Who the hell keeps breaking Netflix DVDs and not reporting them? I received two broken DVDs in a row this week (someone must hate Tom Cruise in Minority Report more than I do and I wasn't even able to see it yet).

Prior to this I've probably watched maybe 75 DVDs and only one out of all those was sent broken (I think it was iRobot).

These two latest breaks have the same pattern which is a crack going out from the center to one side. Probably caused when the last person that watched it tried to get it out of their DVD player. Faulty DVD players or stupid people?

How many broken DVDs from Netflix have you received?

And lastly shouldn't these things have error correction? I mean so what if the DVD is cracked.. it should still play but it doesn't. It's probably the encryption gets fucked up if the DVD isn't whole or some shit. Score one for DRM. Think HD-DVD or Blu-Ray will have error correction if the DVD is half broken? Fat chance. That is where they should be spending their R&D money and not on more stupid DRM.

I've watched 70 or so dvds from Netflix. Two were broken. 1/35 ain't bad when I know 99% of the people out there don't keep their media as fresh and clean as mine.

I've never received a DVD that was broken or cracked. I've gotten a few that were pretty scratched up and one that my DVD player just wouldn't recognize. I was pretty pissed when I got a Firefly DVD that had some seriously pixellated parts in it where the player couldn't read it.

Worst thing was expecting to get a Cowboy Bebop DVD and got some other horrid anime thing. Watched 2 minutes before I turned it off.

Aren't they all horrible?

Let's not ignore the ignoble postal worker in our anger.  Where I live, the mail handlers are the people who couldn't deal with the intellectual rigors of Taco Bell.

In the 3 or so years I've had Netflix, I've probably gotten 2 or 3 broken discs, and maybe one other one that didn't work. I'd look at your mail person before I'd turn the stinkeye to Netflix. My dad was a mailman for almost 20 years, a postmaster for 3 of that. His tales of the people that work at the post office are hilarious and scary all at the same time.

They just brought the Cheesy Gordita Crunch back.

I've had one cracked disk with the Candian version - zip.ca.  Put a little check in the broken - replace box, and they sent me a new copy immediately.

It's hardly the fault of DRM if you're trying to play a cracked disk.  That's going to fuck with the laser's read--even if the player is able to figure out what the hell you inserted, it's going to have a fit every time it hits that crack (how bad a fit depends on where in a block of frames the crack occurs.)

I would rather eat a cracked Netflix DVD than anything from Taco Bell. /shudder

They never left at the Taco Bell near my work, they just weren't listed on the menu.

We always had them out in Maryland also. But the first thing I've eaten from Taco Bell in the last 5 years (Yes, I went without it all the way through college until a year later) was one of those flat wrapped grilled things. Whatever it is, their new thing. One of my friends was going by taco bell and I figured - what the hell, why not. Won't kill me. Turns out it did kill me. I made this post using a Das Keyboard from beyond the grave.

Thanks for the warning, schild.  I don't eat at Taco Bell either, but that thing looked pretty good.  I was considering giving it a shot.

Was it that crunchwrap supreme, or whatever the fuck those things are?  I tried one and it just tasted like a crunchy shell filled with sour cream.  Ended up throwing most of it away.

I wish Taco Bell would either bring back their Fajita Wraps or sell their Fajita Wrap sauce in stores. It was heavenly.

Me too.  It was during my starving student days.  I had a big pile of coupons that allowed me to survive on Taco Bell food for less than a dollar each day.

I haven't been back to Taco Bell since the coupons run out.  The thought of their food makes me feel vaguely nauseous now.

Well, except for those quesadilla-taco hybrid things they're pushing now.  I find the concept intriguing if not necessarily appetizing.

Haha. Really? I'm in Texas, and I haven't seen that....Err...Not that I've been in one lately.

As far as Mexican fast food chains go, El Pollo Loco is much better. If you guys have one (I'm not sure who does outside Cali, Arizona, and Texas), then go there instead. It's all chicken, but better nonetheless (funny that it's mainly in the three states that already have their share of good Mexican restuarants though).

Taco Cabana isn't necessarily too bad either (not sure what other states have that).

El Pollo Loco rules (especially the rice/chicken bowl or whatever the hell it is). I ate there a lot when I was working in Los Angeles a few years ago- got a $35 a day per diem (in cash); by eating a few meals at EPL and In N Out, I made a tidy little stipend to fund my weekend drinking binges. Ahhh, the good ol' days.

Seems like 1/10 have massive scratches for me. I end up washing quite a few and buffing quite a bit.

Only had 2 unplayable ones in past year. Never had a broken one. They are very good about sending replacements out quick.

I've converted from Taco Bell to Baja Fresh.

Baja Fresh is an entirely different animal from Taco Bell.  It's like comparing McDonald's with Mel's Diner/Steak 'n Shake/Fuddruckers (depending on your locale).

Ya dude, Chipotle Carnita's Burrito with Guac is heaven.

Although, the all time most amazing pseudo-mexican food I've ever had (and ever will have) is a chicken queso burrito from Qdoba.  That place is my own little slice of heaven.

But I still get a craving for shitty bean burritos from Taco Bell and a giant Mountain Dew.

When I was in So. Cal. the Carne Asada Burrito con Crema y Guaca from Alberto's was teh heaven.  Stupid little red and yellow buildings all over the place they go by various names (Albertito's, Roberto's, Robertito's etc...) but they were all identical.

Taco Bell is decent and cheap. Emphasis on cheap. They don't make it as well as they did when I was a kid, back when the tacos used to be hot and the actual taco shells were apparently not even goat-worthy. This new human-worthy taco shell they are using isn't nearly as tasty. I guess that means I have the palate of a farm animal, though.

Their "special" type foods lately have been better than their regular stuff. Things like the Cheesy Gordita Crunch, the Chicken Quesadilla and the Gordiata/Chalupa. No, it ain't real Mexican food, but what do you expect for less than $5?
