Title: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: schild on August 11, 2005, 11:20:19 PM So, This sorta took me by surprise (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/night_watch/large.html).
As a rule of thumb, I stay the hell away from Russian movies - they aren't art, they're just shit. For every one good one, there's about 5,000 bad ones. Seriously. Terrible. But this Night Watch looks hella cool. The trailer even has some genuinely scary horror moments in it - ...that were obviously inspired by the last 8 years of Japanese cinema. Anyway, yea, I look forward to it. Other stuff I'm looking forward to for the last 4 months of the year: Lord of War (http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/lord_of_war/large.html) - Nick Cage plays Nick Cage selling guns. Good stuff. The opening part of the trailer is just brilliant. Fun w/ Dick and Jane (http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/funwithdickandjane/) - A remotely interesting Jim Carrey comedy. He's very hit or miss for me. I liked Cable Guy, Ace Ventura 1 and The Truman Show. I'll probably like this...I hope. Saw II (http://www.apple.com/trailers/lions_gate/saw_2/large.html) - Yes plz. Coming out on Halloween? This is a fine replacement for the schlocky 80s sequels we've been getting (Nightmare, F13 [...yea], Halloween, Scream etc.) Roll Bounce (http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/roll_bounce/teaser_large.html) - The best soundtrack I've seen for a movie teen drama for black folk genre. Many bonus points for Charlie Murphy as the obvious older freak who imparts wisdom on the young hood. I will see it. And not tell anyone. Also ++ for the headphones. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: schild on August 11, 2005, 11:32:56 PM Also, I meant to mention it before, there's a trailer floating around for a movie called "Don't Come Knocking" from Wim Wenders. If you enjoyed Paris, Texas - this looks like the spiritual sequel. Has Tim Roth. He's one of the few actors in my book who can do no wrong. The Musketeer never existed.
Also, if you haven't seen it - see The Legend of 1900. Tim Roth could be the Joker (yay, crossthread references). Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: schild on August 11, 2005, 11:38:41 PM More terrible fun:
Rightclick and Save As (http://ffmovies.ign.com/filmforce/video/article/636/636398/doom_trailer_072505_qthighwide.mov): Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: Llava on August 12, 2005, 12:19:23 AM I applied to work on the Night Watch game some months back (would've been fun- it was developed in Russian, of course, and they had it translated, but in the Russian version of Engrish, so they wanted to hire a native speaker to clean it up). Didn't get it, unfortunately. It does seem like a cool concept. Reminds me a bit too much of "X" (http://imdb.com/title/tt0184041/) though.
The trailer does look pretty cool. The first part freaked me out, but otherwise it looks more like an action flick. Steve Carrell gets his own movie:
The 40 Year Old Virgin (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/the_40_year_old_virgin.html) Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: MrHat on August 12, 2005, 06:56:04 AM Good trailers Schild.
Except for Roll Bounce. It has Bow Wow in it. He used to be Lil' Bow Wow, but he got older, so he dropped the Lil'. Night watch is hot, but we've been talking about that one for a whiles. Fun w/ Dick and Jane looks like a cheerier version of Mr.&Mrs. Smith. Lord of War is new to me. Looks fun though. Edit: I don't remember ever being able to do flying jumpkicks in Doom. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: Murgos on August 12, 2005, 07:30:58 AM Good trailers Schild. Except for Roll Bounce. It has Bow Wow in it. He used to be Lil' Bow Wow, but he got older, so he dropped the Lil'. I was in a mall that Lil' Bow Wow went shopping at. It was surreal, you could watch the news spread from group of disaffected black youths to group of disaffected black youths and then they suddenly all broke out into a run towards that end of the mall, screaming. I left that mall and never went back. It was in the last stages of mall death anyway, even J.C. Penny's has closed up and left. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: Yegolev on August 12, 2005, 07:34:14 AM Might as well add this too. Steve Carrell gets his own movie: The 40 Year Old Virgin (http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/the_40_year_old_virgin.html) The wife and I are fans of previous work. Hopefully he can ride this vehicle and replace that damn Adam Sandler in the pantheon. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: HaemishM on August 12, 2005, 09:06:13 AM 40-Year Old Virgin looks hilarious. Night Watch looks like the Robot Jesus AntiChrist of atmospheric horror action movies. I eagerly await not being able to see that at a theater in my area because the theater managers are prudish douchebags with indy films. I'm trying to download the Doom Trailer, but getting no luv.
