Title: The keyboard thread
Post by: raydeen on December 17, 2005, 06:30:47 AM
I was feeling left out because I can't play guitar (well, shitty guitar at best) and keys and drums are my main 'ting. Below is my early Christmas present to myself.

I went in to the local Sam Ash to look at a Microkorg, but this thing was sitting there, all used and the last of it's breed, saying 'Take me home for $549'. I did, and I'm in love. Great analog sound and a heck of a vocoder. Spent the first two hours working out Funkytown.

My rig now consists of the Korg MS2000B (above), Korg Poly 6, Moog Opus 3, Ensoniq KS-32 and EPS, Roland JX-8P, Casio CZ 101, Simmons SDS 400, and several drum machines and effects racks along with the laptop running Cakewalk Project 5 and quite a few soft synths. Now all I need is Time. AND I SHALL RULE THE WOOOOOOOORLD!!!! (best interpreted with the voice of Simon Bar Sinister).

Eh, 5 years from now I'll still be playing Funkytown for myself and drooling like an idiot in the darkness of my room. Wife and kid will be long gone.

I mess with soft synths, but not as much as I used to. And at the moment, I don't have a decent controller anyways.

I've pretty much acquired all of my dream equipment as far as guitars go (yeah right...), and after I purchase some new mics, I'll probably mess with software again.

Definitely wouldn't buy keyboards though. Software flexibility spoils, and at a much cheaper price. About the only real/hard version of a key instrument I want is an upright.

[edit] Good luck on the "time" thing though. That's nice set of gear you have...Hope it's not collecting dust!

An upright is on my list, as well. I'm pretty crappy on keyboards, but my girlfriend used to play a lot and I want to encourage her (and I play a lot of songs that require keys). When I was guitar shopping, she shopped keyboards but hates all the electric ones. All of them. I tend to agree, there's nothing like mechanical action, I grew up under my grandmother's keyboard, with my hippy uncle playing lots of Doors and Zep.

I would go for a vibrophone or a mellotron, though!
