I don't think it's coming out.

I'm calling shenannigans.

Call of Cthulhu Actually Exists (http://www.shacknews.com/)
Those of you who have followed Headfirst Productions' Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth are aware of the myriad delays that have befallen the long-awaited action/adventure title based on the writing of H.P. Lovecraft. In development since 1999, the PC version of the game was originally set for release in 2001 but was pushed back repeatedly. Well, the wait is finally over, as Dark Corners of the Earth will be shipping this week for Xbox. It appears that PC and PS2 versions of the game are no longer set for release, so if you need your dose of impending soul-crushing Lovecraftian horror, now's the time.

Meh, if it's not too much shooting, I'll play it.

I stand by my sadf.  Fuckers.  I hate FPS-type games on consoles.  HATE.  Even the unwholesome allure of a Lovecraft license doesn't overpower the hatred.

I don't have a problem with a first-person game if i don't have to frenetically shoot at everything on the screen every two seconds.

I just never liked the little nubby analog joysticks, period.  Being forced to use one in order to do something as basic as move my head grates on me.  Even if there's not a lot of combat, I don't want it to be a big ordeal to just look around a room.

Of course, I could just suck it up and practice with the damn thing until it felt almost as natural as a mouse, but then the terrorists would win.

Stupid non-PC-porting... BLARGH!

Thumbsticks suck for precise and fast aiming. Period. I don't know why it's even an issue anymore. Like in the BF PSP thread, I'd really like to see a good cross-platform game, just to crush some people who feel otherwise (and I'm not that good at fps). Having eight fingers basically holding the control device is funny imo. I prefer to use them AND my thumbs. Bah.

...unless you are a PC gamer, or have a PS2. Fuckwads.

They make women that you can play FPSes on now?  That might be worth it then.

There is something about this that is true but I just haven't ever been able to put my finger on it...

I didn't mean to derail this into "that kind" of thread again, I'm just bored and there's not a lot going on here lately.

I personally prefer the console controls over a keyboard, but that's mostly because I don't hafta keep an eye on where my hands go, and I don't have to have one uncomfortably outstretched arm for the mouse. Homerow is a lot smaller without all those dang keys in the way. I don't see why they wouldn't make CoC like Eternal Darkness (regarding which "person" it's shot in). ED did such a good job of being Lovecraftian that I still kinda think of it as "the Lovecraft Game". It'd be nice to see more horror games with a third-person camera, instead of FPS-style, don't-know-the-enemy's-coming-until-your-screen-flashes-red kinda shit. That's pretty much why I dislike FPS. Even just being able to switch back and forth (Like Metroid Prime) would be nice.

Eurogamer likes it (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=61403).

Lovecraft, much like Tolkiien, suffers from too "stylized" language. I assume the game, being a child of 3D graphics, does not. :)

Lovecraft is an antiquarian hack.  Plus he was a bad person.

Fargull gave us a quick review of his experience with the game after 6 hours of play. (http://www.f13.net/index2.php?subaction=showfull&id=1131071605&archive=&start_from=&ucat=2&)

Robert E Howard was pretty disturbed as well, but, like Lovecraft, his failings were a large part of what made his work a unique vision, and also one reason why imitations tend to fall short of the original.

I started playing this last night. It's definately atmospheric. They did a good job with that. The camera filters and lighting however they did an awful job with. I couldn't find my way out of a room so I turned the gamma all the way up and I was standing right in front of a fucking door. Woot. Gamma got left up. Also, people are really strange looking in Innsmouth.  :|

Someone should die for this. CoC was one of the games I was really looking forward to playing.

PC release of this title would be pointless; it will be just another botched console abortion. Like re-release of Bard's Tale that I picked up short while ago not knowing it’s an Xbox port. I won’t even mention DX2… *frothing*

Except for those of us without XBoxen.  Maybe I can make Astorax buy it and let me play it on his.

Further adventures.

I think after playing it a bit further, I have went through several of the (you must do it right the first time or DIE!) moments and have to restart at the last auto save and try again.  The biggest problem with the mechanic is it really really breaks immersion in the game.  Some parts have been just magic, heart pounding bits (mainly the sound effects); but when they make me do the jump turn, jump, turn, dance, jump, backflip shit or die[/color], it just kills the game.

Rental yes.  Purchase, not really.

Report from my friend who has been looking for this for some time: having to do things in an exact order, determined by trial and error, is not fun.  Also, apparently he fucking hates Innsmouth.  Something about fishermen.

[edit] Spellng is hrad.

This is what I thought at first, but since I haven't played it I wasn't going to kick it in the nuts like that.
