 12:01:45 AM Death Dealer would have whooped the shit out of everyone if he'd been in the game more than 7 minutes.
Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: ahoythematey on December 19, 2005, 03:16:33 AM Quake IV will be worth my money the moment a Team Fortress mod is released for it; Quake3Fortress was the shit.
Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: Yegolev on December 19, 2005, 09:18:00 AM Too much orange. I'll wait for someone who can design something to license the engine.

Is there anything that you wanted to discuss or have an answer to in that first post? No, it wasn't a worthless question: after playing both, I just feel like it's the same engine - Is it? Overall, I just feel that while the game is good, it's "more of the same," but slightly better than before. Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: Abel on December 19, 2005, 11:51:15 AM QIV indeed uses the Doom III engine. Once the next big thing in engine land, but after we've all seen HL2's engine (among others) at work not so much so anymore.
I'm curious as how the netcode is in QIV, as that doomed Doom III multiplayer beyond simple deathmatch I believe. Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: Strazos on December 19, 2005, 12:33:20 PM it seemed fine - simple server browser that works.
It gets a bit laggy at times, but I chalk that up to playing on demo servers. Is there anything that you wanted to discuss or have an answer to in that first post? No, it wasn't a worthless question: after playing both, I just feel like it's the same engine - Is it? Yes, only with less dark. Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: Strazos on December 19, 2005, 02:44:09 PM Death Dealer would have whooped the shit out of everyone if he'd been in the game more than 7 minutes. I would have won quicker if I didn't get stints of time where I either could not find anyone to kill, or I was repeatedly spawning right in front of someone with a rocket launcher. Winning with quad damage on always feels good though. Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: Hoax on December 19, 2005, 02:53:16 PM Deathdealer > Strazos
Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: Yegolev on December 19, 2005, 08:09:42 PM Winning with quad damage on always feels good though. Not as good as cold-cocking someone with a propane tank. Or whatever piece of debris is handy. I know HL2 is new to me, but those toilet-bowl kills really make me smile. Quake can jump up my ass. Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: Strazos on December 19, 2005, 08:13:41 PM Yeah, throwing shelving units at people was pretty pimp.
Title: Re: Quake 4 Post by: HaemishM on December 22, 2005, 08:04:21 AM I played the Quake 4 demo last night, just to see how my rig would handle it. My rig handled it ok, not stellar, but well enough.
As for the game? Boring, mediocre shite. It felt like Aliens vs. Predator (EXCEPT WITH SHINEY!). The AI was retarded, consisting of the mobs jumping out of whatever scripted hole they were in, jumping from one side to the other like Mexican jumping beans and that was about it. The engine was decent, but no better than F.E.A.R. The multiplayer was worse than Quake 3. None of the weapons felt particularly powerful (and yes, I SUCK), and were graphically uninspiring. |
