Post by: schild on November 28, 2005, 01:42:03 PM Spam assassin grabs all this shit. I'll get zero. But tomorrow I'll log into my spam folder and count them for you.
Title: Re: You visit illegal websites! Post by: Sky on November 28, 2005, 01:44:48 PM I'm confused. The CIA is making Paris Hilton videos available for download? Cool!
Title: Re: You visit illegal websites! Post by: HaemishM on November 28, 2005, 01:47:39 PM I got a ton of these from the CIA and FBI in one of my email addresses, but I never opened them. It was like 20 messages, all with 75k attachments from CIA, FBI and other non-government type addresses. I didn't open any of them enough to read them though.
Title: Re: You visit illegal websites! Post by: Signe on November 28, 2005, 01:56:56 PM I haven't received any... but of course, I'm a good girl. :-D
Haemish will thwart their nefarious efforts by not responding to the fishermen's bait. They will eventually assplode, I'm sure. Title: Re: You visit illegal websites! Post by: voodoolily on November 28, 2005, 02:14:45 PM I got a terrifying one today from PayPal saying that my account will be billed $400 for a purchase that I didn't make. I went to their website and read the 'fraudulent email' section and since the email had been addressed "Dear PayPal Member" I realized it was a fake. Looked real, though. Scary.
Title: Re: You visit illegal websites! Post by: Bunk on November 28, 2005, 02:20:05 PM My entire office has been getting flooded by these for a week. I've deleted about ten since I posted this topic. The network virus scanner strips out the attachments, but I still have the pain in the ass of marking them looked at in Outlook and deleting them.
Title: Re: You visit illegal websites! Post by: kaid on November 29, 2005, 06:30:46 AM That I believe is one of the messages generated by some of the 15 or so new varients of the sober virus over the last couple weeks.

They simply don't listen, I kinda chuckle now. Reason #403 I don't work on computers outside my job.
I told them either it was spam...or the CIA is investigating them. Hey, gotta have fun. Title: Re: You visit illegal websites! Post by: kaid on November 29, 2005, 09:34:28 AM The really funny things I have seen since I handle a lot of the false positive checks for email at my company is that I have seen about 20 of these forwarded because the users thought they were false positives.
Come on people it looks like spam the spam checker caught it as spam for christs sake don't be dumb. kaid Title: Re: You visit illegal websites! Post by: Yegolev on November 30, 2005, 02:17:23 PM Only one so far at the work address. Our spam filter has been getting lazy, though. I don't worry about virii in my email, we have a whole team of MSCE geniuses who do that for me. I just worry about the AIX virii we get from IBM and Oracle.
Title: Re: You visit illegal websites! Post by: Kenrick on December 01, 2005, 05:03:36 AM I got a ton of these from the CIA and FBI in one of my email addresses, but I never opened them. It was like 20 messages, all with 75k attachments from CIA, FBI and other non-government type addresses. I didn't open any of them enough to read them though. That's odd that you mentioned something about 75k attachments... over the past couple weeks on my yahoo account I've been suddenly getting a steady stream of random spam, all with a 75k attachment. None of them mentioned anything about the cia or fbi though. I'm pretty careful about avoiding spam-causing behavior, so I'm just trying to figure out why the hell this onslaught came out of nowhere. :? Title: Re: You visit illegal websites! Post by: Bunk on December 01, 2005, 09:02:55 AM It appears to all be the latest run of the Sober virus. I've had about 15 versions of it this week come in, everything from Paris Hilton topics, to here's your password, to "I just changed my email".
Not sure about the attachment size, none of the attachments have made it past the office scanner. |
