Title: Unemployment Bad
Post by: Strazos on December 12, 2005, 04:40:05 PM
I guess it is news, technically, and it's certainly useless:

I'm unemployed now, so I have to find work in Jan. so I have some kind of income until I get back into school (fall, hopefully).

EDIT:  I'm really gonna miss easy, do-nothing jobs.

Bah, there's millions of easy do-nothing jobs. You just don't know that that's what they are until you are in the position.

It might take awhile, but try to find a job that will work with your school schedule. That way you can keep the same job and work part time while still going to school. Bigger companies are much more flexible with schedule and part-time vs full-time than smaller companies.

Well, the thing is, I'm not really qualified for any "real" jobs. What I am going to try and do is sub teach until June, when I plan on taking a month in China. I might supplement this with some limited retail work. I'm not really looking for a long-term job.

But once I start going to school again, if I work at all, it will be another campus job.

Being a TA could be...interesting.

Remember, just because you're the same age as your teacher's students, that doesn't mean you won't be sexually harrassing them when you ask them out.

Actually, my experience as a grad school TA was that my students tended to proposition me, rather than vice versa.

I had two awesome student jobs my senior year. I worked for my advisor/primary prof in her molecular botany lab doing DNA stuff with irises and mistletoe, and I had a job in the math department grading quizzes for my stats teacher (after she was my teacher). The former was really fun, paid well (considering) and was actually a resume builder. The latter was super easy and I could work from home, while watching tv. Plus, I got off on the power.  You prolly won't hafta work at the bookstore or campus Taco Bell if you ask around.

p.s. you know you're bad at cheating if some undergrad grading your quiz can figure it out by looking at your answers.
