Lots of nifty info into current thoughts about the development differences between men & women and the role testosterone plays.  Also, some insight into why men are better at spatial relationships while women are more big-picture and have a (typicaly) higher vocabulary.  Nifty stuff.

I don't understand how, after knowing me for over ten years, she doen't seem to understand that I do not know what I did.  If I knew what I did to cause The Yelling, I would not have done that in the first place.  RAGE AGAINST THE LOGIC-BLOCK!

Hm... and people with Asperger's Syndrome (a mild form of autism) are known to do better than average in technical jobs - there's a theory that Asperger's is actually becoming a more common trait in some areas, like Silicon Valley, because people with it have better chances of snaring high-paying jobs, making it genetically advantageous.

So if being male is another form of mild autism...

Don't confuse fiscally advantageous with genetically advantageous. It doesn't matter how much you make if you can't look the girl in the eye long enough to ask her out.

The fact that the Asperger population keeps increasing in those areas would seem to indicate they aren't having any trouble reproducing.   :wink:

Is it perhaps that autistic geeks are, now stay with me on this, MOVING there? For jobs, perhaps?  :wink: (I didn't mean for that to sound as snotty as it does, but fuck it. I'm leaving it.)

I don't know anything about Asperger's so forgive me if this is an ignorant question: Could it be environmental rather than genetic? Or maybe PG&E is spitting out a new batch of super chemicals nearby?

Actually, the rising Asperger population is a result of a higher percentage of kids with Asperger's being born to Asperger parents - so yes, the geeks originally moved in to find jobs, but now they're all settling down and having kids, so the geek population is exploding without any immigration at this point.  Some people are really freaking out about this because in some cases you'll see two people with Asperger's get married and produce kids that have it even stronger.

I for one welcome our new uber-geek overlords.

My money's on them meeting at work, actually.  It seems like a good number of geek couples form that way.

Much more likley that there are more Asperger's patients right now because there are more doctors who have realized they can make a fuckton of money diagnosing people as Asberger's patients and more drug companies realizing the same.