EDIT: Lord of War looks a lot better than I thought it would be from your description. Nic Cage has bugged me since Windtalkers. But this looks fantastic, like Blow except with guns instead of Coke. EDIT2: Doom. Wow, what a startlingly bad-looking piece of shit. Was Uwe Boll sick the week they picked directors for this one? Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: ahoythematey on August 12, 2005, 09:37:17 AM Legend of 1900 is awesome. Slowest movie ever to totally captivate me till the end credits. Proof that a dramatic movie with little-to-no action can take place entirely on a ship and not be mediocre at best(I'm looking at you Titanic).

Now talk in this one. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: schild on August 12, 2005, 10:31:33 AM EDIT: Lord of War looks a lot better than I thought it would be from your description. Obviously, badly. :-D Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: ahoythematey on August 12, 2005, 10:34:48 AM Weather Man is out?
Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: schild on August 12, 2005, 11:11:50 AM Weather Man is out? I haven't seen it, but it's in his comfort zome. I thought it came out last month. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: stray on August 12, 2005, 11:52:49 AM (http://www.the-hud.com/cage/peter2.jpg)
Best Cage movie to date! Adaptation was a hint at the old Cage though...And as long as he doesn't divert from his old ways again (and make another Con-Air), then I'm fine. Do you want to suck my tongue? Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: WindupAtheist on August 15, 2005, 08:18:59 AM On a cinematic note completely unrelated to anything: When the fuck is Luc Besson going to stop wasting his time producing shitty Jet Li movies and fucking direct something?
Oh yeah, he's directing an animated Smurfs-wannabe starring the voice of, among others, Snoop Dogg and Madonna (http://imdb.com/title/tt0344854/). Meanwhile it's been ages since Natalie Portman told an interviewer what a great script she'd read for a sequel to The Professional, and how she couldn't wait to do it, yet still not a peep of any such thing actually going forward. Give me more Fifth Element. Even if the story blows chunks, just looking at it will have to be more fun than The Transporter 2. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: Velorath on August 17, 2005, 05:34:32 PM Aeon Flux trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/aeon_flux/large.html) is up now. Doesn't really seem much like the cartoon, not that I was ever really a big fan anyway. Could end up being ok, but a lot of the action looks like something out of the Matrix, and a lot of the scenery looks like it came from The Phantom Menace.
Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: stray on August 17, 2005, 05:45:52 PM /shrug
I don't know. The only other feature that the director has done is Girlfight (pretty good movie), but Aeon Flux doesn't resemble it in any way. For some inexplicable reason I can't help but think of Chronicles of Riddick when I watch that trailer. Not that I care if it turns out that bad, but it'd be nice if it didn't. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: Abagadro on August 17, 2005, 08:34:45 PM Saw the Aeon trailer on the big screen today. Looked pretty cool. As with most sci-fi movies, could go either way between awesome and suck.
It was in front of Four Brothers which I actually liked quite a lot and if you are into 70s B-picture type movies, I would recommend it. The trailer was interesting. Reviews are split pretty evenly on it. I will probably check it out on DVD. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: Abagadro on August 18, 2005, 11:39:24 AM Quote Reviews are split pretty evenly on it. Ya, it is sort of a "like the vibe" or not type of movie. Good action, predictable plot. Definitely not high drama but some cool stuff and good characters. Andre 3000 is pretty good in it for his first big role. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: stray on August 18, 2005, 11:47:55 AM Andre and Wahlberg both are a couple of perpetrators.
Wahlberg pisses me off more though --- Kind of like how Tom Cruise pisses me off. By that I mean: I want to hate him, but then when I watch his films, I turn out to be pleasantly surprised...Or at the very least, entertained. So I think I'll pass. I don't want to see a good (or even decent film). I'd rather keep the hate. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: Llava on August 18, 2005, 12:13:13 PM (http://www.democratandchronicle.com/goesout/mov/p/planet.jpg)
Die Wahlberg. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: WayAbvPar on August 18, 2005, 12:23:44 PM Blame Tim Burton for that pile of monkey shit.
Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: Viin on August 18, 2005, 08:08:54 PM Aeon Flux: How many MTV movies have been good? Right.
Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: Johny Cee on August 18, 2005, 09:21:47 PM Hmmm....
Transporter 2 looks like entertaining action schlock. It pisses me off that sometime after 1993 Hollywood lost the formula for making diverting action movies. Since then, only a few have been anything but terrible. The Bournes, Rundown, Equilibrium to some extent. The first Transporter was fun if you make sure to not pay attention to the plot that disappears in the last 20 minutes of the movie. The Brothers Grimm looks interesting, but some of the feedback on the Fat Man's site seems to be pretty negative. Domino might be fun.... I let my inner movie snob go to sleep between March and September. Title: Re: Night Watch & Other Trailers Post by: Margalis on August 18, 2005, 10:34:20 PM The Transporter wins my award for worst soundtrack in any movie, ever.
