Title: Canada's long national nightmare is almost over. Post by: Shockeye on August 17, 2005, 02:24:21 PM Quote from: CBC Sports Curling may return to CBC (http://www.cbc.ca/story/sports/national/2005/08/17/Sports/curling_cbc_2005_08_17.html) WebPosted Wed, 17 Aug 2005 10:49:22 EDT CBC Sports The Canadian Curling Association will try to make peace with the CBC and bring curling back to the television network for the 2005-2006 season, a source has told the Globe and Mail. Curling may return to CBC The association had been in talks with TSN, but the sports network said it had no interest in taking over as the curling broadcaster as long as a lawsuit by the CBC loomed. The CBC threatened to sue the CCA over the association's decision to terminate its four-year deal with the public network after only one year. The CCA argued that the CBC breached the agreement by failing to provide adequate coverage. CBC and TSN used to share coverage of curling, but when the CCA insisted on one broadcaster during contract negotiations, CBC won out over TSN because it offered increased live coverage - albeit on the digital channel Country Canada. Fans enjoyed live coverage of afternoon draws on CBC, yet many were infuriated about having to subscribe to Country Canada to tune in evening draws. After TSN terminated the agreement, the CBC has insisted it be paid $300,000 for helping provide a host broadcast of the men's world championships in Victoria in April 2005. The CBC and CCA now need to resolve the $300,000 payment issue and arrange a broadcast schedule that is acceptable to curling sponsors and fans. What is scary is that there are professional bowling players out there. I mean, boredom in a ball. Title: Re: Canada's long national nightmare is almost over. Post by: Yegolev on August 17, 2005, 04:19:07 PM I prefer bowling over baseball. At least bowling has a chance of wrapping up before I get bored out of my mind.
