I have run a purchased copy of Silent Hunter III complete with Starforce since the game was released, without any problems. When is it supposed to destroy my life?

Euro versions of Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2 and X2: The threat both feature Starforce.

It's not about destroying your life. It's about software companies assuming everyone's a pirate/thief/immoral fucker. So they've decided to install stuff without your permission. You can decide if they deserve your money or not. There isn't a single piece of software, for me, that is worth the money if they are going to put this shit on it.

Eventually my only option will be console games and the computer will be delegated to video. Weeeee.

The problem I had with Starforce and X2 was that it absolutely would not recognize my cd-rom drive forcing me to use a crack to play the game I bought.  YMMV.

StarForce destroyed my Guild Wars, WoW and Steam all in one fell swoop. Do you know how long it took me to update all 3 of those again on "high-speed" that's only 2X faster than dial up? REALLY FUCKING LONG.

Note: I now have very very fast high speed, so solly if I beat someone to that line of wisdom.

My favorite experience with these anti-copy programs was with installing a game (can't remember which one) that came with Sony's version of safe-disk or whatever they called it. I had to CD drives in the PC at the time. It absolutely refused to install on one them - the Sony CDRW.

Deserts Rats vs Afrika Korps has Starforce. Or at least the package said it did so I didn't install it.

That's my biggest issue. Most companies don't plaster Starforce on the package. If they would at the VERY LEAST say that it has protection software that installs itself.

Even a skull and crossbones would do. Anything. But not saying it should be fucking illegal. Period.

What sucks is that I have starforce on my computer thanks to Freedom Force and the Third Reich.

I don't see what's so difficult about removing it though, since I used the device manager and well, removed it.

Worse is when they add it in a patch. X2 did this. Sure you can play the game without Starforce, it'll just have bugs, and mods and scripts won't work for it.

Here's what they put on the box, in tiny tiny font on the back underneath System Requirements:

"this game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some CD-RW, DVD-ROM, and virtual drives"

That's a bit understating the possible effects of this thing.
