Frizzled Cat Recovering From Jolt, Fire, Fall (http://www.wftv.com/family/4873692/detail.html)

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. -- A cat in Nevada is recovering from a foray atop a power pole that left it jolted, frizzled and dazed -- and with a little less fur.

Firefighters believe the cat touched a relay switch on the 25,000-volt line while checking out a bird's nest. It fell from the 40-foot pole and sparked a fire outside a firehouse.

Firefighters found the singed cat near the base of the pole. They assumed it was dead, until they noticed it was breathing. They put it on a blanket and gave it oxygen.

It turns out the burns weren't as serious as they looked. One of the firefighters said "the fire just burned all his hair off." The cat's expected to make a full recovery, and will be put up for adoption if no one claims it.

If I was in the area, I would adopt that cat in a minute. What a trooper!

Of course, if I lived in Nevada, I would be too busy gambling and whoring around to take care of an animal, so it is probably just as well.

Kitten recovering from surgery to remove arrow (http://www.wfts.com/stories/2005/08/050818kitten.shtml)

an ABC Action News report 08/18/05

LARGO - A kitten recovering in Largo has used up at least one of its nine lives after being shot with an arrow.

"Cupid this ain't. This is one of the things that saddens you so much when you see something like this. This isn't an accident. Somebody had to do this on purpose," complained Rick Chaboudy of the Humane Society.

With every tiny heartbeat, the arrow quivered in the chest of the black and white kitten Thursday morning. X-rays revealed that the arrow was buried well into the kitten's body, from its shoulder to abdomen.

The unfortunate kitten was spotted in the pre-dawn hours by Kathy Towers, who sets out a plate of food for stray cats at her Tarpon Springs business every day.

"I didn't know what it was. That's why I came out and really looked for it. I saw it go across the parking lot with this yellow sticking out of the side of it," she recalled. "I was sick that somebody could do that to a kitten. I just don't understand how they could do that."

Late Thursday afternoon, word came that the surgery to remove the arrow was a success. Kathy said she hoped to adopt the kitten, named 'Archer' by the veterinary staff at Tampa Bay's Vet Specialist Inc., and help nurse it back to health.

The arrow, meanwhile, was being analyzed in a police forensics lab.

"It's a felony, a very serious crime. We'll investigate it," the responding deputy insisted.

Today a staffer turned 60, threw her a party. There was a mylar balloon that sang a few bars of McFerrin's "Don't Worry" if you hit it, the ribbon was tied to a clip. I clipped it on the library cat's collar and hit it.

Imagine a cat running around the library with Bobby McFerrin's voice chasing it around.

The cat finally broke free of it and hasn't been seen since.

That cat will come and kill you in your sleep. I would not rest until I had my vengeance if that happened to me- that song makes me react like Haemish to sb.exe.
